We round out 2024 with a special Christmas Edition episode of INXS: Access all Areas where we wrap up a massive year with a detailed news section, reminisce through the best eps of the year and share some exciting updates and developments for 2025!
We commenced the year with a deep dive into Michael Hutchence’s posthumous solo album, leading to a long held ambition of chatting to Mark Pellington (Beautiful Girl Video Director, Alex Proyas (Kiss the Dirt), Jon Lamoreaux from The Hustle Podcast amidst many fascinating deep dive episodes including Rockstar INXS, The Switch Album and The Original Sin Project. Most importantly, we culminated the year with the magnum opus review and discussion of the 2014 Never Tear Us Apart Mini Series where we spoke with Nick Masters (aka Tim Farriss) and examined its legacy piece.
Bee and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our valued patrons, global listeners, support staff, every tribute/cover band and guests who appeared on INXS: Access all Areas in 2024. Keeping the band’s legacy alive, maintaining momentum in getting them nominated into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and passing on their important musical baton to the next generation of listeners is everything!

Forever, erudite and explanatory, Nick opens up on the bond and shared experiences each cast member built with one another that ultimately reflected in the final product they hit our screens. Additionally, Nick reveals some long held rumours and anecdotes as fact putting to rest long held rumours particularly the “wig” scenario.
As a relative rookie screen actor, Nick’s role in portraying Tim Farriss was a pivotal and crucial element to the credibility and quality of INXS: Never Tear Us Apart being the critical and commercial success it was.

It’s that solemn date 0f 22/11 again where we pay homage and respect to the dearly departed Michael Hutchence who left us 27 years ago today.
Forever in our hearts and the forefront of our minds, we’d like to do something a little different this year. Instead of hearing from Bee, myself, the INXS fan cohort, band mates and friends, we thought a montage of rare, known and classic Michael interviews would be welcome.
Once again, we can be reminded of his fantastic talking voice, articulate thoughts and unique take on INXS place in the musical sphere.
So close your eyes, open your heart and ears and enjoy the dulcet spoken words of a long lost, but still loved icon that is Michael Kelland Hutchence.
Love and peace
All clips used are used with respect to those that originally recorded them. Our podcast is about getting INXS fans together again to celebrate Michael hutchence and the rest of INXS.

INXS: Access all Areas bring to you the most difficult of episodes since our Michael Hutchence funeral episode as we tackle Part Two of the Never Tear Us Apart Mini-Series circa 2014. That part of the INXS journey where Director Daina Reid tackles the wilderness years and unraveling of the band dynamic. Exhilarated but humbled by conquering the UK and European market culminating with the legendary Wembley gig in July 1991, INXS faced an undeserved and unwarranted backlash from their homeland. Episode two captures this and the ensuring dramas associated with trying to remain artistically and commercially relevant in a fast changing musical world with grunge, the Manchester scene and hip hop suddenly dominating the airwaves.
This episode manages to capture a band still producing creative and daring material amidst the pressures of fame, family, relationships and Manager pressures and expectations. But with commercial appeal waning and the band members scattered throughout the globe, we get a “warts and all” account from the inside as to the difficulty many bands face when attempting to keep the machine rolling along.
This episode respectfully deals with the obvious “elephant in the room” be it November 22nd, 1997 whilst criss-crossing time periods allowing the audience to appreciate the many decisions, compromises, struggles, sacrifices and commitment, INXS had to make during their career. As the show veers from re-creation into real spliced footage of the band traversing the world whist conquering countries, audiences, hearts and minds. Unabashedly and emotionally charged in more ways than one, we permit you to open up your soul and be proud of this Australian sextet who left an indelible footprint on the world.

