Hello wonderful people! If you've made it to episode 10 then wow congrats, if you're just chiming in now, then welcome. As I bring this season to a close I am so grateful for all the conversations this project has brought up. Turns out I am not the only one wanting to know how musicians are making it work!? I want to thank all the fabulous local bands and artists for sharing their experiences in the music industry and giving us the BTS of their musical journeys! On today's episode I was lucky enough to chat to my own band, Ned, Jas and Isaac! I decided to wing this episode a bit haha but we spoke their individual projects aswell as our recent tour and #bandlife. Hold tight, there shall be a season 2, there is still lots to talk about!! See you there. <3 Maia To connect head to How Do You Muse?
π•Žπ•–π•π•”π• π•žπ•– π•“π•’π•”π•œ! On today's episode we have a duo who have been making all kinds of moves lately, β€˜π–‰π–†π–“π–ˆπ–Š-π–—π–”π–ˆπ– π–†π–—π–ˆπ–π–Žπ–™π–Šπ–ˆπ–™π–˜β€™, RAAVE TAPES! I got to ask them all my nosy questions the day after they dropped their latest track last week, ✧ β€˜I JUST WANNA BE ALONE’ ✧ In this episode I ask Lindsay and Joab about the thriving Newcastle music scene and their long involvement with the community, I also find out how they got on the lineup for *Laneway* this year!Β  We talk about how hard their manager β€˜Coops’ hustles for them and what it’s like being teachers by term and musos by school holidays. I also hear about Joabs’ knack for social media and Lindsays book rec of the year, Allen Carr’s Easy Way To Stop Smoking. I thoroughly enjoyed this chat and found out lots of interesting BTS things!! ps. I am also now fully aware of what a π’©π‘œπ“‹π‘œπ’Έπ’Άπ“ˆπ“‰π“‡π’Ύπ’Άπ“ƒ is. Hello my friends! This week I have not only one of π•Šπ•ͺπ••π•Ÿπ•–π•ͺ𝕀 π•—π•šπ•Ÿπ•–π•€π•₯ π•™π•šπ•‘-𝕙𝕠𝕑 𝕒𝕣π•₯π•šπ•€π•₯𝕀 π•’π•Ÿπ•• 𝕑𝕣𝕠𝕕𝕦𝕔𝕖𝕣𝕀, YAWDOESITALL, but I was lucky enough to have his π––π–šπ–Šπ–Šπ–“ 𝖔𝖋 𝖆 π–’π–†π–“π–†π–Œπ–Šπ–— Shania Khoury on the poddy too!Β  A manager x artist relationship is a dynamic I’ve been wanting to chat to since HDYM was first in the works. The wonderful Devaura even joined in too for the vibes and made it all the more merrier. I could’ve made multiple blooper reels from this episode, lots of chaos but in the best way possible !!Β  Yaw & Shania share with me how they began working together, I ask Yaw all about his regional VIC tour with Baker Boy and what it was like coming to Aus from Ghana at the ripe age of 15. And then we all hyperventilate over the fact that Yaw has a track coming out tomorrow with icon RICK ROSS!! 𝑨𝒓𝒆 π’šπ’π’– π’Œπ’Šπ’…π’…π’Šπ’π’ˆ!? We’re back rolling! Today’s episode is with 𝕽&𝕭 π––π–šπ–Šπ–Šπ–“ Ruby Jackson πŸ‘‘ Ruby has to be one of the fastest growing acts in the Sydney/Eora scene, it hasn’t even been a year since her debut headline show and last month she opened for Ball Park Music as part of the Twilight at Taronga series and literally as this episode drops she is flying up to Brisbane/Meanjin to support UK electronic duo, Morcheeba, at ꧁☬The Tivoliβ˜¬κ§‚Β  I went to Rubys EP launch and it was honestly one of my most memorable gigs I went to last year -Β  So much love in the room, so many genuine fans, just such good energy【!】 In this episode we talk about her first BIGSOUND experience, how she found her manager, how and when she decides to bring out the 9-piece band and the fact that she’s a go-with-the-flow kind of artist!Β  This one was a joy to record :) To connect How Do You Muse?
