Alex Blumberg sits down with the stars of the Homecoming  TV show-- Julia Roberts and Stephan James, and director Sam Esmail-- to talk about how they came to the project and what it was like to film it.This is the final part of a four-part mini-series on the making of the Homecoming TV show.
Being in charge of a big-budget TV production means having to make decisions. It's a new kind of power for Micah and Eli, and one that's sometimes uncomfortable to exercise. The words they write have real-world, three-dimensional-- and sometimes winged-- consequences. This is the third part of a four-part mini-series on the making of the Homecoming TV show.
Micah and Eli get to work, writing the scripts for the Homecoming TV show. But taking something meant only for the ear, and turning it into something for the eye... proves to be deceptively challenging. Plus, Alex visits the set of the show, to meet the small army of people actually building the visual world of Homecoming. This is the second part of a four-part mini-series on the making of the Homecoming TV show, which airs November 4th.
Two years ago, Gimlet launched its first fiction podcast: Homecoming. Now, this November, a television series based on the hit podcast and starring Julia Roberts is launching.  Alex Blumberg went behind the scenes as Homecoming went from podcast to TV production. In this first episode, Homecoming creators Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg recount the journey, from concept to podcast to pitching the show to bigtime Hollywood producers. And we hear from some of the celebrities they met along the way. This is the first part of a four-part mini-series on the making of the Homecoming TV show.
A macabre urban legend of love, betrayal, weed, gentrification, cannibalism, and survival of the fittest. Our newest scripted fiction podcast The Horror of Dolores Roach stars Daphne Rubin-Vega and Bobby Cannavale. Written by Aaron Mark. IMPOSSIBLE for me to listen to this guy smacking on his food in my ear. Hope this episode isn't important.

I am sad that the ads take about 6 min out of each episode but it's still worth it!🤔😣❤

Should I listen to this podcast or watch the TV show first? Has anyone done both and have an opinion?

I struggled to get through Homecoming. If it wasn't for the excellent acting I would have moved on. Not a good or engaging podcast in my opinion but maybe it would port to TV.

The first season is excellent audio storytelling of highest caliber. The second season seems like a freshman college project at best. The first season of Homecoming is phenomenal and I'd recommend it to anyone, if the overall experience wouldn't be so dissatisfying ultimately. The decline in the quality of writing from S01 to S02 is unprecedented - I almost can't believe it's the same two authors. It feels like they really crafted the first season, but had no plan for a second season at all, coming up with content in a rush. Even the great cast can't make up the bad writing of the second season - some roles are definitely miscast as well (Spike Jonze as the CEO of the mighty Gheist corporation sounds like a snotty college kid) I had a hard time finishing it because the story just becomes unbearably ridiculous ( the whole Anthony storyline? Walter's mother somehow getting her hands on top secret tapes and editing them into a fake voice mail?)

Really enjoyable! The sound design was incredible and all of the characters were really well developed. Great pacing, too. The end was a little anticlimactic. Everything tied up a little too neatly and we never saw what happened to that rat bastard Colin. Looking forward to more of this! It's like a return to story hour in the radio in the olden days.
