The Husker247 HoopsCast returns on Wednesday to discuss Nebraska’s performance against Saint Mary’s, Fred Hoiberg’s thoughts ahead of the next game against Creighton and the aforementioned game against the Jays. Both Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson are in agreement that spurts of the game against Saint Mary’s featured some of the best play Nebraska has had on the hardwood this season. However the team couldn’t stay out of its own way long enough. Still Berke Buyuktuncel emerging as an option is a good thing going forward and Brice Williams showed he’s capable of pulling Nebraska into a game. Will that be enough against Creighton? The two debate the game and what would have to happen for the Huskers to pull a big upset in Omaha.  The show finishes with a one-hit wonder for guess a random Husker hooper. Who is it this week? The Husker247 Postgame Podcast convened to discuss the latest close but not good enough loss for the Huskers after the 28-20 defeat at the hands of USC. Mike Schaefer and Michael Bruntz discussed the Huskers latest performance and started with some coaching decisions including timeout usage like the one during the fourth quarter to punt and then the lack of tacking one during the final drive which likely cost the team more opportunities at the end zone late. The two ran through Nebraska’s offense and what looked different under Dana Holgorsen and where things can still stand to improve as the Huskers finished with just 30 points and barely crept past 300 yards of total offense. Finally what has happened with Nebraska’s defense and is it time to get some younger players in on the back end as the Huskers veterans struggled in the loss. Husker247 gathered for a post-game recap of Nebraska’s tough 21-17 loss to Ohio State on Saturday. Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer got together and walked through how the 4-point loss played out and why Saturday’s close loss was every bit as surprising as last week’s blowout to Indiana.  The two specifically dove into the strong play from the defensive front, highlighting Jimari Butler and MJ Sherman in particular as the two had strong performances and really made life difficult on Will Howard and the Ohio State offensive line. Then it was time to give John Hohl his flowers for a shockingly good kicking performance that allowed the Huskers to add points instead of getting nothing out of its early game success. Finally they addressed the offense from the running game to the play calling. A few things were working well in the running game but not much went right through the air. Where are things sitting for a passing game that was thought to be a strength at one point this season?
