THE PORTAL - Adele Casales Rocha
Among literature that explores extraterrestrial encounters and paranormal experiences, this book shares stories from witnesses from all walks of life which include the little-explored area of the Philippines. In particular, the first half of the book delves into uncanny and terrifying experiences previously uncovered in other books about Asian countries, focusing on one family’s struggles with a haunted home and the tragedies that followed. Although an Asian country as it is centered in the Pacific, the Philippines was a Spanish colony for over 400 years and then was a Japanese-occupied territory. Due to this prolonged European influence, it is unique among Pacific destinations as a Eurasian culture. It is usually portrayed as an idyllic destination for both adventurers, hikers and beach-goers who are after an exotic tropical sojourn, however the Philippines had a violent past due to its involvement in World War II, and its oft-visited skies exude evidence of extra-terrestrial visitations. This book documents in stories the aftermath of violence on the victims who passed tragically and the malevolent spirits that visit on regions where violence had repeatedly occurred. It also documents the possibility of the existence of nature spirits and the notion that there are realities that surpass the imagination whose origins remain unexplored. It includes stories from other countries and their encounter with the unknown. A story or two lends credence to the possibility that our thoughts and intentions have the power to manifest in physical form. Whether beings and/or entities come from our own minds, within the planet, are from an alternate dimension or from within or outside the galaxy is a question for the reader to determine
NAPOLEON: A LIFE - ANDREW ROBERTS
The definitive biography of the great soldier-statesman by the acclaimed author of The Storm of War—winner of the LA Times Book prize, finalist for the Plutarch prize, winner of the Fondation Napoleon prize and a New York Times bestseller“A thrilling tale of military and political genius… Roberts is an uncommonly gifted writer.” – The Washington PostAusterlitz, Borodino, Waterloo: his battles are among the greatest in history, but Napoleon Bonaparte was far more than a military genius and astute leader of men. Like George Washington and his own hero Julius Caesar, he was one of the greatest soldier-statesmen of all times. Andrew Roberts’s Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon’s thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine. Like Churchill, he understood the strategic importance of telling his own story, and his memoirs, dictated from exile on St. Helena, became the single bestselling book of the nineteenth century. An award-winning historian, Roberts traveled to fifty-three of Napoleon’s sixty battle sites, discovered crucial new documents in archives, and even made the long trip by boat to St. Helena. He is as acute in his understanding of politics as he is of military history. Here at last is a biography worthy of its subject: magisterial, insightful, beautifully written, by one of our foremost historians.
JOAN MELLEN - BLOOD IN THE WATER
On June 8, 1967, the USS Liberty, an unarmed intelligence ship reporting to the Joint Chiefs of Staff under the auspices of the National Security Agency, was positioned in international waters off the coast of Egypt when it was attacked with deadly violence by unmarked jet planes firing rockets and machine guns and throwing napalm onto its deck. This ambush was followed by a torpedo strike that blew a forty-foot hole in the starboard side of the ship. Lacking the capacity to defend themselves, thirty-four sailors were killed and 174 wounded, many for life. By the end of the day, Israel had confessed to having been the aggressor, simultaneously arguing that the attack had been an "accident" and a "mistake."    The facts said otherwise. So intense and sustained was the attack - it lasted for nearly an hour and a half - so specific was the aiming for the antennae and satellite dish on deck, that it was scarcely credible that Israel's aggression was not deliberate; such was the view of Marshall Carter, the director of the National Security Agency, his deputy director Louis Tordella, and Richard Helms, the Director of Central Intelligence.    Based on interviews with more than forty survivors, knowledgeable political insiders, and Soviet archives of the period, investigative writer Joan Mellen presents evidence suggesting complicity between US and Israeli intelligence in the attack on Liberty and the more than fifty-year long cover-up. What were the underlying motives? Was this a false flag operation conducted in the midst of the Six-Day War? Was it conceivable that Israel would have initiated such an operation without a green light from the United States?    For the sake of justice, truth and the murdered and surviving sailors, this is a story demanding to be told.
