This is the twenty-first episode of Six Table Stories. “Six Table Stories” are completely mythical, and all involve the people in a completely mythical small community known as Six Table. All the stories were written by James D. Fischer. Some of the stories began as short plays, some have been wrestled into reading shape from short stories. A few have been published, in small anthologies. The players are a gracious volunteer outfit, the site you’re listening to is put up by the Independence, Kansas Public Library, which continues to be an adventurous outfit whose adventures have been nationally recognized.

In Grandfather We Trust is a story from the book Tales of What May Come, which presents future possibilities: strange new sources of knowledge, coming family issues, future dystopia, new laws and new crimes, and the trend toward educational provincialism. In each story lies a kernel of current truth, or perhaps truth yet to be, or even a warning of what may come.

Playwright and author Octavio Solis received the Distinguished Achievement in the American Theater Award at the Inge Theater Festival in Independence, Kansas in May 2019. On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Octavio Solis and Liz Duffy Adams engaged in a conversation about his career at the Independence Public Library.

Donald Ray Hill became the first player in the history of Independence, KS Little League Baseball to hit an over-the-fence home run when he smashed a three-run blast on July 12, 1954, at Clark James Field. Don was honored in 2019, at the Independence Historical Museum and Arts Center, joining their Baseball Hall of Fame. This is an interview with Don and his wife Vernie.
