Ever wondered what it’s really like to take a jewellery diploma? In this week's episode, host Jessica Rose sits down with this year’s Jewellers Academy Diploma Diarists - Tori Foster, Jane Taylor, and Emma René to talk about their experiences studying, teaching, and creating jewellery as part of the Jewellers Academy Diploma programs.   The Diploma Diaries is an Instagram initiative where selected students and tutors share their year-long journeys with the wider jewellery-making community. This year’s diarists represent three different perspectives:   Tori Foster, a jewellery business owner and teacher from Yorkshire, is taking on her fourth diploma, this time in Silver Metal Clay. She shares what it’s like starting new projects, finding inspiration, and staying motivated week by week. Follow Tori on Instagram @torifosterjewellery Jane Taylor, a jeweller and tutor since 2001, gives us the inside scoop on the Fine Jewellery Diploma from a mentor’s perspective. She opens up about experimenting with new techniques, sharing failures as well as wins, and why pushing yourself creatively is so valuable. Follow Jane on Instagram @jewelledgodalming Emma René, founder of Narratorium and part of the Jewellers Academy team, reveals how she balances family life, work, and study while diving deep into the Fine Jewellery diploma. She talks about time management, filming her progress, and why embracing mistakes can be as powerful as celebrating success. Follow Emma on Instagram @narratorium   And make sure you're following @jewellersacademy as we will be sharing them too!   Together, they explore the joys and challenges of jewellery-making education - from learning complex settings and techniques to overcoming setbacks, managing time, and putting themselves out there online. Their stories remind us that becoming a jeweller is about progress, not perfection. In this week's episode of the Jewellers Academy Podcast, Jessica Rose talks with jeweller and community member Iain Sainsbury to explore his journey through the Advanced Stone Setting Masterclasses program, an advanced training series designed for jewellers ready to refine their fine jewellery and stone-setting skills.   Iain shares how he discovered jewellery-making after career burnout, and why the Masterclasses became the perfect next step in his learning. From tackling the challenges of piercing and decorative collets with Anelia Kuprina, to pushing his stone-setting skills further with Scott McIntyre, and making tiara wedding rings with April Dace, Iain reflects on the breakthroughs, struggles, and valuable lessons he’s learnt along the way.   This conversation highlights not just the technical skills taught in the program, but also the importance of community, accountability, and feedback in the learning journey. Iain talks about his philosophy of 'slow making,' the benefits of creating prototypes, and how he has been able to transfer his new skills into his own sand-casting practice.   Whether you’re curious about the Masterclasses, looking for inspiration to challenge yourself, or eager to hear from a fellow jeweller’s perspective, this episode offers insights, encouragement, and practical takeaways.   Enrolment is now open for the Jewellers Masterclasses. COMPARISON: FRIEND OR FOE? In this week’s episode of the Jewellers Academy Podcast, host Anna Campbell sits down with writer, storyteller, and trauma-informed artist and educator Heidi Hinda Chadwick to tackle a challenge every creative and entrepreneur faces: comparison. They explore the double-edged sword of comparison in the age of social media — how it can fuel inspiration, but also leave us feeling “not enough.” Anna and Heidi share personal stories and practical tools to help you shift your perspective and keep your creativity alive. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER: Why comparison is so powerful in today’s hyper-connected world, and how to know when it’s serving you versus when it’s draining you. How to use jealousy as a “treasure map” to uncover what you really want in your creative or business journey. Why there’s no single path to success, and how collaboration and community can replace competition. How to ground yourself in your own growth and celebrate progress, instead of relying on external validation. This week on the Jewellers Academy podcast, Anna Campbell is in conversation with Lynn Powell. Anna is the founder and tutor for Jewellery School Scotland, teaching sell-out jewellery workshops in Edinburgh. Lynn Powell is the founder of the Arienas Collective, a creative workshop hub in Edinburgh. The collective was set up to help local artists and makers make a living doing what they love. Anna teaches her workshops exclusively with the Arienas Collective and they regularly sell out months in advance. The Arienas Collective recently curated an exhibition called Love or Money, which explored how artists make money. As part of that exhibition to support artists and makers, they did a talk on selling out workshops. This was a popular talk and so they have brought it to the podcast. This is more of a masterclass than a podcast with so many great insights shared for anyone running creative workshops. A summary of their top 10 tips for selling out jewellery workshops: 1. Location is important - consider good transport links or ample parking 2. Beware of being in competition with yourself in one area. Pick a location to teach  3. Make sure your location is clear in your social media and on your website. People will Google for jewellery workshops + location and that helps you show up in the Google ranking  4. Teach something that you can't find very widely - a type/style of jewellery making or project  5. Have a choice of dates available but not too many, you can always add more 6.  Have an intermediate/next level courses available for those who want to do more 7. Offer gift vouchers and sell creative experiences 8. Try different things. What works really well one year may not the next year, and what didn't sell at all might suddenly start selling 9. Try listing on places that people look for craft workshops e.g. Craft Bento and Craft Courses 10. Keep going. It can take time for the reputation to build and for word of mouth to happen    Whether you're a jeweller, maker, or creative entrepreneur, this episode is packed with practical, proven advice. If you want to fill your classes and grow your teaching income with confidence and clarity, this episode is a must-listen. In this week’s episode, host Kim Thompson sits down with Alice from the Museum of Alternative Jewellery to explore the wonderfully imaginative world of non-traditional jewellery making. When I'm not writing under the name The Museum of Alternative Jewellery, I spend my time fixing, photographing, researching and selling vintage and antique costume pieces. It is my goal to shine a spotlight onto obscure techniques, non-traditional materials and makers that I feel have been underappreciated, with the occasional deep dive into our personal and cultural attitudes about jewellery and the conflicting narratives around ‘preciousness’. I deeply believe that jewellery is FIRST and foremost an art form; and The Museum of Alternative Jewellery is here to celebrate that fact! In this inspiring episode, Jess and Anna talk all things ambition, fear, and taking bold steps toward your creative future. Together, they dive into the transformative potential of the Jewellery Diploma programs at Jewellers Academy, with enrolment closing Friday, 13th June. Anna shares her deeply relatable story of delaying her own studies for years - and the powerful lessons she learned about perfectionism, procrastination, and the false safety of 'someday'. The conversation explores how early beliefs and internalised fears can hold us back from investing in ourselves, and why now - not later - is the time to take action. You’ll hear about the value of structured, supported learning vs. going it alone, how community accelerates growth, and why the diplomas are uniquely designed for makers at every stage, from absolute beginners to advanced jewellers. If you've been hesitating, this episode is the nudge you've been waiting for. Trust your intuition. Now a tutor herself, Risza opens up about the emotional depth behind her designs, the joy of teaching, and her mission to bring global attention to East Timor through jewellery.
