Today joining us In The House is Mike McEwen.What’s Happening Around the Curling World?This past weekend a major competition for men was held in Penticton inthe way of the NuFloors Penticton Classic.There aren’t any foreign teams in the eventbut it did feature five of Canada’s best wewill review. The Pan Continental Championshipstarted last Sunday in Lacombe, Alberta andthis is an important event because it qualifiesa number of teams for the 2025 Women’sand Men’s World Championships….Canada isrepresented by Brad Gushue and RachelHoman. Hot Rocks Topics. The Pan ContinentalChampionship started a few days ago and in a couple ofweeks the European Championship will start and inboth cases teams are being qualified for the 2025World Men’s and Women’s Championship. In allprobability the Pan Continental will qualify (six – we willexplain) and the Europeans seven of the 13teams. But at the WC Congress in September athought was put on the table…..is there a better way ofdoing this?So, today we have an email butwe have also gone to our FB Group where someoneasked about the Pan Continental being on televisionand it got 109 comments. In the House today joining us is Matt Dunstone who just won the Fall Classic in Sault Ste. Marie. What’s Happening Around the Curling World? This past weekend a major cashspiel, the Fall Classic was held in Sault Ste. Marie and it featured some of the best teams in the world….we will review the results. The World Mixed Championship (four person mixed) concluded this past weekend in Aberdeen, Scotland and we will tell you about the final results. We received a letter from Phil Drobnick, USA National Team Director who brought to our attention a very unique event being held by USA Curling in the middle of November, We will share with you what Phil brought to our attention, The Pan Continental Championship will start on the 27th in Lacombe, Alberta. This is a pretty important event because it will determine five women’s teams and five men’s teams for the 2025 World Championships. Hot Rocks Topics, for sure curling isn’t getting any faster and more and more emphasis is being placed on all sports to shorten the time span. Does curling need to finally make another change at the top level to speed things up even more? We have a couple of emails to look at today actually one is in a response to the email we read on the show last week from Mike Roeke that we did not interpret correctly. Curling Moments to Remember. The social media world is buzzing today about Brendan Bottcher joining the Brad Gushue Team but some of it is pretty nasty. A major women’s bonspiel happened this past week in Calgary, The Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Classic featuring some of the best female curlers in the world? The Stu Sells Toronto Tankard happened last week and a number of the better world women’s and men’s teams participated and we will give you the final results. The World Curling four-person championship started last weekend in Aberdeen, Scotland and we will take a look at what is happening in Aberdeen. Word came out this week about another curling club having to close it’s doors from financial pressures caused by an equipment malfunction. What’s Happening Around the Curling World?On September 17th and 18 th aninteresting new event took place in Lafayette,Colorado, the Everest North American Curling ClubChampionship. We will review what happened inLafayette and the men’s winner. Dan Sherrardfrom Edmonton will join us to recap his feelingsabout the event. This past weekend in Okotoks, Albertathe ATB Okotoks Classic event was held withmany of the top players on the men’s side of theequation participating and we will take a look atwhat happened in Okotoks. An event took place in Calgary involvingthe Mixed Doubles Super Series with some of thebest mixed doubles teams in the worldinvolved. Also, starting Wednesday, September25 th at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary is thePointsBet Invitational and we will do a review onwhat that event is all about. Hot Rocks Topics…. Inside Curling has made a move into the curling event business with the announcement inJuly of four new events at the Saville Centre inEdmonton that will be known as the ShowDownat the Saville. The events will happen betweenApril 23 rd and May 11 th . We will dig in and reviewexactly what the ShowDown at the Savilleinvolves. The first major event of the season, thePoints Bet Invitational will get underway atCanada Olympic Park (COP) in Calgary onSeptember 25 we will review the field for thatevent. The first Grand Slam of the season, theHearing Life Challenge will start on October 1 st inCharlottetown hasn’t been a lot of news out ofthe Grand Slam so we will review what is or isn’thappening there. Kevin’s Curling Academy has had a busysummer and we will take a look at what’shappening with the Academy.
