Just Chatting About

Just Chatting About is a blend of fun, interesting and stimulating conversations. It allows us to zoom out of the things we are involved in and research about things that are outside our domains. We worked together in college. But even after college got over and we went our separate paths, we would occasionally get on long calls where we'd catch up and just chat about anything under the sun. Join in for raw, unfiltered conversations and unique perspectives.

Financial advice not from experts but experiences. Wait till the end where we discuss fundamental concepts of Behavioral Finance like Hyperbolic Discounting and its implications in our decision making. This is time well "spent"!

#4 - Small Talk. Flirting. Networking.

If your conversation skills are more reminiscent of a Sloppy Joe than Joe Rogan, a bit of preparation is in order. Asking the right questions with the right level of interest and at the right time is a good way to lay the foundation for a positive relationship with another person. But why do we dread small talk and trading niceties or even go out of your way to avoid neighbors and "unimportant" conversations. In this episode, Elson and Rehan explore small talk and its not so small impact. Small talk is a means to an end. In essence, it is polite conversation about unimportant things.  Knowing when to initiate small talk and also knowing when to move on and escalate the level of discourse beyond the mundane will make you a popular conversational partner. In short, being adept with small talk is an important component of your arsenal of social skills. Listen to the full episode for clever tips, psychological tricks and personal trajectories in the case for small talk.

#3 - Generalists vs Specialists

A consolidation of historical references, our present experiences and almost all the material available on the theme - we discuss the Generalists vs Specialists debate. We explore the changing paradigms from the Renaissance man to the Industrial Age and the ubiquity of technology. And also dabble with our predictions of the future. But unlike the traditional narrative of cherry-picking anecdotes and choosing one over the other, we examine its interleaving intricacies. Remember, a problem well put is half solved.

#2 - How to Find Freedom from 9 to 5 "Slavery"

"If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs." – Tony Gaskins What would you have to do to get from where you are to where you want to be? You are probably working on the dream of someone else while you could be working on your dream instead. Or better yet, if at all possible, work on both at the same time. In this episode, we discuss our experiences being employees and employers and how you can find the freedom to chase your dreams at your job too.
