As we enter the holiday seasons, we have a special episode from Belmont College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences students Alexandra Macias, Rachel Sutcavage, & Eleni Tsaras. This episode focuses on recent foodborne illness outbreaks in the United States, how foodborne illnesses are spread, and how to protect yourself.
In this episode, I am joined by special guests Dr. Caitlyn Tyus, PharmD and Dr. Kayla Dodson, PharmD to discuss the many acronyms surrounding multidrug resistance, including ESKAPE, SPACE/SPICE, MYSPACE, and HECKYes. We review the organisms and why they are clinically important, how these acronyms have changed over the years, and treatment recommendations. (Both Drs. Tyus and Dodson have now completed their PGY-1 Pharmacy residencies.)
