Mark Guiser and Bob Banerjee have been around the Pittsburgh Irish music scene for a long time but it's only in the past year or two they joined up. Mark is Me, and Bob is Bobby Magoo. Their set was all Irish. In this photo they were playing Old Dun Cow, and the audience did the call back of Macintyre!!!! very well. We have found musicians are not playing much Irish music in the Irish pubs these days, but these two made sure we had plenty of Irish, and the audience loved it."

BRING IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC TO THE WORLD FOR 20 YEARS On July 28, 2005, I released the very first episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. This was not my first podcast. There were four others that I released first. All of them are still available to this day. Though one podfaded. When I started, I was publishing the Celtic Music Magazine every week. I started podcasting to promote Celtic bands, but mostly I wanted to promote my own band, Brobdingnagian Bards. It was a new and exciting way to get my music heard. But something happened along the way. It became less and less about my band and more about how I could help bands be heard. And it worked. In fact, I featured a total of 79 Celtic bands in the months that followed in 2005. That includes Brobdingnagian Bards and my Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers project. I started my list with three perennial favorites of mine who’ve been on the show for a long time and are still performing: Poitin, Ed Miller, and The Gothard Sisters. Admittedly, The Gothard Sisters were a late addition to the show, coming on in 2010. But of all the bands, they are to me a shining beacon of this podcast. Again email follow@bestcelticmusic Last month, I led my Celtic Invasion of County Wexford. We visited the National 1798 Irish Rebellion Museum. I learned a lot. In the summer of 1798, in the town of Enniscorthy, a spark was lit that echoed across the centuries. Inspired by the ideals of liberty and self - determination that fueled the American and French Revolutions, ordinary Irish men and women rose up against British rule—hoping to shape a freer, more equal Ireland. The United Irishmen, a movement of Protestants and Catholics alike, dreamed of unity. But their rebellion was met with brutal force. The most haunting chapter came to a head on Vinegar Hill, where rebels made their last stand. Though the 1798 Rebellion was crushed, the spirit behind it lived on. It became a quiet current beneath Irish history, resurfacing again in 1916 during the Easter Rising—and carrying through to modern Ireland. Today’s episode features songs and tunes inspired by the 1798 rebellion. These are songs of hope, defiance, heartbreak, and memory. This episode is not about blame. Shel O’Toole emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, I’m finalising a set list for my upcoming concert at Cresfest, a folk and roots festival held in Creswick Victoria Australia each April. Skedaddle, the trio I play in, are doing a short gig on Sunday 16th at the Uniting Church in Buninyong, a village just outside Ballarat.  The focus is songs that reflect Celtic spirituality. Thanks as always for the weekly feast of music. Regards" Patrick Rieger emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, My Saint Patrick's Day observation started a few days early. My family and I were joined by a friend at Mullaney's Harp & FIddle the Wednesday before, thus avoiding the crowds. Our friend John McCann had a solo show that evening, and as always he did a great job. The day of the Holiday was mostly what I had said before, staying home to listen to music and avoiding the madness anywhere it was being celebrated. After my family was done with school and work, we went to the cemetery to visit my mom, who I am named after. She loved Saint Patrick's Day and being of Irish heritage. We lit her memorial candle, which has a green transparent insert, and played a few Irish songs from the music library on my phone. I wish she was here to see all of the ways the family and I are involved in the Irish community.

Ermagerd the Bard wrote about this next song: “The song is what I wrote in response to a real thing that happened to me once upon a time while being a queer medievalist on the internet. I've been involved in the SCA for a couple of decades, and am also openly genderqueer. And this one time one of my recordings was used in a podcast where the theme of the episode was my kingdom, and due to some miscommunication…. there were some misspellings of names and titles of performers and a couple of song titles were incorrect. Well somebody in our kingdom proudly posted the episode in our kingdom's facebook group and said hey, look at our bards, this is cool. And I took it upon myself to comment with a few corrections so people would know who the performers were and what those songs were, and thank the poster for being excited about it. A while back the committee within the SCA that is in charge of registering people's names and titles and such on an international level had been working on finding alternative titles for genderqueer and nonbinary type members so they wouldn't have to use titles like Lord/Lady, and this pertains to me because I'm genderqueer. So in my comment I remarked that my name would be written Ermagerd, Nobilis, and that nobilis wasn't a surname, it's a less gendery Latin form of Lord/Lady and it's the title that describes my awarded status in the SCA. Well this one particular ancient member took a huge offense to the existence of ungendered titles and people, and threw an angry rant into the comments. How dare we harsh her medieval vibe, nonbinary people aren't historically authentic, why does everybody have to shove their gayness down her throat, why can't we pretend "politics" doesn't exist when we're playing medieval dress - up, etc. etc. I never responded to her directly, but I watched as my whole kingdom rose up to defend not just me, but the historical existence of other genders of people, the importance of acceptance in a big - tent international hobby group, the importance of the SCA's core values of chivalry, honor, and courtesy, the years of dedicated research done by the names and titles committee... and all this from people located in Texas and Oklahoma. The consensus was that yes we genderqueer people are historical, there's tons of proof, and people's very lives aren't just "politics", and even if it was jus

Mark Adamczyk emailed from Akron, Ohio: "Mark, Just wanted to reach out to you about the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast.  I found you on Sirius XM last year (March 2024) while recovering from back surgery (herniated a disc last February.  220 V down the left leg  -  that was a TON of fun!!)  Hearing you mention recovering from hip replacement surgery the other week made me feel a certain kinship with you around the podcast.  About 3 weeks after surgery, my wife and I received an invitation to travel to Ireland with our kid's high school band for them to play in the Dublin St Patrick's Day parade.  (Our kids have graduated but I still cover the sports as team physician!)  Having made enough of a recovery to do the walking needed, we made the trip and had an absolute BLAST touring Southern Ireland (Dublin, Kilkenny, Blarney, Killarney [my favorite!!], Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Mohr). When I got back to the States, I started looking around for ways to listen to Celtic music as we thoroughly enjoyed listening to it while on vacation.  I then found your podcast and have been listening somewhat regularly since.  (Summertime tends toward country music for me.  But when the weather gets colder, especially after the holidays, I find myself looking for you again!  I also catch up a bit sitting outside on a weekend morning on our back patio at other times when I get the chance!) We also got a new dog soon after coming home and named him Guinness in honor of the trip!  (We also thought he reminded us a bit of a pint of the brew with his white accents!  Check out his collar!)  When I take him on his daily walks, you are a regular on our playlist!  Me walking my Irish dog and listening to the I&CMP while recovering from back surgery  -  beautiful!!!
