This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge of 29-06-2025 in which we are given two samples and invite to incorporate them into an original track. This month the samples are :- Sample 1 - Guitar chords in G minor Sample 2 - Lofi Rhodes piano in G minor (or B flat major) I used sample 1 as a rhythmic element throughout the track, pitching it down two semi-tones. I put sample 2 into Ableton's Simpler and played a melody with it, then created two additional melodies for the breakdown. and the second half of the track.

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge for May 2025 in which participants are given some samples and asked to incorporate them into an original track. This month's samples are from the Ableton May newsletter's featured artist quickly, quickly and are called entertheroom, loopme & urfreakingmeout entertheroom I used the first part of the sample as a riser at various places in the track. loopme I converted the melody to a new midi then used that melody with a Serum patch to create one of the lead instruments urfreakingmeout I used in both breakdowns as a drone sound and also at the end of musical phrases.

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge of 23rd March 2025 in which participants are given two or three samples with the challenge of including them in an original track. This month's samples provided by Gary Frank (aka Gairaigo) Beats - A collection of percussion sounds - starts with a showcase of each sound, then a few bars of them arranged in a pattern. Some of these sounds are cut from DSI Mopho samples. Hi hat sample based on a noise patch from ANA 2 VST synth. Kick is a couple of sounds layered together. Reverse Pad - started as a standard Pad in ANA 2, added some mid range saturation and distortion, Soundtoys Crystalliser “great doubler” effect, and Ableton Echo (ethereal canyon) for flavour. I used the Reverse Pad in the intro as part of the build up and in both breakdowns. I used the percussion sounds in the second breakdown to add tension, automating the EQ frequency and applying Saturation & Overdrive plus a little Reverb. I also put each percussion sound into a drum rack and then used them as ear candy throughout the track.

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge for 16th Feb 2025 in which participants are given three samples and the challenge id to incrporate those samples into a new piece of music, any genre. This time the samples are from Senor Picante and comprise:- Sample 1 - Synth Pad Sample 2 - Glitchy Drums Sample 3 - Rolling Snares I incorporated all three samples in the two breakdowns and in addition I sliced the Rolling Snares to midi and made separate hits from them which I used as fills at various points un the track.e.g 1:20 & 2:50. I wanted to do a lot more with them and create fill patterns and extra percussion from the Glitchy Drums too but I haven't had time. I also used the Synth Pad as an added ambience sound which plays throughout the track. (edited)

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge of 27-10-2024 in which participants are given two or three samples and are challenged to make an original track (any genre) utilising the samples. This month the samples were provided by Increment and are:- Sample 1 - Bass Thump (a one shot could be a nice kick or bass). Sample 2 - Delayed old creaky door - a little creepy but Halloween is upon us. Sample 3 - Vocal_nightcall_C - another unsettling sound is in in the key of C. For Sample 1, the Bass Thump, I put it in Ableton's Simpler, came up with a simple melody (F-F-F-A#) and played it throughout the track as part of the bass sound design. For Sample 2, the old creaky door, I chopped this and used it to create a creepy atmosphere for the trackin the main breakdown and from around 3:20. I also used the sample as is in the main brreakdown at 2:20, at 3:25 and in the second breakdown, at 3:50. For Sample 3, the vocal nightcall, I put this into Simpler and played a brief rhythmic phrase, which you can hear from 1:20 and then again from 2:25.
