After Willoughby rescues Marianne from her sprained ankle on the moor, the two quickly become inseparable. They have so much in common: music, dance, books, poetry, not to mention his wonderfully good looks. Marianne is sure that Willoughby is everything she has ever wanted in a man, and even Mrs. Dashwood is enchanted by him. Elinor, though, is more cautious. In fact, she is convinced that Colonel Brandon may be developing an attachment to her sister, even though Marianne is decidedly uninterested. Willoughby is a charmer, and as he delights the Dashwoods, let his smooth words help lull you into a night of gentle and relaxing sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! The Dashwoods are growing more comfortable in Devonshire, and one of their many employments is enjoying the many beautiful walks in the surrounding countryside. It is during one of these beautiful walks that Marianne and Margaret find themselves caught in the rain, and while running back down the hill to their cottage, Marianne finds herself taken down by a sprained ankle. Luckily for her, there's a handsome gentleman who happens to be nearby to carry her home, the dashing Mr. Willoughby. Could there be a more romantic way to make the acquaintance of a handsome young man? Marianne thinks not. As she swoons over her elegant rescuer, let her reflections carry you into another night of warm and peaceful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Freshly arrived in Devonshire, the Dashwoods are off to dine at Barton Park and meet the rest of their new neighborhood acquaintances. There's Lady Middleton's teasing and slightly vulgar mother-in-law, Mrs. Jennings, and Sir John's quiet friend, Colonel Brandon. Mrs. Jennings, who is fond of pairing people up, is soon convinced that Colonel Brandon is in love with Marianne, but she's having none of it. Colonel Brandon is 35, and Marianne is convinced that at his stage of life, all that's left is infirmity, since he's too old for romance. With their social circle growing, the Dashwoods are settling into their new home, and as they do, let them help you settle into your bed for a night of soft and peaceful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It's been decided: the Dashwoods are relocating to Devonshire. They have decided to take up their cousin Sir John Middleton's offer to take up residence in Barton Cottage, and soon set off from Norland to make their way to their new home. The cottage is smaller than they are used to, but Mrs. Dashwood is full of ideas to make it more homey (if she can save the money for it). They also make the acquaintance of their landlord Sir John, who is boisterous, and his wife Lady Middleton, who is elegant. It's a big transition for the Dashwoods, but they are making the best of it. As they do, let their story help you as you embark on your own transition from a busy day into a night of gentle and relaxing sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Elinor and Edward's relationship is growing closer, but they are not actually engaged, much to Marianne's surprise. In fact, Elinor herself isn't sure of the degree of Edward's attachment to her. But the attachment is enough to catch the eye of Fanny Dashwood, who makes it clear in no uncertain terms that her family has high hopes for her brother's marriage - hopes that don't include Elinor Dashwood. Luckily for them, a letter has just arrived from one of Mrs. Dashwood's relations, inviting them to take up residence at his cottage in Devonshire. It's the perfect time for the family to make a move, and as they do, let their story move you along into a night of soft and relaxing sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! The Dashwoods remain at Norland while they search for a place that will fit their new financial situation. Living with Fanny Dashwood is not pleasant, but there is one bright spot: her brother, Edward Ferrars. He has been staying with the family at Norland, and by all accounts to be forming an attachment with Elinor - she esteems him, which is high praise. Marianne finds Edward lacking in his understanding of art and literature, but their mother is pleased that her eldest daughter has found love. As Elinor and Edward's attachment grows, let it help you relax as you drift into another night of restorative slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Mr. John Dashwood is still determined to help his sisters after the tragic early death of their father. But his wife, Mrs. Fanny Dashwood, has a few questions. After all, how much money do four single women really need? And surely Mr. Dashwood's deathbed promise to his father didn't mean financial support to his sisters? What if their own child were to ever need the money? It's all sounding very logical to Mr. John Dashwood, and he is grateful to have such a clear-headed wife to guide him. As he plans for the future, let his considerations help relax you and take you into an evening of soft and peaceful slumber. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It's time to get acquainted with our new protagonists: the Dashwoods. Long settled at Norland Park in Sussex, the family is shaken up by the unexpected death of patriarch Mr. Henry Dashwood, leaving the estate in the hands of his well-to-do son from his first marriage, Mr. John Dashwood. His second wife and their three daughters are left with little. The two eldest daughters, Elinor and Marianne, handle their grief very differently - Elinor, full of sense, keeps her emotions in check, while Marianne, led by sensibility, feels deeply without restraint. With the death of their father, the stage is set for their lives to change dramatically. As their story begins, settle in with our newest novel and let it carry you away from your day and into another night of gentle and restorative sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It's a new morning and Anne is with the Musgroves, this time in the company of Mrs. Croft, Captain Harville, and Captain Wentworth. While Anne and Captain Harville have a lively conversation about whether men or women are more constant in love, Captain Wentworth is occupied with intensely writing a letter in the corner of the room. As the two men depart, Anne is amazed to find that the letter Captain Wentworth