A lot of people are asking "When is this going to be over?" "When are things going to go back to normal?" "What do we do when things are so uncertain?" That's exactly what we wrestle with today.

It's literally an epic story, and for good reason...Lord of the Rings can teach us a lot about life and how to change. What we'll talk about today is how the hero and protagonist of the story usually has some pretty big blindspots that keep them from succeeding early in the story. A part of fixing this problem is the scientific method, and it's also keystone habits. Listen in to learn how Frodo, Samwise and Gandalf can help you make changes to your life!
We all tell ourselves stories about ourselves. Our internal monologue is constantly reinforcing what we already believe to be true about ourselves, even it if's not true. In this episode I give you some really practical techniques you can use to help your mind believe the story about you that is actually true.
We've covered a lot of material and you may be wondering, when will we ever begin? The answer is now! As with most stories, there is a lot of groundwork that has to take place before the inciting incident. But, since we have kicked things off with the moment we created in the last episode, now is when the journey begins. Just like any journey, it feels like we don't know what we're doing. That's okay. We'll figure it out along the way. The point is, let's begin. We'll also talk about what we specifically need to do to CAPTURE the future we have always dreamed of for ourselves.
Every story has one. Without one, there's nothing to interrupt normal life and send the protagonist on a journey. The same is true for us on any transformative journey. If we want to change, we have to have an inciting incident, a point of no return. It's a moment where we must decide if we are going to keep with the status quo or if we are going leave our old life behind to pursue a new one. In this episode we talk about creating that moment and who we have to create it with.
This is perhaps the most overlooked critical component of changing anything in your life. For example: 99% of people who want to lose weight know how to lose weight: eat less, exercise more. Maybe 50% of people who want to lose weight go as far as finding the right people, (A guide, a sidekick and a squad) to help them on their journey. But a very small percentage, maybe less than 10% actually go so far as to change their environment. But, this storyworld that we live in is a part of the system that is giving us the results we are frustrated with. If we don't change the storyworld, we won't be successful in changing ourselves. But those few, the 10% or less who get all three working in their favor, well, they are the one who succeed in lasting transformation.
We've talked briefly about how the people we surround ourselves with have an impact on our ability to change. Today, we get a little deeper into the people that are going to help us on the journey to transformation, and we're going to take a look at the people who might try to derail our journey.
We aren't just living a story, we are telling ourselves a story about ourselves. We probably have a villain and likely have positioned ourselves as a victim in some way. This story we have been telling ourselves has led us to this point in our lives. If we want to be someone different than we are right now, we have to start telling ourselves a new story.
In this episode, we're going to talk about that one thing you absolutely must do if you want to change. Without this, you may as well never even begin the process because you're just going to get frustrated when you fail. So, what is this one thing? Listen in to find out!
As we continue through our discussion of the science behind transformation, we talk about the effect our self talk has on our ability to change as well as the underlying beliefs that drive that talk. We may be sabotaging ourselves without even knowing it.
Do you know those older people who can't remember anything, but if you start singing a hymn, they can sing right along with you? How does that happen? People say habits form in 20 days and 40 days, but is that really how long it takes? Or is there more to it than that? And isn't following Jesus supposed to be more "organic" than that?
Last week we talked about the 3 core components of discipleship or any kind of transformation, content, context & community. Today we are going to look at the formula for transformation. You might be asking, "Formula? You think there's a formula for transformation?" Yes, I actually do. And I'm going to share it with you today for free. Yes for free! Just giving it away. This is years and years of research combined into one simple, easy to remember formula and I'm just giving it to you for free. Crazy, I know. But, hey, I'm more interested in helping you change than I am in money so, here you go!
In this week's episode of The Jesus Habit Podcast, we are going to start getting into the science of transformation. What are the core components necessary to become like Christ? Is it simply about knowing enough of the right information or is there more than that? I invite you to listen to discover what might be missing from your transformation journey.
