Human Energy Field

With our good friend David Ager from the Dungeonpunx, we sit down to answer more of your questions from Instagram and Discord in celebration of our one year anniversary! Thanks to the responses you've sent in we touch on everything from horror gaming to Kickstarter, how to be confident and how to overcome preparation anxiety, using props and immersion at the gaming table, managing your time and gaming sessions, style over substance, challenge versus risk, and how D&D's pop culture footprint has influenced the way people play it. The least spooky Halloween episode ever recorded where we just talk about Dune for an hour. Then we talk about Heirs to Heresy for an hour. We didn't plan it this way. As we look forward to Trial By Dice 2021, we take a look at what constitutes competitive play in roleplaying and examine some different ways of measuring progress in tournament-style games. We talk experience points, skills, wealth, character advancement, and the X-card gets mentioned again because of course it does. After a brief tangent praising Osprey Publishing's game line Henry bridges the middle of the episode with a bit of chat about a recently completed Cypher campaign and why Cypher makes for great stories. Then we roll up our sleeves and sharpen our blades to butcher Wild Beyond The Witchlight, 5e's latest offering. Is it lazy? Is it disappointing? Is it a sign of things to come? Tune in to find out! Henry's released an RPG - we chat about how awesome it is! Celtic fantasy! The highs and lows of small press publishing!  Then our friend Sam joins us to discuss Troika! companions and 50's/60's science fiction, and we found the HEF Book Club! We finish off with a brief look at Madhouse at the End of the Earth by Julian Sancton, a book recounting the horrors of a doomed Antarctic expedition in 1884.  Thank you for listening as always. This episode we take a look at the death of player characters - how it can serve the narrative, how it can benefit the game, and how best to pull it off. We cover all sorts of facets; internal and external closure, the difference between GM choice and player choice, emotional satisfaction, the lingering importance of deceased characters, and the many pitfalls of player vs player conflicts. We also discuss Osprey Publishing's new urban horror title Sigil and Shadow, and take a run down of some of the ongoing hobbying from our Forges of Gnothos campaign.
