On Death, Dying, and Future Hope   Lesson 1:  Rebellion in a Perfect Universe  Outlined by: Pastor Abraham M. del Rosario, DMin   Memory Verse: “‘How have you fallen from heaven, you star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who defeated the nations’” (Isa. 14:12, NASB).  God is love. Out of this love, He created a universe, full of harmony, peace, joy, and more love. The law of love was mispresented as a restriction of freedom.  The result was war in heaven (Rev. 12:7).   Origin of Sin.  Sin is “the mystery of iniquity” at work (2 Thess. 2:7), and the other side is “the mystery of godliness (1 Tim. 3:16). The origin and nature of sin are mysteries that no one can fully explain.  Lucifer’s pride was defeated by the humility of Jesus (Phil.2:6-11).  Choice  God is love (1 John 4:7-11,16)  He shares and expresses by creating angels (Lucifer) and human beings. He sends His son to die for our sins  The Fall of Lucifer (Eze. 28:15)  Ezekiel describes broader and cosmic realities  Ezekiel 28:1-10 – Tyre ancient Phoenician city claimed to be god and the throne of god. Ezekiel 28:12-19 – Lucifer was created perfect, possessed free will, misused his free will, and lost his thankfulness.  The Fall of Adam and Eve  The fall of Adam and Eve brought sin, evil, and death.   Challenge (Isa.14:12-15)   Two themes:  God’s Kingdom: Salem, Mount Zion, Jerusalem, and New Jerusalem Satan’s domain: Babel and Babylon  God’s people are called out of end-time Babylon (Rev. 18:4) to abide with Him eventually on Mount Zion and the New Jerusalem (Rev. 14:1, Rev. 21:1-3,10).  Babylon is a symbol of pride and arrogance. The King of Tyre and Babylon became a symbol of Lucifer.  Controversy (Rev. 12)  Began in heaven Culminated at cross Continues in the end-time remnant  Lucifer is called: the dragon, the serpent of old, The Devil and Satan, and the accuser our brethren (Rev.12:9,10).  Christ referred to as “Michael (Rev. 12:7) which means “who is like God.”  Ezekiel 28:15 – “wickedness” (NIV) or “iniquity” (NKJV).   The Hebrew term is àvelah, meaning “injustice” or “unrighteousness.”  The term “trade” (Eze. 28:16, NKJV) rakal, signifying “go about” or “go from one another” either for (1) trade or (2) gossip/slander.  Lucifer was going around and gossiping about God, accusing Him of injustice, gossiping about His Character, and spreading lies.   Lucifer Five Big I (Self-centered and self-exaltation, Eze. 28:17)  “I will ascend to heavens” “I will raise my throne above” “I will sit enthroned . . . on the utmost heights” “I will ascend above the tops of the clouds” “I will make myself like the Most High” (Isa. 14:13,14).   Lesson: Jesus, who was born a fragile human, defeated Satan through His purity, obedience, and total surrender to the Father.
