The author of Hebrews takes us on a journey through the wilderness, like the Israelites, and asks us to consider what hardens our hearts and challenges our belief. We remember that even in the hot and lonely wilderness, Jesus stands ready to be our brother and high priest.

Playdough that has hardened is no fun to play with, because it is stuck in the shape that it’s in. You can’t make anything out of it. This passage from Hebrews reminds us not to harden our hearts, but to let God shape us into something beautiful… even if that process sometimes feels like being squished!

We explore how Hebrews is a deeply caring pastoral letter, which resolves the troubling questions: Why is God silent when I suffer? Is God really like Jesus? And why are good people persecuted?

As we finish up Chapter 1, we hear the writer of Hebrews make the case that no matter how important these heavenly beings may be, angels don’t hold a candle when compared to the person, role, and status of Jesus Christ. The scriptural chain of support the author presents is encouraging to those who currently follow Jesus, but also serve as a warning to those who don’t or are thinking of walking away from Him.

Paul invited us to reorient our understanding of some of life's most common but also difficult relationships in light of the gospel of Jesus. Children are called to obey, parents to disciple, bondservants to work, and masters to servant hearted authority. Only with Jesus are these things possible.
