Description

Hi. I'm Daniel. When I'm not doing comedy, I like talking to interesting people and eating food. I decided to combine those two things and make this podcast, which I called Jalapeño Business ('cause you know, food... and puns.) Every episode, my guest brings in a dish that reminds them of their childhood and/or culture. We eat it, talk about it, and the conversation goes from there. I hope you have as good of a time listening as I do doing it. And if you're worried about it, we eat away from the microphone and avoid smacking our food at all costs, so you're good!

Episode 02: Francisco Ramos

Episode 02: Francisco Ramos

2018-12-2601:11:19

On today's episode, I sit down with comedian, writer, actor and host, Francisco Ramos. He recently did a special on HBO called “Entre Nos” that aired in 2018. He was a top 10 finalist on Last Comic Standing and has acted on “Shameless”, “Angie Tribeca” “Lady Dynamite”, and voiced the role of Marmoset in the animated film “RIO.” I’ve known Francisco since when I first started doing stand up. But as is the case, he was someone I always saw around and said hello to, but we never really got to know each other. But on this episode, we did just that. Starting off with some delicious arepas, we quickly went into talking about his experience immigrating to America from Venezuela when he was 13 and how self help books guided him in the transition from working in finance to stand up. By the end, we discovered that we have similar philosophies on the way we see the world and attack it accordingly.
Episode 01: Sammy Obeid

Episode 01: Sammy Obeid

2018-12-1801:03:57

On today’s episode, I sit down with comedian, writer, actor and host, Sammy Obeid. He’s been on America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing, and Conan. I’ve known Sammy for years, having run in some of the same comedic circles. Needless to say, he has always been one of my favorites. He’s a ridiculously intelligent guy and a has a brand of comedy to match. Our conversation today started with lentil soup, which ended up being a metaphor for happiness and life itself and took off from there. In the episode, we touch on everything from his experience growing up with hippie immigrant parents in the Bay Area, studying applied mathematics at Berkeley, and becoming a tutor before eventually transitioning into stand up comedy. And upon doing so, dedicated himself to down a show everyday for 1001 days straight, during which he faced an existential crisis of sorts that simultaneously left him on the verge of quitting stand up only to find happiness once again.
