Dallanar killed his wife and a city full of people, then gets a redemption arch, so it seems odd Brandon feels that way about Black Widow's redemption arch.
still hit or miss the last few weeks whether the episode will play or not on castbox. no luck this week (July 31) don't have this issue on other shows on this platform. format issue?
About the movie of I, Robot: I have read from more than one source that they never intended to name the movie that. They were making the movie when they found out that the three laws of robotics were tied specifically to that title and that they would have to pay for the rights to the book in order to use the script they had. so they decided we might as well name the movie after the book since we're paying for it anyways. and that's why it's barely related to the book.
the last two episodes have been unable to play, either streamed or downloaded. Even previous episodes will not work. only this podcast on this service, very odd.
this episode broken on castbox?

I tried to find the billionaire werebear book on Amazon and it appears that there are now two different trilogies by two different authors with this premise 🤣
Brandon. My dude. A quiet place is such a beautiful work that is so much more than the parts that you can predict. The acting is off the charts and both movies are an amazing ride. It hurts me that you don't want to watch it lol.
I like that Brandon said the phrase "I can't afford a console? I'll WRITE then." 😁😁😁
Craig Ferguson (of comedic and late night game) wrote a truly excellent book called "Between the Bridge and the River" where he does an excellent job of showing how a good movie and script can get completely warped by producers and money into something completely different. One of the main characters in the story is a decent actor and an amazing singer who has been on a TV series where he sings at the end of each show and now is looking to get into serious acting. And he realizes that a now infamous serial killer was actually his school bus driver when he was a child. This leads to him getting together with a famous scriptwriter (who is down on his luck) and them coming up with the idea of doing a movie about this serial killer that's a really gritty piece full of intensity and drama. And the movie gets bought and funded. And that's when the producer steps in and decides that his character is going to sing several songs, and his family's going to stop being in the background but instea
Miyazaki explains that the magic system in Spirited Away kiiiinda works like a dream. In that, you do things in a dream and they make sense in the dream. So when Chihiro is crossing the bridge and he's like "hold your breath or they'll know you're a human" and it makes sense in the Spirited Away world.
I feel like the grandmother gets a bit of a bum rap at times. Yes, she puts a lot of pressure on everybody. But I don't feel like people acknowledge how her family has these wonderful magical powers and she absolutely insists that they use them to help the community instead of just helping themselves. She wants her grandaughter to marry the one guy because he comes from a really good family and she thinks he'll be a good match for her granddaughter. I don't think it's about maintaining power or being afraid or anything like that. So I think it's good to acknowledge that she has some good aspects to her character. obviously if she was nothing but evil her family would be a lot worse off than they already are. also a personal little theory of mine: in the song about Bruno the one lady mentions that he predicts her fish is going to die. That seems like an odd thing to do with your powers. I am of the theory that Bruno actually likes the lady and is trying to show off to impress her so he
Solution: disguise Brandon as Robert Jordan for the author cameo! There's companies in Hollywood who make very realistic looking masks of people's faces and as long as you're not in camera for very long or close to the camera 🤔
Y'all told me to skip the last episode if I didn't want to be spoiled so I skip and then you spoil it!
RE: people upset at Dan's books being fantasy. I was working at Hollywood Video (obviously many years ago) when the movie of "Rent" came out. And I had multiple people want a refund because "they didn't know there was going to be so much singing" and it's like... it says "Based on the hit musical" right on the front and the trailer for it is people singing Seasons of Love. 🤦 What more did they want?!?
I feel like Dan isn't doing his share of the work. He should be signing Brandon's books too!!! 😁😁😁😁😁
I think Rotten Tomatoes is on its way out as being any sort of reliable measure of the quality of a film or show. This episode obviously shows some serious flaws with a system. But even before I listened to this I was already of this opinion after the way that "The Rings of Power" has been loudly boasting of being Certified Fresh. It's just super obvious that a lot of pressure was put on the website, critics, and whoever else is needed to to get it Certified Fresh. And it's killed what little credibility Rotten Tomatoes had left with me. It feels like any show or movie that is getting completely panned by the fans tries to fight back by getting themselves Certified Fresh. Their attitude seems to have become "don't listen to every single freind you've got, listen to what juuust enough critics have said about it after we bought them all cars."
it's been a very long time since I've read it but as I recall the basic plot idea behind "Point of Impact" by Stephen Hunter I believe, and then the movie and/or series "Shooter" was that the villains take a sniper and have him assess the president's security and look for any weaknesses in it and then they're actually using him to make a plan for how to kill him with a sniper. Kind of reminded me of their idea of the author being approached by terrorists.
In regards to Brandon getting popular around the time of the MCU, I don't think it's the multiverse factor as much as he thinks it is. As a reader you'll typically know within the first few pages if you'll enjoy an author. In my case it was always the sense of humor/sarcasm, the fact that he doesn't drone on (cough*Steven Erickson*cough), and that he delivers good plot twists with his endings. He is consistently delivering quality in every single book and that is why he continues to gain popularity rather than having it... wax and wane...
Dan is rough to listen to lol.