This Week’s Episode: Behind the Scenes of Creative Vandal We’re beyond excited to bring you a special episode featuring an exclusive interview with Peter Pahor, the brilliant director behind Creative Vandalism, the award-winning documentary on our friend and podcast mentor, Nick Egan.
Nick’s journey with INXS started with a shared love of music and a friendship with Michael Hutchence back in the mid-‘80s. That connection paved the way for some of the band’s most iconic visuals, including the unforgettable Kick album cover, which continues to define the INXS legacy. But Nick’s influence didn’t stop there—his creative genius took him on an impressive path, working with legendary artists like Duran Duran, Bob Dylan, Oasis, and Alanis Morissette, just to name a few.
We’re proud to take a deep dive into how this documentary came to life, as Peter reveals the stories, inspirations, and behind-the-scenes moments that make Creative Vandalism a true masterpiece. So sit back, relax, and join us as we uncover the magic behind the making of this gem!

After 4.5 years, INXS: Access all Areas reaches a special milestone of 200 episodes and what better way to celebrate than commemorate the Mini Series: Never Tear Us Apart starting with a deep dive into Part One. The episode that we coined “The Ascent” where we see the band climb from humble beginnings to the career zenith of Wembley 1991.
With impeccable casting and production values from Endemol Shine Australia, this iconic mini series launched on Australian TV on Sunday February 9th, 2014 and concluded the following week on February 16th to record ratings for the Channel 7 network.
Filmed in Melbourne Australia with a cast of known but not overtly famous actors, Director Daina Reid elicits heartfelt and acute performances particularly from industry veteran Damon Herriman whose portrayal of INXS Manager Chris Murphy may be the shrewdest casting in many years.
With a swathe of songs representing INXS’ early career success in Australia, fans and the less initiated are taken into a heady and nostalgic period when music and gigs were the soundtrack and vehicle for youth culture and entertainment.
Additionally, we get to see the work ethic, commitment and sacrifice of an emerging band who had the courage to leave the safety and earnings potential of Australian shores and “risk it all” by tackling the behemoth that was America. Inspiring, endearing, passionate and purposeful, go back and watch with fresh eyes and ears before listening to this podcast!!
A big thank you to everyone that sent in their thanks to add this episode hearing From Tim and Andrew Farriss, Leigh Francis, our wonderful friends and patrons but not forgetting Nick Egan celebrating our achievements with a firework ending. We love you all.

Forever the creative soul, Michael Hutchence was born to be more than just a lead singer of an international rock band. From the early days, Michael embraced the theatrical possibilities of music video and was at the forefront in ensuring INXS songs captured a visual vibrancy and vitality.
As such, in today’s episode we dive deep into the critical performances that shaped and piqued Michael’s acting urges commencing in 1982 when Michael joined forces with iconic Cold Chisel songwriter, Don Walker in contributing to the seminal 1982 Australian film Freedom with two tracks and one video, notably Speed Kills that showcases a 21 year old Michael. The next 4 years were committed to INXS’ global ascent via albums Shabooh Shabaah, The Swing and Listen Like Thieves, plus the relentless touring attached to these triumvirate recordings. So, it took till 1986 for Michael to clear his schedule when the opportunity came up to star in Richard Lowenstein’s Dogs in Space came up. A movie that embraced the punk leanings of shared living suburbia amidst musical graft, this iconic art house movie has endured and influenced generations of fans and filmmakers over 38 years, despite its middling box office performance at the time.
Fast forward 4 years later post the juggernaut albums and tours that were Kick and X, Michael scratched a lifelong itch portraying famed British poet Percy Shelly, by joining Bridget Fonda, John Hurt, Jason Patric and Raul Julia in legendary Hollywood Director Roger Corman’s last ever picture “Frankenstein Unbound”. A true passion piece and one that Michael embraced with unyielding commitment and joy.
Finally, Michael portrayed a Record Executive mogul in the underwhelming indie feature “Limp” that despite its problems, aroused the attention of both Michael Douglas’ and Quentin Tarantino’s production companies with speculation of future projects in the offing.
Unfortunately, Michael’s untimely passing thwarted what may have led a promising acting career into a burgeoning one. What is known, Michael possessed a charisma, a stare and a glare amidst an inner drive and creativity to succeed and express. One can only imagine what more he could have achieved in this space.

