Our guest this morning on Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem is Sandra Mao -- author of the just published book, Vibrant Harvest: Cultivating a Kaleidoscope of Colors in Your Vegetable Garden with Heirlooms, Modern Hybrids, and More.   This book is a refreshing approach to gardening; it's container-garden friendly and emphasizes some of the less commonly planted varieties -- promoting an "eat the rainbow" approach to diet and fresh home grown produce. This podcast is a replay of the original broadcast live on 810 KSFO; we're live on the air in San Francisco and online at KSFO.com each Sunday morning from 9 until 10.  This podcast edition has been lightly edited to remove music and most advertising.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Still the premiere radio show about Organic Gardening in the SF Bay Area, Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem is live on the air on 810 KSFO each Sunday morning at 9:00 am local time in San Francisco.  This podcast is the time-shifted version; we've edited out most of the ads and all of the music, and left in all the calls and all the gardening advice for you to enjoy.  Today we discussed (along the way) soil remediation with epsom salts or with hydrogen peroxide (hint: proceed with caution!), tree care and community gardening. Folks called about their citrus trees, hummingbird feeder formula, and many other topics.  For more information about our show including text archives from Bob, see bobtanem.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our guest this morning on Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem was  you -- the bay area gardeners who call in.  We had some out-of-area gardeners weigh in too when it comes to that, but this is the Bay Area's premier radio talk show about organic gardening, after all. Originally aired live on Sunday morning on 810 KSFO San Francisco, this podcast on-demand edition of our show is the same as the original, but has most of the advertising and all of the music edited out, for your protection and that of the license holders.  No license is required to grow things in your garden, so here we are!  For the unedited experience join us live, 9:00 to 10 am Pacific time on 810 KSFO, and on KSFO.com streaming live.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Welcome to the Podcast Edition of Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem; we present a faithful reproduction of the live (Sunday 9 to 10 am on 810 KSFO San Francisco) radio show, edited lightly to remove most of the ads and all of the music. Our special guest this morning was Tamara Jo Hicks, co-author of the Feasts on the Farm cookbook along with Jessica Lynn MacLeod.  This is a homegrown recipe book out of the Tomales neighborhoods of West Marin, where Tamara and her husband run a goat and sheep milk outfit called Toluma Farms.  Sourced from locals, and with a foreword by Alice Waters, the recipes in this book come with stories and pictures, making this a beautiful work of art, featuring artistic culinary creations using local ingredients.  The book is available at local bookstores and and select Bay Area farmers' markets.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our guest on the garden show -- Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem -- this morning is Dan Posey.  Dan was a colleague and sometimes competitor with Bob Tanem in the nursery business, they met competing with their show gardens at the Marin and Sonoma county fairs many years ago.  Edie has known Dan since she was, well, a lot younger. These days, Dan is with Oaks of Hebron, a non-profit service agency in Sonoma County, and he is mentoring a new startup nursery in Sebastopol called Growing Together Nursery, which complements Growing Together Farm and other endeavors.   The nursery is located at the former California Carnovores retail location at 2833 Old Gravenstein Highway in Sebastopol, and is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, and on Saturday from 8:00 to 4:30 pm. and is open to the public.  Dan reminisced with Edie about old times, county fairs, and then talked about their more recent endeavors. Of seasonal interest, Dan is offering an old-fashioned Christmas Wreath making workshop; there are public workshops at the nursery, and for groups of about 10 or more, Dan will do a private class -- either at the nursery, or wherever the party is.  Materials and instructions are included, and participants will leave with a hand made wreath.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hot off the presses this morning, it's the latest edition of the Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem radio show!  OK so we don't use presses for radio, but you get the idea. Our guest this morning on Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem was Sandi Duncan, who took over the reins as Editor of the Farmers' Almanac a couple of years ago.  This years' edition features some minor changes to reflect Sandi's touch, but as always the Almanac has stories, anecdotes, seasonal and calendar items, and more.  Trivia buffs will especially love this publication -- published annually since the 1800's -- because it's full of fun facts.Sandi spent the hour with us and gave us a glimpse under the curtain for how the book is curated and the thought processes that are behind it.  The 2026 edition went onsite at farmersalmanac.com and on grocery checkout stands everywhere; it's the orange and green one. This podcast edition of the radio show is identical to the original broadcast, minus some of the ads and all of the music.  The show is heard live on Sunday mornings from 9-10 Pacific time on 810 KSFO, and streaming on our website at KSFO.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's officially fall now that we've had the equinox, and Edie Tanem noticed the lingering darkness this morning as she prepped for the live radio show, Bob Tanem In The Garden -- heard on 810 KSFO at 9:00 in the morning each Sunday, including today.  We featured call-ins sprinkled lightly across the hour; Edie had conversations with fellow gardeners all over the state, and local Bay Area gardening events were highlighted. For this on-demand podcast edition, musical bits and most of the advertising have been trimmed out.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Your advice really helps. The site is simple and smart. People should also know that the hori hori knife is a very handy tool for gardening. It is sharp, strong, and useful for digging, cutting, and hori hori knife planting. I like how it helps with many garden tasks. It feels good to hold and makes work easier. A perfect tool for every gardener’s toolkit.
