In this episode (#233) of Leupold's Hunt Talk Radio, Randy and Andrew McKean wrap up their four episode series that explores the changing attitudes towards hunting in rapidly urbanizing western states by using political appointments to fill the agenda of those who are against hunting. We summarize what we've learned in our research and from our guests. We discuss where this effort is going, how well it is funded, and the importance of hunters getting involved, no matter what state they live in. We show how grassroots in Washington are being mobilized. We give ideas provided by folks who've been in these battles that illustrate how hunters make a difference. We explain why, if ever there was a time for hunters to get involved and stop fighting over the small stuff, now is the time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In the second episode of this series, they are joined by physician and former Washington Wildlife Commissioner Kim Thorburn. In her terms as a Commissioner, she supported hunting and hunters despite being a non-hunter. She explains how the political process was used/abused to take over the Washington Wildlife agency and is now being directed with an anti-hunting bias. Political favors, abuse of appointment power, and lack of interest in other opinions are the tools of this effort. This podcast series covers some of the events that are putting hunting in danger - and how anti-hunters are gaining footholds in some influential locations. Learn more about your ad choices. my first comment doesnt appear to have worked after a day, sorry if a dup. Thank you Randy for connecting us with CRWM, great info. I did donate to help with the fight, I hunt often in CO so this podcast really hit home for me. I had no idea how far reaching and deceptive the language within these types of legislation can be. If there was one comment to make that would make it better for me, it would be to have a "sound bite" that focused the msg that I could communicate to others.

great info captured in this podcast Randy. Ive known of Howl but this group has a very focused purpose in the state I hunt the most. I just donated for the cause. one thing I wish was made available more often is a sound bite for whatever the cause is, so when I am trying to promote the cause I would have the best message to communicate to non-hunters.

Thank you to Randy and Shane for leading and educating people on wildlife conservation. Truly, great work! I am interested to hear the views and gain knowledge when the conservation model is successful yet politics have interfered with the balance that is typical of wildlife management practices. For example, I understand wolf and grizzley bear populations have exceeded minimum levels of endangerment yet politics restrict harvesting these animals. What scenarios can be expected to the wildlife balance if these types of policies continue? ken

you can take the online course for 300 bucks but can't get a point until you field test and they're backlogged over a year and they're only letting youth hunters field test right now so the hunter ed bonus point isn't really an option for adults right now.
