Although I consider myself a feminist, nothing destroys the credibility of a podcast more than giggling hosts and guests, especially if the discussion is not inherently funny. Laughter is something else. Aside from that, this was a really good discussion of Thucydides and his great work. Thucydides was heir to a very wealthy family in Thrace whose wealth came from gold mines in Thrace. This is why he was able to spend all his time on his life’s work. That said, it is absurd to think that “The History of the Peloponnesian War” was written by Thucydides daughter. On the other hand, she could certainly have been a scribe who helped him keep track of interviews or his own thoughts. Notes in ancient Greece were not kept on papyrus or parchment rolls but on wax tablets and then transcribed to the more permanent medium. In ancient Greece, women were excluded from all civic life, and indeed all public life in general. This is a simple fact and in no way implies that Thucydides cut them out! Wh