Welcome back! Today we have 𝔦𝔫𝔫𝔒𝔯-𝔴𝔒𝔰𝔱 π”―π”¬π”Άπ”žπ”©π”±π”Ά Ross Tipper, the yes-man who founded Evening Records, who also fronts the band Pan-Pacific Grand Prix and rips lead guitar in Lady Lyon! I’ve only known Ross for the last 12 months but he has had such an impact on my life in that short time. I must admit, #ross does happen to also be my #boss but I’d heard of Evening Records long before we began working together and I’ve been wanting to sit down and pick his brain about it ever since! Ross is genuinely one of the most *supportive* people I know, not just to me but to all of his friends <3Β  In this episode we talk about the necessity of indie-run labels and convincing his besties Hayley and Helen to come on board. I also hear about the time he made 6 bucks on his first tour in Adelaide and I make my gen-z-ness apparent when asking him how on earth he promoted music before the days of social media!? Β  Oh and btw The Evening Records 4𝓽𝓱 𝓑𝓭π“ͺ𝔂 π“Ÿπ“ͺ𝓻𝓽𝔂 is coming up on March 9th at The Petersham Bowlo and I in no way backed down from using this as a hot opportunity to promo the show xxx see you thereΒ  To connect head to How Do You Muse?
Hello hello! Today we have πš–πš˜πšπšŽπš›πš— πšŒπš˜πš πš‹πš˜πš’, Euan Hart, on the poddy. It feels like this chat between Euan and I has been a long time coming as whenever we’ve found ourselves side by side with a beer in hand we get straight to the point. Euan is an undeniably good song-writer, his voice is one you can trust. I get that feeling when I see him live too. You know those artists you see play live and you just know they’ve got this!Β  In this episode we talk about condoms and cover gigs. I also ask about the music scene in Dublin and what it was like leaving Sydney just as his solo project was gaining momentum. I obviously quiz him about his finances and find out whether he likes his parents coming to his gigs. Euan has always been very open about what it looks like getting his project off the ground which is why I think we bonded in the first place, it made for one of my most relaxed chats yet! Hello again! Today I have a band I am *so* inspired by κ•€ I never had older sisters but if I did I would’ve wanted them to be Sweetie !! Every time I’ve taken someone along to a Sweetie show we leave with our jaws on the floor. The chemistry and conviction they have is unmatched【!】 We also break the HDYM record of having the most amount of band members on the pod so far so please forgive some of the audio quality, but what lacks there is all made up for in top quality chat.Β  In this episode we talk about giving yourself permission to start a band at any age, the emotional rollercoaster of headlining the main room at the OAF and what it means to be a part of a female-lead music community! They also agreed to play at my wedding so someone put a ring on my finger asap xoxo It’s a goodie! Be warned, we laugh a lot. To connect head to How Do You Muse?
Hello hello! This week I have my ~π”²π”«π”¬π”£π”£π”¦π” π”¦π”žπ”© π”Ÿπ”²π”°π”¦π”«π”’π”°π”° π”π”žπ”―π”±π”«π”’π”―~ Jess Lord!! Jess is one half of the hottest mag in town, PUSH Magazine. You’ve probably seen her front row with her flip phone out ready to capture what ever is about to go down on stage.Β No one I know is across the local Sydney music scene quite like Jess is.Β  She is also my housemate. and my guinea pig for the HDYM project. This episode was actually the first I recorded for the podcast. It’s no secret I am a JL superfan, she’s a go-getter and one of her best qualities is the fact she genuinely loves to bring people together. Which I think has a lot to do with the success of PUSH.Β  In this episode we talk about diversity within PUSH, what she looks for in PUSH artists, how personally attached she is to the project, being made redundant and how often she eats frozen meals! Welcome Back! This week I have the ultimate β„π”₯𝔦𝔩𝔩 𝔀𝔦𝔯𝔩 Hannah Brewer !! Hannah writes some of my all time favourite pop songs, so much so that her debut single β€˜Pirate Song’ was my no.3 on Spotify Wrapped this year (true fan). Since our conversation she has gone on exchange to London to live her best academic life meanwhile back in Aus her track β€˜Rumspringa’ was recently the Most Played on Triple J πŸ₯΅Β  In this episode we talk about eating seafood platters at The Botany View and Christian Spotify Playlists! She’s a seasoned co-writer so of course I quizzed her all about songwriting sessions, top-lining and splits. To connect head to How Do You Muse?
Hello Hello! Today we have Jack and Lilla from Jet City Sports Club, an indie/pop/rock band from Sydney who have been killing it! The 4-piece played nearly 50 shows last year and I wanted to hear all about it. They've toured with THE GROGANS, THE VANNS, STUMPS, RUBY FIELDS and secured a hot spot at LOST PARADISE over the new years. In this episode we talk about busking, hostels, bad cover art, taxes and find out what Jack and Lilla’s definition of band success is!Β  To connect head to How Do You Muse?