After deep diving on INXS’ 2010 Original Sin Album last week, we take a detailed look at the album’s legacy, the influence of Chris Murphy on the band during this period and some of the exciting tour/setlists performances that accompanied this album release.
Having seen the band perform at Day on the Green at Rockford Estates Melbourne, Victoria in February 2011, the setlist provides an interesting backdrop to the sounds and styles of the album in a real time “live setting” with support bands including Train, Baby Animals and The Models.
The influence of Chris Murphy rejoining the band again in a creative and supporting role cannot be underestimated. He took the pressure and burden off the remaining 5 members of INXS to prove their worth and bona fides. Rather, he instilled faith and direction in the band to embrace their past, thrust their catalogue and pursue a band to brand strategy that inspired the band to look back and re-record the tracks that ended up being the Original Sin Album.
With a jam packed news section, tribute song for the ages and a whole lot more, we present to you another vital episode of INXS: Access all Areas.
Love and peace Haydn & Bee

Having completed nearly 200 gigs with JD Fortune via the Switch Album Tour over 2006-2007, INXS took a much needed break in 2008 to recharge the batteries and contemplate further new chapters in their career post Michael Hutchence.
Amidst, a temporary falling out with JD, the band reunited with long term Manager Chris Murphy after a 14 year hiatus from band duties. With a renewed focus to move the band to a brand, the bank found inner inspiration when jamming in the studio during 2009 deconstructing old songs with new arrangements.
As such, the idea to re-record some well known and unique deep cut INXS tracks was born with the idea of inviting select singers, DJ’s and world music artists to lend a hand. A unique initiative rarely taken by a band and one normally reserved for tribute acts.
With Jon Farriss and James Ash (Rogue Traders Founder) spearheading the production duties, the band put together an ambitious, creative and artistically successful album that avoided being a simple rehash or rebooting of existing soundscapes.
With guest contributors including Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe), Pat Monahan (Train) and Nikka Costa, the album manages to incorporate modern production, excellent musicianship and soaring vocal performances imbuing a sense of celebration and admiration for INXS’ songs.
The album undoubtedly did in 2010 and now in 2024 challenge ardent, stoic and rusted on fans whose ears may be permanently etched to the sounds of the original songs, however as we have said on many occasions, “listen without prejudice” and you’ll be in for a rare musical experience.
we also have a poll running on our Facebook page. So cast your votes on your top 5 songs off this album there.
Love and peace ✌️

Occasionally a song comes along that sits sedately surrounded by more spectacular songs but somehow over the journey of time reveals itself sonically, lyrically and emotionally within our hearts and minds. That’s the story of INXS’ masterpiece “The Stairs” from 1990’s X album.
After the one, two punch of Suicide Blonde and Disappear, both which climbed into the Billboard Top 10 Charts, The Stairs subtly and gradually provides a moment of introspective reflection in urban living amongst the masses and social alienation. With a contemplative introduction devoid of lyrics and full band interaction until the 80th second, INXS (according to Michael Hutchence) commit to a songwriting process and pathway that was to this point, their most ambitious recording. Absent was the traditional intro, verse, chorus, verse outro song structure with a greater emphasis on lyrical resonance and escalation.
With a passioned vocal by Michael and a film clip that supports the lyrical themes of isolation and lack of community connection, INXS create a soundscape, lyric and message that some 34 years later has current day meaning in this online heavy but community lacking world. Having done deep dive episodes on more prominent singles such as What you Need, Never tear us Apart, Don’t Change, Burn for You and The One Thing, we are proud to share a unique deep cut that has only blossomed and grown in the hearts, minds and souls of true INXS fans since 1990.

