Title: Eugenics and Other Evils
Author: G. K. Chesterton
Narrator: Derek Perkins
Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 50 mins
Language: English
Release date: 01-23-18
Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Genres: Classics, Nonfiction
Summary:
During the first three decades of the 20th century, eugenics, the scientific control of human breeding, was a popular cause within enlightened and progressive segments of the English-speaking world. The New York Times eagerly supported it, gushing about the wonderful "new science." Prominent scientists, such as the plant biologist Luther Burbank, were among its most enthusiastic supporters. And the Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations generously funded eugenic research intended to distinguish the "fit" from the "unfit."
This prophetic volume counters the intellectual nihilism of Nietzsche, while simultaneously rebuking Western notions of progress - biological or otherwise. Chesterton expands his criticism of eugenics into what he calls "a more general criticism of the modern craze for scientific officialism and strict social organization."

Titre: Le médecin malgré lui
Auteur: Molière
Narrateur: Jacques Dufilho, Rosy Varte, Hubert Deschamps, Pierre Tornade, Françoise Seigner, René Renot
Format: Original Recording
Durée: 47 mins
Langue: Français
Date de publication: 01-12-18
Éditeur: Compagnie du Savoir
Genres: Classics, Poetry

Titre: Don Juan
Auteur: Molière
Narrateur: Jean Vilar, Daniel Sorano, Monique Chaumette, Georges Wilson, Philippe Noiret, Georges Riquier
Format: Original Recording
Durée: 1 hr and 47 mins
Langue: Français
Date de publication: 01-12-18
Éditeur: Compagnie du Savoir
Genres: Classics, Poetry

Title: War and Peace 1
Author: Leo Tolstoy
Narrator: Ella Porter
Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 6 mins
Language: English
Release date: 12-31-17
Publisher: Audioliterature
Genres: Classics, World Literature
Summary:
"War and Peace" (1869) is a classic novel by Leo Tolstoy, which is regarded as a central work of world literature and one of Tolstoy's finest literary achievements. The novel chronicles the history of the French invasion of Russia and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society through the stories of five Russian aristocratic families.
Volume One begins in 1805 in Saint Petersburg, at a soirée. The plot moves to Moscow, contrasting its provincial, more Russian ways to the more European society of Petersburg. The story continues at a country estate, and then Tolstoy describes the impending Russian-French war preparations. The major event in the book is the Battle of Austerlitz, portrayed as an early test for Russia, which ended badly because the soldiers fought for irrelevant things like glory or renown rather than the higher virtues which would produce, according to Tolstoy, a victory at Borodino during the 1812 invasion.

Formato: Unabridged
Durata: 15 hrs and 10 mins
Lingua: Italiano
Data di pubblicazione: 12-28-17
Editore: Collina d'oro
Categoria: Classics, World Literature
Riepilogo:

Title: Woman and Her Secret Passions
Author: Dr. Robert Wakely
Narrator: Brian V. Hunt
Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 48 mins
Language: English
Release date: 12-22-17
Publisher: Click Shock LLC
Genres: Classics, Nonfiction
Summary:
As a historical document, this audiobook is far more entertaining than it has a right to be. It's a wonderful, funny, sad peek into the emotional agonies of a sexual era that is happily past. Or is it?
You won't know quite whether to laugh, cry, or thank Dr. Wakely for his almost criminally Victorian little 1846 book whose original, full title is: "Woman and Her Secret Passions Containing an Exact Description of the Female Organs of Generation, Their Uses and Abuses, Together with a Detailed Account of the Causes and the Cure of the Solitary Vice".
If that doesn't have you panting breathlessly, some of the good doctor's rather indiscreet patient stories will. Masturbation is the evil he seeks to cure, and based on the original cover, you'd be forgiven for assuming it was a best seller. We don't know.
Despite stating that it was "for sale by all booksellers", one wonders who would have the nerve to make such a purchase in 1846. Men could have purchased it for the racy stories, and when you first dive in, you might think it was written for precisely that purpose.
But Doc Wakely should be given at least the credit for recognizing that the clitoris exists, that it was the "seat of female pleasure" (if parenthetically he felt it was only that when coupled in blissful matrimony), and that he does not condemn female pleasure outright.
He does give a fairly good account of the uses of the "female organs of generation", but the abuses he blames for all manner of physical, emotional, and psychological ills. In men, he is certain beyond doubt that masturbation leads to IMPOTENCE (his capitalization).
He tells young women not to lie in bed until late morning "...because of the fatal habits to which it sometimes gives rise, and which it fosters to a most alarming degree."
Of a pair of fun-loving newlyweds, he remarks upon their reaching a point of asexual relations:
"For a few days they enjoyed great pleasure, but as they continued this course week after week, they exhausted the flame of pleasure. To speak plain English, they wasted their seminal fluid too lavishly - they drained their bodies of that precious liquid, which is the cause of beauty, youth, and love."
Of another patient whom he examines, he states, "I also discovered that she was finely formed for giving the highest pleasure to a companion equally amorous with herself." Oh doctor!

Summary:
"The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach to-day, or else be false to my conscience and my God. Titre: Les femmes savantes

Format: Original Recording
Durée: 48 mins
Langue: Français
Date de publication: 12-22-17
Éditeur: Compagnie du Savoir
Genres: Classics, Poetry

Title: Alice's Final Adventure
Author: Alan Lance Andersen, Robert Hale
Narrator: Josephine Hall
Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 5 mins
Language: English
Release date: 12-21-17
Publisher: Alice's Final Adventure LLC
Genres: Classics, Kids & Young Adults
Summary:
Perhaps uniquely in all of literature, Alice in Wonderland has, over the years, lent itself to many different styles of interpretation. Whether straight imitation of the original, steampunk fantasy, gothic horror story, superhero comic book, or detective adventure, it seems that there is room for every possible variation.
By contrast, we are both lifelong students of the original stories and have firmly set our sights on producing as accurate a pastiche as possible, emulating the true Carrolian style. We have used songs and riddles in his style, created new characters that we hope he would approve of, and attempted, as far as possible, to have a voice as if Carroll himself had written it.
Alice is the same little girl that she always was. Wonderland and Looking Glass characters pop up in various guises and, with a few specific and intentional exceptions, everything is true to the original era.