has been writing is to her, and it is declaring the constancy of his love for her. Captain Wentworth may be half agony, half hope, but you will be all relaxation, as this week's story helps you into a night of constant and peaceful sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne joins Charles and Mary in going to meet the Musgroves, happy to feel the familial warmth from them that she so sorely misses at home. Their hotel is full of hustle and bustle, with guests coming and going, including Captain Wentworth. Anne's wish of conversing with him is cut short by Mary spotting Mrs. Clay and Mr. Elliot together outside, which puzzles Anne, as Mr. Elliot was supposed to be out of town. But the thought is soon replaced by a more pressing one, as Elizabeth invites them all to a party at the Elliot home tomorrow night, and all Anne can think about is whether Captain Wentworth will attend. Anne and Captain Wentworth are finally getting closer once again, and as they do, let them help you get closer to a peaceful night of warm and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne is still reeling from learning the truth about Mr. Elliot, and is relieved to find that she's missed his visit, and that he has left town for two days. His departure will give her time to confer with Lady Russell about what she's learned. But before she can call on Lady Russell, the Elliots receive a call from some unexpected visitors: Charles and Mary Musgrove are in Bath. Anne is genuinely happy to see them, and to catch up with Charles about how his two sisters are doing. Both are headed towards marriage - Henrietta with Charles Hayter, and Louisa with Captain Benwick. It's a welcome happy distraction from the sordid business with Mr. Elliot. As Anne and her family welcome the Musgroves, let their story help you welcome an evening filled with peaceful slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne's visit with Mrs. Smith continues, and so do Mrs. Smith's revelations about the truth of Mr. Elliot's character. The Smiths were acquainted with Mr. Elliot long before this current moment in Bath, and that means that Mrs. Smith knows much more than Anne realized. Behind Mr. Elliot's friendliness, there is calculation, cunning, and trickery, with a bit of being a spendthrift to boot. Anne knew there was more to Mr. Elliot than met the eye, but the extent of it all astounds her. As she processes these new discoveries, let her story help you process your day and move into a night of restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! After reconnecting with Captain Wentworth at the concert, Anne is on cloud nine. But things are about to turn in a very different direction, thanks to some revelations from Anne's old friend Mrs. Smith. You see, Mrs. Smith has heard through the grapevine that Anne and Mr. Elliot are getting close - but once she realizes that Anne has no intention of marrying Mr. Elliot, Mrs. Smith is compelled to reveal the truth about her acquaintance with him. It's a truth so long and sordid that today's story is only the first half of the tale. Pull up your covers and rest your head on your pillow as you let Mrs. Smith's revelations fill your mind and help you into a night of gentle and relaxing slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! It’s concert night, and it seems like all of Bath is there to see and be seen. But there’s just one person’s whose presence matters to Anne: Captain Wentworth. They meet before the concert begins, and Anne immediately senses a change that can only mean one thing. But before their connection can grow deeper once more, Mr. Elliot inserts himself into the conversation with unfortunate results. As Anne tries to make sense of her new dynamics, let her story help you make sense of your day and move into a night of quiet and peaceful sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Captain Wentworth is in Bath. There's plenty of things going on around Anne, but this is the only thing that matters, and the only one that she can think about. After running into Captain Wentworth at a shop, Anne's mind is full of thoughts of him - When will she see him in Bath? How has he changed since Uppercross and Louisa Musgrove? How will Lady Russell react when she sees him again? Will he be at the upcoming concert evening? Now that Anne and Captain Wentworth are in proximity once more, she can't help but think of him, and as she does, let her thoughts soothe your mind and ease you into a night of restful slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne has been in Bath for a month, and is missing news from her family and friends at Uppercross. Luckily, a letter has arrived from Mary with big news: Louisa Musgrove and Captain Benwick are engaged! Anne can scarcely believe it. Moreover, the letter arrives with compliments from Admiral and Mrs. Croft. That's right, the Crofts are in Bath, and that means that Captain Wentworth is soon to follow. Just when Anne was getting comfortable, her surroundings are unsettled again. Luckily for you, her story of unsettledness is just the thing to help you get more settled, as you snuggle under your covers and into a night of gentle sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Anne continues to acquaint herself with the ins and outs of daily life and society in Bath, which involves relations both old and new. When the Dowager Viscountess Dalrymple, a distant cousin, arrives in Bath, Anne for once wishes her father and sister had more pride, as they bend over backwards to make her acquaintance. At least she seemingly has a like-minded friend in Mr. Elliot, although Anne still harbors some suspicion about his motives. Nevertheless, he is her pleasantest acquaintance in Bath, and she'll take what she can. Anne is doing her best to make the most of Bath, and as she does, let her efforts help you make the most of your night with deep and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Just a comment about the illustration of Jane Austen in your podcast thumbnail ... why did you give Jane an all brown nose? She looks like a scarecrow! I laugh every time I look at it. Poor Jane. 🤭 On the other hand, the podcast is great. I fall asleep immediately when listening to one of the episodes. Thank you for that ... good job!
