Elizabeth Clor wanted nothing more than to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon. Dead set on achieving this goal, she found herself bound up in a vicious cycle of perfectionism and anxiety that thwarted her at every turn, despite making significant gains in her physical abilities over seven years. Most recently, she became injured after a cycling accident, and came back to running using a run walk run approach. Brian is an average Joe (he describes himself that way) who started running to honor his mother and set himself up to do the most incredible thing: run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days 'a la Michael Wardian' to raise funds for American Cancer Society. This is the story of how that came to be.   I will be doing my part to help Brian and ACS by donating all the proceeds of my YouTube channel ads in January.  Please consider doing your part too... so many folks cannot afford treatment in America, and with Covid, fundraising has declined tremendously. If you cannot donate,  please consider sharing this video on FB or Twitter, or text it to your friends... maybe someone you know can donate. Even the little things will help.   https://instagram.com/runningwineguy Brian's personal fundraising page https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR/DetermiNation/DNCY20NCR?px=30465532&pg=personal&fr_id=94969 Subscribe to the IRUNTHINGS youtube channel https://youtube.com/irunthings?sub_confirmation=1       Lifespan Treadmills https://lifespan-fitness.e9ppfh.net/NZBkV      ✅ MORE FROM I RUN THINGS  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/realIRunthings   YouTube https://www.youtube.com/irunthings   Twitter https://www.twitter.com/realirunthings  Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/irunthingscommunity   email suzierunsthings@gmail.com
Denise (aka The Marathon Whisperer) is back! She was our guest on episode 29, when she came to talk about her experience running the Everest Marathon in 2019.  This time, she comes back to talk about Comrades Marathon. Denise is an accomplished  ultra runner, triathlete, and running coach, and the author of the book, 'Me, You, and 26.2'. If you entered the giveaway of her book during the Everest episode and weren't lucky enough to get one of the two copies that we raffled, you will have an opportunity to get one this time around. For details on how to enter, stay tuned till the end of the episode. Also, please consider reviewing the show in your favorite podcast app. That helps other runners find the show as it pleases the Gods of the internet algorithm, and, it also pleases me of course! Because that way I know I am doing something right. Id like to also remind you that we can be found on social media under the name IRunThings on YT and Facebook, and under the name realIrunthings on Twitter and Instagram. I hope we get to know each other better that way, so don't be afraid to drop me a message in one of those four platforms. I answer each and everyone of the messages I get. In today’s episode we chat with Lara and Lori, who run the YouTube Channel Relentless pursuit of shade, about the Space Coast half marathon. Space Coast is one of the first major races to take place in the US under covid restrictions. In this interview you will find out more about how the race directors communicated the changes implemented for the safety of runners and spectators, what happened during the race, and what lara and lori thought about it. They bring an interesting individual perspective because this was Lori’s third time running the race, while it was Lara’s first. The episode was recorded in two different installments, the pre race report was recorded a few days before the race, and the post race report, a few hours after the race. The links to their social media will be in shownotes, so please show them some love by following them on Instagram and YouTube. I am sure they will very much appreciate the support. This episode will most likely put a smile on your face from the get go. Joe has run thousands of races, sometimes at the front of the pack, other times as a back of the packer. He has a wonderful attitude that will for sure inspire you to do hard things. And yes, he did overcome serious health challenges, but this podcast is not only about that, it is about how to enjoy running as much as it is about how to enjoy living! In today’s episode we chat with Scott Guillemette, General manager of Marathon Tours. He has been a highly requested guest, so when he accepted an invite to come to the show, I was incredibly excited. Marathon Tours is the  official North American travel agency for the Boston marathon, and as such they offer guaranteed entry to many of the world's most popular running events including the Virgin Money London Marathon, Tokyo Marathon TCS New York City Marathon, and more than 40 additional experiences. You might also be familiar with the 7 marathons in 7 continents challenge. In 1995, Marathon Tours created the Antarctica Marathon which generated a new genre of adventure runs. This race enabled runners to set and reach the once unthinkable goal of finishing a marathon on all seven continents. In this episode, you will hear more about the 7 continents club, Antarctica marathon, as well as some of the other destination races so many of our prior guests have been raving about! Cere became a runner thanks to a 'dare' with his surgeon following a serious skydiving accident that left him stuck to a wheelchair for years. His determination led him to push hard every day to be able to walk again.  Once he left his wheelchair behind, he fulfilled his promise and ran Athens Marathon, NYC Marathon, Rio Marathon, Sydney Marathon and -drum roll- the one that we cover on this podcast: the Great Wall Marathon. Fitz Koehler is a staple in the best and largest races in America. If you have run LA or Philadelphia marathons, or any of the DC races, chances are you have seen her at the start and finish lines. Last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer after getting a clean bill of health just 7 weeks prior. She had to go through several rounds of aggressive chemo as well as a few surgeries; however she continued with all her commitments and showed up to each race with a smile on her face to cheer on us, runners, even as her hair was falling and she was feeling violently ill.  She comes to the show today, 100% cancer free, to talk about this journey and about her book, ' My Noisy Cancer Comeback'. Her book is a memoir that will be very relatable to all of us, because it is a story of grit, resiliency and kindness, kindness to all of us, but also to herself.
