Episode 20: Thank You

2023-09-1745:43

Well here we are at the last episode. Supertramp attempted to end with Famous Last Words. Pink Floyd tried to end with The Final Cut. Cream did end with Goodbye. Me, I'm going to end with Thank You.
So for this episode we...ok I...am going to do a workout known as Mind of the Marathoner. Not totally named well as I am running a half marathon in a week but there you go. This workout requires you to run three miles and each is one min/mile faster than the last one. Will I ba able to record the whole way through? Only one way to find out. Enjoy!
This episode is a run on a spectacularly nice day.
This is an episode about transitions. Life it full of them. There are few that have become front and center and that is what I will be discussing on this run. Enjoy!
Today's run is a barometer on my fitness to date. Need to assess where I am physically in order to see if my goal for the Bird in Hand half marathon is practical. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Only 5 short weeks until race day at the Bird in Hand half marathon. Training is going....well rather than tell you here, just listen. Enjoy!

Episode 14: Get da funk out

Well believe it or not....I have another episode. This episode has finally made it to the podcast after being recorded and re-recorded several times. A bit has happened since we last chatted so pardon the slightly longer episode. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! In this episode I've had an epiphany. That's a big idea for those of you playing in Solvay. I think I figured out the proper way to run a Magic Mile. Don't know what Magic Mile is? That's a great reason to listen to this episode! Always wondered if you should run the Magic Mile straight through or take walk breaks? That's a great reason to listen to this episode! Want to hear JD admit he was wro....that he was wro...wro...less right? That's a great reason to listen to this episode! Enjoy! ...
Howdy! Well it's time for another episode! Today was all about the joy of running. Seriously that was what was on my training plan. I was to do an easy 5 miler as a celebration of running. Choose your own pace. Choose your ratio and just Go! It's harvest season here for the spring hay so I ran past a field of large round hay bales that always remind me of the large granite stones strewn about on Solsbury plain in England, otherwise know as Stonehenge. Since I was looking at grass and not granite my eyes beheld....Farmhenge. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! If you're old enough to get the title reference you are cool and/or a Gen-Xer. But who are we kidding? You're here so we know you're cool! This episode will be about the 2023 St. Micheal's Running Festival. Most specifically about the half marathon I just completed. This was my first time at this event and I can tell you now that very well may return in a future year! I'll plan to stay in town for the weekend next time though. More on that in the podcast so let's get to it, shall we? Enjoy! If you're interested to know more about this race click the link https://www.runstm.com/
Howdy folks! Once again I've come up with a posttest that doesn't have an obvious catchy title. As I mentioned previously, when I get stumped for a title I will choose an odd, and likely obscure, song title. Today's title comes from the 1977 Genesis album Wind and Wuthering....and yes, if you're not a Genesis fan you've likely never heard of this album. This was a the album after A Trick of the Tale (1976) and before ...and then there were three (1978). Wot Gorilla? is the last song on side A of Wind and Wuthering. This is also the last Genesis album to feature Steve Hackett on guitar. As a prog rock fan Genesis was one of my favorites although Genesis stopped being prog and moved into pop after Abacab (1981). What does this have to do with a podcast on running? Absolutely nothing. Which is kind of the point. Anyway, today I chat about my training plan and preparations for my next half marathon in St. Michael's Maryland. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! In this episode I talk to you a little about my new training plan and also about the Turkey Hill Country Classic. We had lovely weather for a long run. You might even say perfect. Ok let's say it. It was perfect weather for a long run. Good thing too because a long run it was. Have a listen and I'll tell you why. Enjoy! Howdy folks! Well I have another jam packed episode for you this time. Lot's of topics and closing with the annual Nun Run 5K in Reading, PA. This is a favorite of mine simply because it's a challenge, it's all hills, and my wife and I love supporting the sisters who put this on. Almost 45 min of content so let's get to the good stuff, shall we? Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Well it's done. I signed up for Customized Training today. This will be either my third or fourth time using this training method. Rather than give the store away in the description let's get to the content! Enjoy! For those interested in joining Customized Training you can access it at this link http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/customized-training/
Howdy folks! Back again with another episode! Thank you to everyone who has downloaded this and previous episodes! In this episode we have a chat about what to do when the weather suddenly skips two months and goes from early spring straight into early summer. There is more discussion of my current training, my plans to sign up again for coaching with Chris Twiggs, intermittent fasting and some other odds and ends. But enough chit-chat. On with the episode! Enjoy.
Howdy folks! This time I have a gear review for you. I recently bought a Coros Pace 2 to replace my Garmin fenix 5 that refuses to take a realistic HR from my wrist. I've had the Garmin fenix 5 for four years now and it's been a good watch. Not flinging poo on Garmin, let's just get that straight. That said for $400 there are things I wish it did better. The Coros Pace 2 currently costs $199 so would I get what I was looking for or would I just get a watch that was $201 "cheaper"? Let's find out! Links you might like: Garmin fenix 5 vs Coros Pace 2 Coros Pace 2 Just a reminder that the links were accurate when I posted them. I don't control these websites so if they make changes there's not much I can do. If the links are broke and you want to pay me to fix them I'm sure we can work something out. ;-)
Howdy folks! We have a bit of everything in this one. Some running updates, a chat on clothing, some foreign languages and some math. Enjoy!
I run, therefore I am. Well that's not the philosophy I am talking about. This episode I discuss my philosophy to training and why I like to combine the best aspects of three major running philosophies. They are "run 'til you're done", heart rate training and Jeff Galloway's run/walk/run method. I've included links to examples of each of these philosophies in the description below. Enjoy! Well that was weird? I uploaded this once and the name, description and poll I set up evaporated. This gave me the idea to change the name. This was called The Morning After. I know, Bor-ing! After this upload as an untitled episode I got the inspiration for the current title. I like this one better. Anyway this is a debriefing of my virtual JG 13.1 race on 3/19/23/ Enjoy!
Welcome to a brand new podcast! Ok, it's not exactly brand new. This podcast follows the exploits of the host, JD, as he trains and runs in various races and events. We will cover all aspects of the "running journey", hence the name. Previously, I had some health issues so this is actually a restart of a podcast that I founded last year. Fingers crossed the health issues are behind us and we can focus on the good stuff! Enjoy! Special thanks to Jayne Jones for lending me her voice at the start of every podcast!
