On today's show I preview the AFC begging in the East. This may be the toughest division in football. I could see the Bills, Jets, or Dolphins winning it, but I like the Bills be a hair. In the North this also is a very tough division. Baltimore and Cincinnati are the two best teams and should battle it out until week 17 barring an injury to their QB. I like Houston in the South. CJ Stroud was amazing for the Texans last season, and I like what I see from that team. In the West as long as Mahomes is on the field I can't pick against them!

On today's episode I preview the NFC. I begin with the NFC and I think my pick will surprise many. I am taking the Rams to win the division. I also think my NFC North winner will raise some eyebrows as I am going with the Packers to edge the Lions. In the East, I pick the Eagles to win over the Cowboys in a two-team race and the South t me is a three-team race with Tampa edging the field.

As painful as it is, on today's podcast, I go over the Kings awful draft history. It began in 1985 when the Sacramento's first ever draft resulted in Joe Kleine being selected instead of Karl Malone. That was just the first of many, many blunders by Kings management. The Kings passed on many hall of famers including sure to be HOF's in Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, Luca Doncic....ok I'll stop. I know it's painful for Kings fans to think what might have been!

On today's episode I reflect on Father's Day. My dad's love of sports was the gateway to my career and the memories of watching and being at games together shaped me into who I am today. I have been blessed to share so many great sports memories with my two boys as well! Happy Father's Day!

On today's episode I discuss the elephant in the room with the WNBA. I start by letting you listen to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver talk about Caitlan Clark who has received a lot of media attention. I think it is such a shame that in 2024 we are still talking about someone's race and sexuality. Who Cares? I also think the biggest issue on this topic is primarily the media. I read a column from Phil Mushnick of the NY post who is one of the few who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I will not be watching the WNBA. The last few weeks has turned me off to their product. I will stick to watching women's basketball on the collegiate level!

May 31st is the four-year anniversary of my tweet, All Lives Matter! Every Single One! On today's episode I discuss what it was like for me back then. I answer the question am I'm sorry for my tweet and the answer is no and will always be no. I read a story from Phil Mushnick of the NY Post dated June 4, 2020. The subject was my tweet. Phil, unlike so many others, doesn't turn his head on important topics. He isn't afraid to speak out on sensitive topics. I applaud him for that. As MLK Jr once said, "our lives begin to end the day we remain silent about things that matter". Unfortunately, too many people in our country remain silent about things that matter. Antisemitism is just one example. I also read several other notes from 2020 including an email written by my dad's best friend after my father passed away in 2007. The email to this day is one of my greatest treasures as it encapsulates what my family stands for. So, on the four-year anniversary of my life changing 180 degrees I just want to say again, All Lives Matter! Every Single One!

On today's episode I reflect on the life of Bill Walton who passed away from cancer yesterday at the age of 71. I was blessed to have known Bill, work with Bill and so many of his friends. There will never be another Bill Walton. I share how I met Bill and what it was like calling NBA games with him. Announcing a game with Bill was hard to describe. It was 2.5 hours of flying by the seat of your pants, because I never knew what crazy things Bill would say. I also let you listen to Bill talking to a crowd about legendary UCLA Coach John Wooden. Wooden was like a father to Bill and it shaped Walton's life. RIP my friend. You will be sorely missed by so many.

On today's episode I reflect back on the career of Hall of Famer Jim Otto. Otto passed away this week at the age of 86. 00 is one of the most iconic images in pro football history. Otto played 15 seasons and never missed a game. He was a pro both on and off the field. I think you could make a strong argument that Otto is still the greatest Center ever! When I think of the Raiders, I think Al Davis and Jim Otto! RIP Pops!

Raise your hand if you had the Nuggets scoring only 70 points last night! The Timberwolves embarrassed the Nuggets setting up a Game 7 in Denver!

On today's podcast I discuss Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs. Butker recently delivered the commencement address at Benedictine College. He made comments on several topics that stirred much criticism and debate. I let you listen to an overview by ABC News and then we listen to an interesting conversation with NFL Network Host Rich Eisen and his wife Suzy Shuster who is a reporter at the same network. I then discuss the double standards in our society. Why isn't there much outrage over Rashee Rice who also is a member of the Chiefs. His offseason thus far has been one of utter embarrassment and reckless regard for human life. Two players on the same team, same league, but completely different in terms of coverage and outrage. It is a sad illustration once again about the problems with our society on both fronts.

Do you watch NFL pregame shows? On today's episode I discuss the recent firings of Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason by CBS. They are being replaced by J.J. Watt and Matt Ryan. Is there a reason for this? I play an excerpt from the Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio, New York. Kay insinuates age played a role and that is a slippery slope for CBS. I also read part of a column written by Phil Mushnick of the NY Post. Mushnick thinks these shows are a waste of time and I tend to agree. How often do you tune in to the various pregame shows? I rarely do!

