In this episode, Huwayda and Karina provide context and an overview of the current lobster dispute in Nova Scotia. Tensions have arisen between non-Indigenous and Mi'kmaq fishers around what constitutes the right to fish for a "moderate livelihood" as affirmed in the landmark Supreme Court of Canada decision in the Marshall case in 1999. There are also unanswered questions about the violation of federal conservation policies, and inaction on the part of the federal government and the RCMP to de-escalate violence against Mi'kmaq fishers.
