In this episode, Kevin Lamb talks to Dr Pippa Malmgren, former financial markets advisor to President George W Bush, economist, author, and founder and CEO of H Robotics. Together they discuss the rise of medical tourism and how it will continue to evolve, describe the use of drones as air ambulances to deliver medical supplies in low income countries, warzones and remote locations, and explore the growing research into the medical use of cannabis and whether innovation in drugs can help diabetes patients with pain management.
In this episode, Kevin speaks to Professor Lord Ara Darzi, internationally recognised academic surgeon and independent peer in the UK’s House of Lords. Lord Darzi speaks about the tools, techniques and discoveries driving healthcare’s innovation landscape. Addressing the concern that new robotics technology is creating less capable surgeons, he explains how the ability to train in a virtual world allows skills to flourish. In July 2007, Lord Darzi launched a wide-ranging review of the NHS in England and continues to advocate for better healthcare practices. He believes the balance of power between patients and doctors needs to shift, enabling patients to feel empowered to take back control of their own health.
