Description

Some terrorists use weapons. Some use information. The scariest use hostages. Every Thursday, Hostage tells electrifying crime stories culminating in intense, life-or-death negotiations. Within the stories, we examine tactics used by the FBI’s crisis negotiation unit, world governments, and even hostage’s parents, highlighting the techniques that saved lives, and the moments where everything went tragically wrong. Hostage is a production of Cutler Media, and part of the Parcast Network. New episodes release on Thursdays.

While the written narrative may be enthralling the reading is unemotional. Infomercial style voices are distant from the characters and story. You could put any script in front of these two and it would sound exactly the same whether true crime or a babys r us commercial... This could be great but for the emotionless reading. I listened to the first 4, then could take no more. too plastic.

The warning at the start of this episode is the standard "this episode contains..." and mentions that "it may be disturbing to some listeners"...in my humble opinion, EVERYONE will be disturbed by details in this episode and the warning should be far more severe, something like: "if you have children, know children, have heard of children or were a child, this episode may sicken you". I don't think the details should be censored, just that the opening warning be less generic, with a stronger trigger warning for the child sexual abuse.

I just met Gracia burnham at my family church where they attended a few times 20 years ago. new tribes Bible institute (ethnos 360) is located in Jackson Michigan. she is a wonderful woman and hearing her story was intense and heartbreaking. 2nd episode.

thought I would really enjoy this but no, I can't get over that network style narration, total turn off for me. call me old fashioned but I prefer my true crime podcasts as conversations between hosts. I hate this super polished professional vibe, sounds too clinical and emotionless...give me true crime garage or gen why any day. .

Jaymes Moynihan I Love this style myself!! I have a hard time listening when it is a few people talking and they cut eachother off or talk over each other. I prefer it more organized this way. I almost decided not to listen because of your comment but I am so glad I did listen because I am REALLY enjoying it!!
