Description

Whether you’re a world barista champion brewing a $150 rare

coffee from the hills of Panama, or you’re stirring a spoon of

instant coffee in boiling water, at the end of the day, It’s Just

Coffee!

It’s Just Coffee! is a podcast for all those coffee lovers out there

and we're endeavouring on a journey to find the perfect cup.

Not only will we be talking to the world’s best coffee makers

and roasters, we’re going to be talking to athletes, comedians,

celebrities and anyone that just loves a great cup of coffee.

The coffee community around the world is engaged and

passionate (sometimes to a fault), and we want to explore

some of the biggest debates that happen across the Internet,

and in the local cafe around the corner from you.

Questions like:

• Which country has the best coffee in the world?

• Should it be illegal to mix milk in black coffee?

• Is Starbucks actually coffee?

We’ll dive into some of the best coffee conversations on the

internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the

day, that It’s Just Coffee!

Hi coffee people! Today’s episode features Brandon and Mitch, 2 of the 3 owners of Good Measure. Good Measure is a vibey cafe on Lygon Street in Melbourne’s northside. During the day, they serve up delicious sandwiches and the very famous ‘Mont Blanc’, a lightly sweetened filter coffee topped with whipped cream and an orange nutmeg spice. At night, this space transforms into a cosy, Japanese-inspired cocktail bar. With vinyls spinning, Good Measure will serve a stunning range of sake and unique signature cocktails, accompanied by snacks like their house made kimchi-fries.  Rohan and Kirk unpack with the boys what it’s truly like running Good Measure. You’ll hear stories of the early days when Good Measure was just an idea and how that idea continually evolved into the cafe Melbourne now knows and loves. You’ll also hear the hilarious side of this cafe (ahem, the time Brandon fell through the ceiling during a very busy Saturday) and uncover the challenges they face working in the hospitality industry. In coffee news, we’re seeing a big increase of Americans drinking specialty coffee. Does this mean saying ‘goodbye’ to Starbucks? We’ll also discuss the Top 10 cities in the world for coffee, and if you’re a proud Melburnian, you’re not gonna like the outcome… If you're new here (happy to have you!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day; It's Just Coffee! Big thank you to Brandon and Mitch for joining the show. Check them out on Instagram @goodmeasuremelbourne and follow us @itsjustcoffee so you never miss a drop.  Biggest thanks to our listeners. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did!
Hi coffee people! Joining us on the show this morning - the wonderful Dan Dick. Dan has an illustrious career in the industry, with five cafes across Melbourne and a budding roastery by the name of 'Born and Raised'. He is also a dedicated father, husband and all round coffee lover. Dan describes coffee as his ‘love language’, and gained publicity during the pandemic by providing free coffee to those in need.  Rohan and Dan reminisce on their time working together in Melbourne cafes (does anyone remember the clover machine?), swapping stories of hungover shifts and ridiculous rushes. Plus, Dan shares all the things he wishes he knew before starting a business.  In coffee news, coffee grounds have been shown to protect water sources from pollution, and new findings from the ABC claim we need to stop complaining about the price of coffee in Australia. Also, get ready for some extra hot takes this episode as Dan comes for the sandwich shops.  If you're new here (happy to have you!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day; It's Just Coffee! Big thankyou to Dan for joining the show. Check out Dan on Instagram @danielpeterdick and follow us @itsjustcoffee so you never miss a drop.  Biggest thanks to our listeners. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did!
What’s up! We have a very special guest on the pod today; the wildly hilarious comedian and writer, Gen Fricker. We were lucky enough to steal Gen for a chat while she was in town for the Melbourne Comedy Festival. In this episode, Gen, Kirk and Rohan discuss getting (and giving) bad reviews, Gen shares tales from the comedy scene, as well as hospo horror stories, and introduces the boys to the fat white - yum.  In coffee news, Elaine from Seinfeld is making moves in the instant coffee world, the flat white debate is further complicated by an Italian man from Far North Queensland, and Kirk’s cafe ‘Project Zero’ takes its first online hit.  If you're new here (thanks for joining!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! It was fantastic to have Gen on the show. She provoked interesting and insightful commentary on the coffee scene in Australia, bringing light, laughter and great conversation to the pod.  If you love Gen as much as we do, check out her instagram @genfricker, and follow us @itsjustcoffee so you never miss an episode.  We appreciate our listeners! Thankyou for tuning in to episode 7, we hope you are having a great day!
