Description

Join us as we cover some of our favorite shows, like The Mandalorian, Handmaid's Tale, Westworld, and Game of Thrones. We're fans, and we aim to enhance your experience. Currently on deck: Cobra Kai

Need a change of pace? Cobra Kai is fun, funny, and light-hearted, with a lot of kick-ass karate, but it's also heartfelt, and while reverent to the classic Karate Kid series it follows, it also cleverly remixes and recontextualizes themes and situations from those movies.

P.S. You can be a part of the discussion: Send us a text or voice message at waxonwaxoff@podcastica.com or comment at facebook.com/housepodcastica and we'll respond on the air.

Wow. WOW! What an incredibly intense finale. Dark? Yes. Cathartic? We thought so. We had such a great time podcasting about Handmaid’s Tale this season - because of the high quality of the show, and because of all the fantastic engagement with you guys! Thanks for being a part of it all with us, and we’ll see you for season 5. Next on House Podcastica: Our next series will be the upcoming Disney+ show, What If? Which explores how the MCU would be altered if certain events had occurred differently, like if Loki wielded Thor's hammer. It’s an animated show, beautifully done by the looks of the teaser trailer, and features Westworld’s Geoffrey Wright as The Watcher (kind of this show’s Rod Serling) and a bunch of the Marvel move actors like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sam Jackson, Michael B. Jordan, Jeff Goldblum, Karen Gillan, Josh Brolin, and a bunch more. Looks like even Chadwick Boseman did one before he passed away. So, if you’re watching that, we’ll be there to help you geek out on it :) It comes out in August so we might cover a movie or two in the meantime. More unexpected, crazy events this week, like June reuniting with Nick, the return of Esther, and f%#ng Fred getting a reprieve, among other things. So fascinating to see how June’s presence in Canada impacts the people around her — Luke, Fred & Serena, Emily and the women of the support group. Even with June safely out of Gilead, the show is as captivating — and troubling — as ever, with no easy answers, but lots to talk about. Another intense, incredible, unpredictable episode this week. At times way darker than we realized it would be once June got to Canada (but we should have known, right?), and of course there was that immensely satisfying scene we’ve all been waiting for. The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 is coming soon, and we’re excited to be podcasting about it. We think this show is important, amazing, and highly disturbing, and that it’s incredibly well-crafted, written, and acted. This episode I brought on three of my closest, oldest, most super friends — Dan, Rich, and Eric — to talk about the recently released 4-hour marathon of a movie: Zack Snyder’s Justice League. You can find that on HBO Max if you’re interested in checking it out first. And we’ll be back in about a month to get everyone caught up on Handmaid’s Tale just in time for season 4. Westworld (1973)

Westworld (1973)

2021-02-0801:25:19

After having covered each and every episode of HBO’s Westworld, David and I finally went back to the source material, Michael Crichton’s original 1973 sci-fi Western thriller. Both David and I saw this movie and were scared by it as kids, and I hadn’t seen it since, so I was curious to see how it would hold up. And I thought it was great! Well worth watching, especially if you enjoy the HBO show. We are most likely going to be back in a couple weeks to talk about the new documentary, More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story, so we’ll see you then. Holy crap, what a great couple of episodes to cap off an awesome season! So many great moments. There are a lot of shows and movies capitalizing on our nostalgia these days, but for our money, Cobra Kai is doing it best. Hope you guys enjoyed this season as much as we did :) I’m not sure what we’ll be covering next on this podcast (aside from the 1973 Westworld movie next week), but we’ll be back sooner or later, so stay subscribed and we’ll speak to you soon. Johnny and Daniel are back being senseis again in these couple of episodes, and all the kids, wives, and girlfriends are onboard. Another great couple of episodes: Kreese’s formative experience in Vietnam, Johnny figuring out the whole Facebook thing, and Daniel facing off with another longtime rival, Chozen. Live or die, man?! HONK!!! This week we’re joined by special guest Ben Beck, who you can find at The Next Level Podcast Network at nextlevelradioonline.com ( http://nextlevelradioonline.com ) and also on Strange Indeed talking with Rima about CBS All Access’ adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. Cobra Kai starts off a little heavier than usual, but what do you expect after a school-wide karate war between Daniel and Johnny’s students puts one of them in a coma! Still, we found a lot to laugh about, and we always love the way this show treads that fine line between being fun and having a lot of heart. Welcome back to Cobra Kai coverage with Rima, Rich, and Jason! We’re stoked to be back podcasting on this show and we appreciate you guys joining us. We’re continuing on doing two episodes a week, and we won’t be watching ahead, so feel free to hang back and watch it along with us, or binge ahead and then laugh at all our theories and predictions :) Support: patreon.com/jasoncabassi ( http://patreon.com/jasoncabassi ) Subscribe: housepodcastica.com ( http://housepodcastica.com ) Email: waxonwaxoff@podcastica.com Facebook: facebook.com/housepodcastica ( http://facebook.com/housepodcastica ) Other shows: podcastica.com ( http://podcastica.com ) & talkingdeadpodcast.com ( http://talkingdeadpodcast.com ) Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/house-podcastica-cobra-kai-edition/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
What can we say, here’s an enthusiastic toast to John Favreau, Dave Filoni, and the entire cast and crew of The Mandalorian for a fantastic season and an especially incredible episode of television that thrilled us, made us tear up, and reaffirmed our love for Star Wars. It was THAT good. Hope you enjoy our take on it, and thank you for all your feedback, and for just for hanging with us and listening to the podcast throughout this series! We’re grateful you’re along for the ride :) Have a happy safe holiday, and don’t forget Richard, Rima, and I will be back in a few weeks for Cobra Kai season 3! If you haven’t tried this series yet, and you want to smile, we definitely recommend you give it a shot. It’s on Netflix. Wax on, wax off! Agreeded with everyone comments. However, Kristen's comments on the female representation really resonated with me and was dead on. Thanks for presenting that point. The writing certainly fell short this season. The actors did absolutely the best they could.