On today's episode I review the Sacramento Kings season that resulted in 46 wins, but not good enough for the playoffs. I always like to look at 5-game increments. I think that is a better way to evaluate a team. I give a grade for every 5-games and then a letter grade for the players and coach. Bottom line, I saw this as a step back for the Kings and to me it was a disappointing season!

Yesterday the NBA announced the winner of the NBA's Sixth Man award, and it was not Malik Monk of the Kings. Naz Reid of the Timberwolves edged out Monk by two first place votes. Nothing against Reid, but I think Monk got screwed here!

This past week the NBA gave a lifetime ban to Jontay Porter of the Raptors for his involvement in betting on NBA games. Is this just the tip of the iceberg? In today's episode I explore the perils of sports gambling particularly among young men. It is fast becoming a big problem in our society. I let you listen to a few stories from our major networks, who disclose disturbing data regarding sports gambling. This multi-billion-dollar business continues to grow and continues to swallow up more and more people every day, especially young men. The domino effect of all of this is unbelievable and the data does not lie!

Yesterday it was announced that the Oakland A's will be playing in West Sacramento beginning next season for three years. On today's episode I talk about the facts...numbers that cannot be disputed regarding the franchise's attendance spanning seven decades. I feel bad for the A's fans, but the bottom line is they didn't support the team even when the A's were winning. I read an excerpt from Marcos Breton's column in yesterday's Sacramento Bee. He put it better than I could have. A's fans shouldn't be bitter at Sacramento. The A's and Oakland went through a divorce, which was approved by MLB. Yes, it sucks, but the A's are gone, just like the Raiders and Warriors before them!

Gambling on sports in America has been going on for generations. What was once taboo for sports leagues has become the norm, and that's promoting sports gambling. On today's episode I discuss the past week and the various stories that are having a negative impact on our sports leagues. Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers said publicly yesterday that he has never bet on sports or instructed anyone else to do so on his behalf. Yet, many questions remain involving his former interpreter and gambling allegations. Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff said last week that he has been threatened by gamblers and that we are walking a dangerous line. Yesterday, ESPN reported that Jontay Porter of the Raptors is being investigated for suspicious actions regarding prop bets. I also discuss the negative effect on young men in this country as it relates to sports gambling. I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. These stories will soon become the norm and not the exception I'm afraid!

It's that time of year! The NCAA Men's and Women's tournaments take center stage this week. On today's episode I explore the reasons why so many people watch these games, despite knowing very little about the teams. Most of us fill out brackets, but base our picks on merely a guess. Some pick teams because of a nickname, or geographical location. Gambling also enters into the attraction of these games besides just a bracket. I have always wondered is there a bigger sporting event annually where such little is know about most of the participants? I don't think so!

We lost a great man and a tremendous NFL reporter this week as ESPN's Chris Mortenson passed away from cancer at age 72. On today's episode I talk about my days at ESPN and what I recall about Mort. I also share stories about being around so many great on-air personalities at ESPN. I then read an excerpt from Peter King's Football Morning in America column. Peter wrote his farewell column Monday and began by paying great tribute to Chris!

There has been a lot of talk this week about court storming after Wake Forrest upset Duke last Saturday. Duke's Kyle Filipowski was injured during the melee. On today's episode I discuss this phenomenon and why is it accepted in college, but not pro sports. Do you ever see fans rush onto an NBA court? What about an NFL field? So, why isn't it a big deal in college sports? I read a column from Phil Mushnick of the NY Post detailing several people who have been hurt, some severely, from court storming. Will we have to see a fatality before something is done to prevent fans from rushing the court?

Great interview! GREAT show. Only feedback I would give is do more full shows than 2 a week. I mean covid has me working from home so had you streaming for 3 hours 4 days a week. haven't streamed the station since they let you go! I'm having withdrawals man!!!
Grant! Big fan of yours since the 80's......and no longer a season tix holder of the Sac Kings!!
Good to hear you on the air again Grant! Wish you the best with this new venture. Been listening to you since '94. For years never missed an afternoon with you on the radio. When you left the Kings and 1140 so did I. I'll be looking forward to following these podcasts.
Grant. have been a big fan for years. Met you at a Ron Miller event. glad to hear you are back. Mike Tracy
Great kickoff to the Podcast Grant. Good to hear your voice and opinions again. You touched upon some good issues that are not healthy for our country and sports. There is no balanced journalism anymore, it died with rise of social media apps, and people are using social media for their own selfish purposes to just get extra clicks and change the perspective. It's poisoning the whole fabric of the society and is a very sad situation. Well, I am going to try to listen to your podcast to connect back with real sports takes. Good to have you back. BTW the website link in your profile seems to be not right.
