Description

The It’s MY money show is a weekly podcast offering up a fly-on-the-wall opportunity for listeners to eavesdrop on amateur investors Pappa Tony, a sports coach from Belgium, and Dave Labarthe, a financial advisor from Geneva Switzerland, as they discuss their week's trades and outlook for the week ahead. They have a lot of fun, and the show is moderated by experienced business editor, Andrew Mark. The show concept is to help demystify the jargon around investments and offer proof that it is possible, and fun, to manage your own portfolio. They are not trying to sell you anything, and nothing they say should be construed as financial advice or endorsement of any company or stock. Both Pappa Tony and Dave do run successful amateur ‘investors clubs’ in their home towns where they share their knowledge with club members, some in their teens, who are encouraged to learn how to trade in a safe environment before branching out on their own.Listeners are encouraged to leave their investment-related questions in the comments or email them through to the address in the show notes. If time permits these may be discussed and answered in a future show. This show is a great way to understand the complex investment terms bandied about the stock markets. Come join the fun and take control of your own investments. After all, It is YOUR money!

Here’s why having a plan B is important. Dragan Ognjanovic, like all of our listeners, took a severe hit in 2020. Because Dragan had learned how to manage his own options portfolio, he took advantage of a depressed market to buy an Irish pub in his beloved homeland, Serbia. Of course at the time of recording this podcast we are all still in the thick of the fifth wave of the pandemic. Some might say the worst possible time to buy an Irish pub. But because of his experience learned through his investor club, Dragan not only had the cash to buy his dream business, but his profits are also keeping it afloat as he rides out the pandemic. Having a plan B so resilient that one can buy bargains during a depressed market, and have enough profit coming in is the dream right? Not so says investor club champion, Dave Labarthe, “all of my investor club protégés are seeing significantly better results now, in the middle of this pandemic, than they did in 2019”Take a listen to this “It’s My Money!” podcast episode to hear firsthand how Dragan’s ‘Plan B’ came together. Investor Clubs are finding favour with a growing community of investors disillusioned with high fees and poor results. Learning to evaluate and manage their own options in a risk-free environment (a small contribution from each club member is pooled each month and this amount is used to gain live experience on the markets.  Decisions are made democratically by the group under the watchful eye of a mentor). Eventually, when the investor club member feels comfortable enough to leave the coop, they set up their own personal trading accounts and manage their own investments. There are stories of ex-club members enjoying so success on their own that they have retired early or purchased their bucket list businesses. The success of each investor club is partly due to the club mentor having his or her own ‘skin in the game’. Take a listen to this episode of Its My Money to find out more. We want the best for our kids. When it comes to money, the best is not to leave them an inheritance. Or to give in and buy them whatever their hearts desire. The best lesson we can teach our kids is to show them how to invest wisely. And in today's show, Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe have not one, not two, but TEN lessons we should be teaching our kids about money. Take a listen. We hope you enjoy this episode. In this episode Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe share special moments and life lessons. Take a listen to these two dads - and investor club advocates - as they explain how they have been schooled by their kids. Having an open mind as a parent is an incredible asset. And often kids are more in touch with business trends than we give them credit for. Dave and Papa Tony share how they’ve hacked their kids genius and interests and then pivoted this knowledge to make investing fun and interesting for their teens. If there’s one skill set to leave your kids, it should be how to live a life of financial independence. If you’re a mum, or a dad, listen up. Here’s where it gets interesting...We hope you enjoy this episode. Join us this week as I interrogate Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe on their knowledge of trading terms. Do they really know as much as they intimate? Let's find out. My name is Andrew Mark and we look forward to your company. If this is your first time here, The It’s MY Money show is all about private investors managing their own portfolios. Welcome to our 10th episode of It’s MY Money! - this episode is packed full of extra fun. I know, complicated trading options and fun seem incongruous, but these guys are just so passionate about their clubs, and they have a knack of demystifying jargon, and well, it's just hard to keep the grin off their faces. Take a listen. In this episode I promised to give a list of options terminology and so here are some terms you will hear on the show with many more to come in future episodes:Call: An option to buy stock at a set price and by a certain date/time.Put: An option to sell stock at a determined price within a determined period.Expiration date: When the options contract expires. This week Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe talk about investing in Energiser (the battery bunny people, not to be confused with Duracell, who are also the battery bunny people - watch this video after you have listened to the podcast  (https://youtu.be/5pFmkaXiaiM) and they talk about the Peloton (PTON) wobble after product recalls.  Could this make Peloton options trading attractive to the super cautious clubs? What will Dave and Papa Tony decide? Then Dave and Papa Tony dive into the huge lengths investor clubs go to, to protect their members from the markets (and each other!). Join me in this weeks edition of It’s My Money! as I moderate another cool chat between Dave and Papa Tony, asking your questions along the way. My name is Andrew Mark and we look forward to your company. If this is your first time here, The It’s My Money show is all about private investors managing their own portfolios. The skills to do this are taught in the safest way possible, through investor clubs. The premise behind Investor Clubs is simple. By meeting up with like minded folk, participating in a non-threatening, non judgmental club atmosphere, members quickly gain experience in trading options.  Each member contributes  a small amount (usually €100/ month) into the investment pool, and club investment decisions are made democratically. Club profits are re-invested or distributed amongst members. Once club members feel they are ready to leave the nest (each investor’s club actually sets its expiry date at inception) they go off and happily manage their investments, secure in their own knowledge. Its a safe, fun (and social) way to become truly financially independent. If you are interested in joining a club drop me a line on itsmymoneyshow@gmail.com with your details, and I’ll connect you with either Dave or Papa Tony directly. Enjoy the show! I Want To Break Free!

