Lilly Woodbury (she/her pronouns) Environmental Solutions & Optimism born in Tofino, British Columbia, on the traditional and unceded territory of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. Over the years she has been working with : Surfrider Foundation Canada past 7 years, and is currently the Regional Manager, leading campaigns to address dominant forms of plastic pollution in our oceans. She just completed her master's in environmental studies where she explored mechanisms to increased protection of blue carbon ecosystems by helping to enhance Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation authority over them. However, we need to keep making our voices heard so that there's a global moratorium on deep sea mining. ⚡️Historic investment in clean electricity in the Canadian federal 2023 budget, including $3 billion over 13 years in direct funding to support smart grid and other clean electricity projects. 🏕️In June, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act recognized every person in Canada's right to a healthy environment, a first for Canadian law. Our guests today have just returned to the US from Ukraine.   Our first guest and 3rd timer on IMPACT is Chip Duncan award winning documentary film maker and Journalist. along with his good friend Dan White founder of the Geotrac Foundation, an NGO focused on expanding the worldview of young people through travel and cultural exchanges.  Welcome back to IMPACT. *********************************************************** Today we will talk about "The IMPACTs of War". ************************************************************* Background: First, Dan and Chip met on an exploratory mission to Ukraine in September, 2022. Their team was organized by PASS - a company based in Alexandria, Virginia in conjunction with THE CARPATHIAN FOUNDATION from Hungary.  Their first trip focused on refugees and IDPs (Internally displaced people) and those who struggle with disabilities.   Ukraine has a population of about 44 million people and roughly 14 million have been displaced, and about half of those were refugees at the time of their first visit (refugees are those who leave the country vs. those are are internally displaced).  They visited refugee centers in Hungary, Budapest and Moldova and visited IDPs in Vinnytzia, Ukraine.  Many of the IDPs were disabled prior to the war and several had settled at a rehabilitation center in Vinnytzia called OPEN HEARTS.   Their second journey was in May of this year and they entered Ukraine through Poland.  This recent visit included Lviv, Chernihiv, Zhodamyr, and Kviv area with an emphasis on relationship building with community leaders, assisting in medical distribution and medical collaborations with US-based doctors, and documenting war crimes.  They also revisited OPEN HEARTS initiative.  If you want to help Chip and Dan's initiative to help Special Needs refugees fleeing the war zone. His business administration education and entrepreneurship experiences led him to the creation of UOF, 20 years ago, under the business principles that made his companies successful.  This mandate has led to industry low operating expenses with all outside donations going into productive projects and programs.    Kent Bubbs Jr (Exec. Director) Kent has been working with UOF since 2008 and focuses his attention on strategic planning, program development and encouraging our community to help us fulfill Universal Outreach's vision for a better tomorrow.  His dedication to the concept of equality in the world is his motivation for creating programs that are accountable, transparent, efficient and effective. Kent has 14 years of experience in development work and holds certificates from the University of British Columbia in International Development and Project Management.    Landis Wyatt (Board Chair).  With over twenty years of marketing experience Landis uses her gifts for storytelling, photography and filmmaking to encourage people to give back to the world and see each other's successes as our own. After spending the past 15 years in Liberia, she fondly refers to it as home. Landis studied at the University of Regina and continued her education with courses in photography, graphic design, accounting and development work. 

Jeremy is Founder/VP of Sustainability at Pela (PEEL-AH), Material Scientist and Environmental Consultant.   Key Focus: Working to eliminate 10 Billion pounds of waste from the global waste stream while continuing to research and develop the most innovative products to create a waste- free future Jeremy believes creating businesses as a force of good to leave the world better than we found it. While climbing society's corporate ladder as an environmental consultant he felt the urge to live his own dreams so he started Open Mind Developments Corporation in 2007 to look at problems with an open mind for a different view, and solve them. Seeing plastic litter on a beach inspired Jeremy to create the world's first compostable phone case and Pela in 2011, to help solve the plastic waste problem. Our guests today are a team of eco-adventurers currently producing a Docu-Series based on a massive road trip from Alaska to Patagonia using Electric Cars, they will be visiting and interviewing some extraordinary organizations that are creating solutions for a sustainable future.  Please welcome Martin, Oli and Tuti of Electric Americas! Martin, an extreme sports enthusiast who has been living in San Francisco, decided to return to Uruguay with his family without using fossil fuels. He recruited two of his life-long friends, Oliver and Maria (Tuti), to partake in this adventure while raising awareness of climate change. Martin and Oliver met through their love of extreme sports, and Tuti and Oliver connected by working together in photography and video production. Together with Martin's wife and newborn son, the team is crossing the Americas in an electric car, driving 20,000 miles in six months and through twelve countries. They will work with local governments, organizations, and schools to engage people in the climate change discussion and promote sustainability initiatives. They will also incorporate their passion for extreme sports to encourage people to reconnect with nature.