Today, we examine the remaining 6 tracks from studio album 11, from INXS’ Switch recording that as discussed on the previous episode, showcased a new era for the band.
With a variety of band member contributions, side 2 highlighted a distinct set of sounds, sonics and lyrics with the band exploring a more creative process.
Opening proceedings with a unique Co-write between ex New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander, Annie Roboff (Indigo Girls) and Andrew Farriss, we see INXS broaden their traditional sound with a bunch an assortment of ballads, mid tempo rock tracks, reggae and four to the floor synth rock anthems (Hungry). It highlights Andrew Farriss previous years traveling the globe seeking lyrical inspiration and song craft partnerships that was lost with Michael’s unfortunate passing.
The fruits of these travels is more than reflected in the final recordings. With a punchy, but effective news section update and some auction/raffle announcements, we also share news on an exciting former guest who’ll be re-appearing on episode 192.

With INXS refreshed and revitalized post Rock Star INXS, the band entered the Westlake Studios in Los Angeles, California. With a brand new front man, JD Fortune to record and mix their 11th studio release aptly named Switch, further mixing was completed both at MixStar Studios at Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sphere Studios in London, UK.
Nearly 8.5 years since their final recording with Michael Hutchence on Elegantly Wasted, the band wasted no time between September-November 2005 laying down 11 tracks that would represent the dawn of a new era for the band and be the precursor to a World Tour in 2006.
Produced by Guy Chambers, formerly with World Party and main Co-Writer with Robbie Williams, he and Andrew Farriss were able to unite and combine for an album that sounded fresh, vital, progressive but with that typical INXS DNA underpinning its sound and sonics.
Today, we examine Side One’s 5 tracks spearheaded by the international hits that were Pretty Vegas and Afterglow whilst also discussing the narrative, expectations and experiences of other rock bands that have lost front man over their careers whether it be by departure or unfortunate passing.
So as the famous line from George Michael’s second album denoted, “listen without prejudice” and revel in a time when INXS challenged themselves, the critics and the wider fan base with a new singer, sound and a bunch of songs that heralded a new era for them!

What is a hook, I can hear you say? A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage or phrase, that is used in music to make a song appealing and to catch the ear of the listener. With over 250 songs recorded, narrowing down a list to only 10 each was a daunting task.
That aside, our final lists unearth some interesting gems, deep cuts, predictable favourites and a few unexpected left turns making the whole exercise, a fun and rewarding experience.

As we put a bow around our three part series on Rock Star INXS, we breakdown the Top Ten Reels from the show that highlighted the strengths and joys of the show that still resonate 19 years after airing. Unlike many reality shows that were steeped in manipulation, occasional humiliation and cheesy contrived antics, Rock Star INXS in 2005 was a breath of fresh air insofar as allowing contestants to develop their talent, thrive in musical clinics and perform to a band judging panel that were educated, empathetic and 100% versed in the task at hand.
With a catalogue of artists and songs from icons such as the Beatles, the Stones, the Police, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Alanis Morissette, The Who and Living Colour, the contestants were able to draw inspiration from these classic songs whilst showcasing their talent to the world. That being said, today we count down, share and relive the 10 most memorable moments that made Rock Star INXS, despite its critics, a worthy and exciting chapter in the post Michael era. Plus providing the band with a renewed platform to continue doing what they loved doing, making and playing fantastic music.
Finally, we give a massive shoutout to the incomparable Garry Gary Beers who turns 67 this week and we share some exciting news regarding Andrew Farriss’ new single and video in our bumper news section.
So do yourself a huge favour and tune into the only 100% weekly dedicated podcast that is INXS: Access all Areas.

As we welcome Bee back from her European travel escapades, INXS: Access all Areas roars back with a vengeance as we continue the Rock Star INXS theme with a forensic deep dive into the birth of the Billboard Charting hit Pretty Vegas.
Commencing as a contestant activity, Andrew Farriss and Dave Navarro commissioned two teams to go away and write melodies and lyrics to a bed of music created by Andrew and the band. What follows is one of the most interesting and out there sliding doors moments whereby JD Fortune goes “psychotically clever” (according to rival Marty Casey) and constructs his own version outside group directive
In addition, we are launching a brand new segment that shall allow any current or future patron to participate on any forthcoming episode with an emphasis on past concerts performed by INXS during their 1977-2012 live career.
With a bumper NEWS section and a renewed vigour, this long awaited episode is not to be missed!!!