In this week’s ‘It’s My Money’ show we ask our panel the hardest question of all: “how much, and for how long, must I be in the game until I am making enough  residual income from my portfolio to fire my boss and retire?’The answer to that question may surprise a lot of people. We also discuss the booming pet pharma business and how Blackberry, that clunky brand many people still think of as a mobile phone company, is actually easing ahead of the competition in its new niche. Blackberry is cleaning up in the EV and digital automotive product space. Here’s why Dave and Papa Tony think that’s important. Welcome to The Club!

Welcome to The Club!

2021-08-1628:11

This week we dive a little deeper into investor’s clubs. What they are, how they work, and what risks are involved. Turns out that not only is the shared club experience great for learning how to manage YOUR own money on the markets, it’s also a cool way to meet interesting people whose interests are aligned with yours. Oh, and as Papa Tony politely puts it, having group support during those tough trading days when you’re second-guessing yourself is a big help in bolstering your ‘intestinal fortitude’ - a necessary skill to learn in the heat of the moment, you know when markets are 'rollercoasting' and you’re tempted to jump ship. Also in this episode, we kick around the idea of an in-person training week in Malta. Because that’s where Papa Tony’s heart is, and there are beautiful beaches and great weather. And so why not Malta? Take a listen to this weeks It’s MY money! show: it’s a goodie. If you enjoy this episode, please share it with someone you care about? In this weeks episode of ‘it’s MY money!’ I catch up with Papa Tony who is still in Malta, and Dave Labarthe, who has not yet taken time off this summer, and is still enjoying the brilliant Geneva weather. As usual we get a birds eye view of their thinking around what’s hot and what’s not in the markets, but I also ask some questions around their investor’s clubs. This podcast is not about trying to sell you anything, nor should it be construed as financial advice. It does give us an insight into how perfectly normal folk can get their heads around derivatives trading and manage their own portfolios with surprisingly profitable results. If you’ve wanted to understand the inner workings of the markets and perhaps have fun making money for yourself, take a listen. We’ll be chatting about investor’s clubs where enthusiasts club together, each contributing a nominal investment (Dave’s Geneva-based club members each put in just $100 each month). Club members then work together to analyze companies and make their calls in a safe environment until they’re ready to branch out and do it for themselves. Under Pressure!

Under Pressure!

2021-08-0250:12

Welcome to this week's show. In It’s My Money! I put two ordinary investors under pressure, so we can learn how they go about analyzing a prospective company before they invest. I also ask Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe to answer a reader's questions and we hear how sometimes well-performing companies are just too expensive for derivatives traders. Take a listen as Papa Tony and Dave allow us a glimpse of what happens inside the engine room of their investors' clubs. If you enjoy this episode, please share it with someone you care about? The Week that was with the It’s My Money Show hosts: Papa Tony and Dave Labarthe. Activist Investor’s try gaming the system, youngsters and grandpas doing it for themselves, and is this the most fun you can have while making money? In this episode of It’s My Money! we chat about activist investors shorting their noses to spite their faces. I ask Dave and Papa Tony about their wins for the week and we also hear about their youngest - and oldest - investor club members. The chat gets interesting when Papa Tony explains why he prefers the flexibility derivatives give him and how, despite knowing better, he still has to quell emotions when it comes to betting on brands he has an affinity for.  Dave can hardly keep the passion out of his voice as he explains a little about the rules his investor clubs follow, and why the clubs continue to beat the odds. Join us as we take a romp through the markets this week and hear what Dave and Papa Tony have been up to over the last week of trades. Take a listen to two amateur investors, one based in Belgium and the other in Geneva Switzerland as they discuss their weekly trades and the wins (sometimes losses when the rules aren't being followed) that affect their portfolios and what is happening amongst the members of their investor clubs. In this episode, one of Dave Labarthe’s Geneva-based clubs just smashed through the $100k value ceiling. Not too shabby when the 10 odd club members contribute just $100/month to practice investing before venturing out into the real world. To keep things real and to moderate the questions is business editor Andrew Mark. This is not investment advice. This is a chance to eavesdrop on two likeable amateur investors who have turned their passion for the markets into an opportunity for others to learn. Listener questions are welcomed at itsmymoneyshow@gmail.com or leave them in the comments below. Be sure to follow the show so you don't miss a single episode.
