In her twenty-two seasons as the head coach of Creighton Women's Volleyball, Kirsten Bernthal-Booth led the Jays from the hinterlands to national prominence. On April 6, 2025, Kirsten stepped down from the head coaching position to become the President of Business Operations for the LOVB Omaha professional franchise. On the same day, Associate Head Coach Brian Rosen was named the Head Coach of Creighton Women's Volleyball. Pat Sullivan was the first Head Coach of the University of Nebraska's women's volleyball team in 1974, 1975, and 1976. She later served as the head women's volleyball coach at George Washington University from 1978 to 1986 and was inducted into the GW Hall of Fame in 1995. Nickie Sanlin is the Director of Volleyball Head Coach for the McKendree University Men's Volleyball Team which she started from scratch in 2014. For ten years she coached both mens and womens volleyball teams at McKendree while also serving as an athletics administrator. This past season McKendree, a Division II school, was the champion of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association with a 13 and 3 record finishing ahead of traditional DI powers Ohio State and Ball State. Penn State head women's volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley and Final Four MVP Jess Mruzik join Terry to discuss a season that would make a great script for a Hallmark Movie. For Penn State to prevail, several things had to happen: They had to learn from regular season losses to Pitt and Wisconsin. Norah Sis and Kendra Wait were All-American volleyball players for Creighton University. Both earned Big East Player of the Year honors and started all four years for the Blue Jays. They are also both playing for the Pro Volleyball Federation in their first season of professional volleyball. Kendra is a setter for the Omaha Supernovas, and Norah is an outside hitter for the Orlando Valkyries. The two former Blue Jays led Creighton to tie for 5th in the recent NCAA Division I National Championship and a win over the defending National Champion Texas Longhorns in the Mideast Regional semifinals. Ray Bechard, the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at the University of Kansas for 27 years, announced his retirement last week. Lisa Reitsma and Nancy Meendering came from the same high school in western Iowa. Nancy followed Lisa to the University of Nebraska, where the two left-handed right-side attackers became three-time All-Americans. They are at the top of Husker volleyball records in kills for an individual season, and both played on teams competing for National Championships. They followed different paths to where they are today, helping raise a family with three kids and sometimes coaching them as well.
