The GWS Giants had a 2019 AFL Grand Final they'd probably like to forget.  Succumbing to the hands of the Richmond Tigers in front of a packed MCG, the Giants produced a season where they stamped themselves as a team that could be cemented in the top 8 for years to come. Speaking with Trent Nikolic, 1985 Brownlow Medalist Brad Hardie states that Grand Finals where your leaders do not lift can affect the mentality of the whole team.  "When your leaders get smashed, it's very hard," shares Hardie. Hardie believes that Stephen Coniglio and Callan Ward are the pieces for GWS to build upon with strong leadership, "Coniglio and Ward are really the pieces for me, "Coniglio is a leader of the highest order... (Ward) is a bonafide leader" states Hardie. The Giants finished sixth on the ladder having defeated the Bulldogs, Brisbane, and Collingwood on their way to the Grand Final.
After killing it on weekend mornings over the past couple of months, we’ve given capital J capital K a breather this week and brought in super-sub Trent Nikolic to man the mic. Hockey One General Manager Tony Dodemaide has described the inception of the new domestic competition as a bold move for the sport as they prepare to kick off this weekend. Speaking on Nights with Julian King, Dodemaide admitted replacing the former Australian Hockey League with Hockey One is a big move. “It’s a really bold move for the sport”, he said. Dodemaide conceded most Australians only follow the hockey during the Olympics and Commonwealth Games but he is hoping the new league, which will include a men’s and women’s double header every game will get the visibility the players deserve. “We’ve got some of the best players in the world here...they deserve more visibility” Hockey One has men's and women’s teams under the same umbrella from Adelaide, Brisbane. Canberra, Melbourne, NSW, Perth, and Tasmania. It all begins this Sunday with the NSW Pride taking on the Adelaide Fire.

We’re down to the final two weeks of the 2019 NRL season with Canberra v South Sydney, and Melbourne v Roosters fighting for a spot in next week’s decider. Joining us always was Adam Hawse from Fox Sports News to discuss the team news for the preliminary finals. As well as the team news Hawse offered his predictions for the finals and spoke of the interesting stories coming out of both matches. The Roosters host the Storm at the SCG in what is a rematch of last year’s decider. The Storm are gunning for their fourth consecutive Grand Final appearance, while the hosts are looking to become the first back-to-back premiers in 26 years. Hawse described the two teams at the biggest teams in the league and spoke about what was on the line for each team.  “They’re the two power house teams of the competition”, he said. “This does shape as a Grand Final and you wonder how (whoever wins) will be able to get up for the following week because they will absolutely give it to each other at the SCG. Cameron Smith is desperate for another big game at the Grand Final, and you’ve got Cooper Cronk who is finishing up this year so he’ll want to take his side to the GF as well”.

GWS Giants will face off in their first ever Grand Final when they face Richmond. They had a nail-biting win over Collingwood while the Tigers knocked out the minor premiers in the Geelong Cats. 3AW AFL commentator Rohan Connolly joined Julian to review the action.
Fox Sports Rugby's Nick McArdle joined Julian King on Nights to review the opening Pool stages matches of the Rugby World Cup which included Australia's 39-21 victory over Fiji.