Hello lovely people. Today we are joined by the coffee powerhouse, Daniel Seyoum. Daniel’s family have been growing coffee in Ethiopia for over 45 years, with Daniel himself running farms using traditional agricultural practices. He now heads two successful cafes in Melbourne. Both Ageyo and Little Ezida have grown wildly successful, with a focus on ethical and direct trade.  In this conversation, Daniel provides a unique and valued perspective on coffee farming and its history; on everything from goats discovering caffeine to the health risks associated with farming malpractice.  We are so grateful to Daniel for sharing his story regarding the internal conflict in Ethiopia and its impact on not only the coffee industry but his family and the wider community.  Plus, Kirk and Rohan are back with some coffee news (good news for coffee addicts), and Rohan has a bone to pick about the ever growing variations of milk.  If you're new here (what’s up!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! We were so lucky to have Daniel on the show this week. If you love this chat, make sure to follow us @itsjustcoffee, and check out Daniel at @ageyocoffee and @little_ezida. Thank-you for joining us for ep 6! Hope you have a delicious week of coffee!
Hey everyone! Today we welcome the legendary Ross Quail to the pod. Ross has years of experience working for equipment manufacturers and specialty coffee roasters. You may recognise him from his role as Head Judge at the World Barista Championships (this man knows good coffee). Today, he is Head of Sales at the Hemro Group, constantly travelling across the world in the name of coffee! We were lucky enough to sit down with him before he jumped on a jet to Seoul. In this episode: Instant coffee prices have doubled, WA bans single use coffee cups, and which cafes are using glass for takeaway? Plus, Ross dives into his coffee journey, from the Australian Army to ST. ALi, and divulges what his day to day looks like (spoiler - grinders never sleep). Plus, Rohan is back; and so are the extra hot takes!  If you're new here (yooo!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! Big thanks to Ross for this wonderful conversation. If you want more content (duh!) follow us @itsjustcoffee, we really appreciate your support.  Thank-you for tuning in! We hope you are drinking some bloody good coffee.
Hello hello, this one’s a cracker!  On today’s show: Kirk is joined by Golden Brown co-founder Sonam Sherpa. Sonam has had an esteemed career in the coffee industry; from pouring countless lattes to the establishment of two cafes and a coffee brand, this guy’s done it all! Together, they explore the often overlooked business aspects of the coffee industry.  Plus, Sonam flips the script, grilling Kirk with hard-hitting questions that uncover tales of tyrannical chefs and cold brew secrets. Also, why is Kirk bringing back decaf?  If you're new here (welcome!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! Rohan, we miss you and look forward to having you back next week. But in the meantime, it was great to have Sonam on the pod. We suggest pairing our podcast with the coffee of your choice for the ultimate experience, enjoy!
Hi guys! Today we’re sitting down with Brew Boy, also known as Park Tanpapat, the coffee artist behind Terroir Laboratory. Pac travels the world discovering, roasting and experimenting with coffee - we were lucky enough to pin him down in Melbourne for this epic chat. In this episode, Kirk and Rohan get the inside scoop on the world's best (and most controversial) coffee farms… coffee picking based on moon cycles…? Plus, the boys give their take on everything from Quentin Tarantino’s new coffee shop to the bean auctions that break the bank.  Also - a celebrity cameo from Joe Jonas!!???  If you're new here (hi), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day that, It's Just Coffee! It was a treat to have Brew Boy on the show. If you love this interview, check out Park on Instagram @brewboyy and follow the pod @itsjustcoffee.  Thanks so much for lending your ears for ep 3 ! Hello friends! Today we are joined by one of Australia’s most prominent baristas - and runner up in the 2024 Brewers Cup - Hany Ezzat.  In this chat, Hany pops Kirk and Rohan’s metaphorical coffee cherries…hmmm…and the boys pick Hany’s brain about how to prepare for the ‘Olympics of Coffee’ (how much money does his award winning brew actually cost?). Plus, Hany discusses using minerals as coffee seasoning, how cup shape can change the taste of coffee, and poses the question; can drinking specific water before coffee change its flavour?  Also - Rohan and Kirk discover what bodybuilders and baristas have in common, and Hany hits them with an extra hot take with 1 sugar; announcing that ___ is cancelled!!?? If you're new here (hi), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! We hope you love this episode just as much as we do.
