We conclude with a few preliminary thoughts about the upcoming John Lennon Mind Games reissue, including the $1350+ ultimate set. In this episode, we review Ringo Starr's recently released EP, Crooked Boy. We discuss the importance (and benefits) of the album having one creative leader, in this case Linda Perry, and give our thoughts on the lyrics and music of each of the four songs. We go back into the lab to dissect the Beatles' 1969 song "Old Brown Shoe," first known as the B-side of "The Ballad of John and Yoko." This is a great George Harrison track filled with quirky lyrics, as well as complex, yet grooving music. We discuss the lyrics, music, who plays drums on the song, cover versions, and more. And then Chris shares a rant about Record Store Day, and we catch up on all the latest Beatles-related releases.  Feel free to email us a message (or record it) at ivegotabeatlespodcast@hotmail.com and we'll include you in our new "Please Mr. Postman" segment. Amazingly, after 12 years of doing this podcast, we've never done a full track-by-track analysis of the Paul McCartney and Wings 1973 album, Band on the Run. We give an overview of the album's genesis and history, go through the songs, discuss the many reissues, landing on the 50th anniversary edition (with the "underdubbed" mixes) released in February 2024. Is it Paul's best album? We also discuss some upcoming Beatles-related releases for Record Store Day, a new Sean Lennon album, and the relaunch of our video podcast. In this episode we go back into the lab to discuss John Lennon's 1972 song "New York City." Found on his double album Sometime in New York City, this song has been described as "journalese" and the "son of The Ballad of John and Yoko." We discuss some of the people mentioned in the lyrics, the production and music, and much more. We also tease our next episode on Band on the Run. And what did Ringo say about his upcoming album plans? Here's the cover song we mentioned: New York City Feel free to email us a message (or record it) at ivegotabeatlespodcast@hotmail.com and we'll try to include you in our new "Please Mr. Postman" segment. In this episode we look at the life and career of songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Denny Laine, who died in December 2023. Along with Paul and Linda, Denny was the only constant member of Wings during the 1970s, but he was also involved to varying degrees with many other groups throughout his life. We end the episode talking about the upcoming Band on the Run reissue, which Denny certainly played and sang on.  Feel free to email us a message (or record it) at ivegotabeatlespodcast@hotmail.com and we'll try to include you in our new "mailbag" segment. We're back with an IGABP tradition, our year in review and holiday gift episode! You'll hear us discuss all the releases from the Beatles (group and solo), including recordings, films, books, and much more. What were our favorites? We also play a fun game of "How much does this Beatles item cost?"; how does Dave do guessing prices? We also talk about our favorite non-Beatles reissues and new recordings, and then give our predictions for releases in 2023. Enjoy! In this episode, Dave and Chris discuss the 2021 film The Beatles and India. This is a documentary that's just about what it says -- how the Beatles' connections to India began, developed, and ended. Along the way, you'll hear from pundits like Mark Lewisohn and Steve Turner, Patti Boyd, and many others who were in Rishikesh when the Beatles stayed there in 1968. We also discuss one of the most significant revelations the movie points out regarding why the Beatles left India. We think the movie is well worth a watch. We're back after a summer hiatus! When was the last time you thought about the 40+ Beatles/Solo instrumental tunes? We went deep into the catalog and ranked our top 10 best instrumentals, which includes some obvious choices, but also some obscure gems. All four Beatles are discussed, but clearly Paul McCartney wins the award for sheer numbers of instrumentals. Did we choose your favorites? What do you think of our order?  Enjoy! In this episode, after many years of listener requests, we finally discuss The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, the famous 1978 Beatles spoof film that combines elements of Monty Python and Saturday Night Live! We talk about the film's background, the stars, the plot, the famous cameos, and so much more. What will Dave and Chris think of the film? How does it hold up?  We also talk about the announcement of Ringo's three upcoming EPs as well. Enjoy! Complete episodes can be found at https://ivegotabeatlespodcast.podbean.com. What would've happened if the Beatles reunited to make an album in 1973 based on the four albums recorded that year? We draw from Mind Games, Band on the Run, Living in the Material World, and Ringo to compile a 12-track album that we think would be even better if all four Beatles played and contributed to the songs. Chris and Dave both had different approaches to their album construction, but they both work well as listens. If only that had happened... Dave's album: Band on the Run, Jet, Photograph, Out The Blue, Don't Let Me Wait Too Long, I'm The Greatest, Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth), Mind Games, Bluebird, Bring on the Lucie (Freeda People), Who Can See It, and 1985. Chris's album: I'm the Greatest, Band on the Run, Sue You Sue Me Blues, Mind Games, Photograph, Let Me Roll It, One Day at a Time, Give Me Love, Bluebird, Be Here Now, I Know I Know, 1985 Enjoy! Within You Without You being included in this episode shocked me. It's a longtime favorite of mine. I know there's no accounting for taste, but really? This song made the duds episode but not Revolution 9? (It's like the Not Guilty fiasco all over again.) The middle instrumental segment with the dilruba and the sitar is like a lovely little conversation between the two and then the strings chime in and the whole thing just evokes a very authentic, calming, peaceful mood. I think this is the first time that I have adamantly disagreed with you guys about something. Still think you're awesome, though.

Rain is one of my favorites too! And Ringo is a total badass in the video. I'm only halfway through this episode, so maybe you'll mention it, but his drumming on She Said She Said is equally astounding.

Please tell me that you saw the Literal Music Video version of Penny Lane before they all got yanked off of YouTube. But only if it's true.
