What happens when the version of you who got you through the hardest seasons of your life is no longer the version you need to keep living from? In this episode, I'm talking about how survival can shape our identity, relationships, independence, discipline, and even the way we experience good things. Sometimes we become so good at anticipating, preparing, controlling, and pushing through that we don't realize how much of our life we're spending bracing for what's next instead of actually enjoying what's right in front of us. I'm exploring the connection between our nervous system, the protective patterns we've developed, and what it looks like to keep our strength without constantly operating from survival.   Kate Hastingsherformation.com [email protected] Instagram: @coachkate1 @herformation   Mission Med+ | Dr. Kristin Oakeswww.missionmedplus.com 786-692-9775 @MissionMed.Plus Discount: "Coach Kate" for 10%
This episode breaks down what it actually means to feel safe when you have spent years creating safety through control, preparation, independence, achievement, and anticipating what could go wrong. I talk about how our brains and bodies can learn to brace for life, why calm and uncertainty can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and why knowing you are safe is different from actually feeling safe. I walk through safety in the body, mind and emotions, relationship with yourself, relationships and communication, belonging and community, and faith. The goal is not to create a life where nothing difficult happens, but to build the self-trust, healthy connection, emotional capacity, and faith to recognize the difference between something that requires protection and something that simply requires us to stay present through discomfort, vulnerability, or uncertainty.  Kate Hastings herformation.com [email protected] @coachkate1 @herformation   Mission Med+ | Dr. Kristin Oakes www.missionmedplus.com 786-692-9775 @MissionMed.Plus Discount: "Coach Kate" for 10%
Are You Living Braced?

Are You Living Braced?

There is a difference between being prepared for your life and perpetually preparing yourself against it. In this episode, I unpack internal and physical bracing, preparation versus preoccupation, anticipatory suffering, transitions, receiving, rest, and why slowing down can feel uncomfortable when you're used to handling everything. I talk about how the nervous system can become conditioned to activation when anticipating, solving, monitoring, and staying one step ahead have been practiced for years, and how that state can begin to feel normal even when there is nothing immediately wrong. Being capable, responsible, and prepared are strengths, but there is a difference between using those strengths intentionally and feeling like you have to stay activated in order to feel safe, in control, or ready for whatever might happen next.
There is a reality to being a single woman where you have to provide, protect, lead, make the decisions, carry the responsibility, and hold the line because if you don't, no one else will. But the problem isn't that you have to operate in the masculine sometimes, it's when bracing, anticipating, controlling, and handling everything become your default state because your nervous system has learned that staying ahead is what keeps you safe. Femininity isn't about doing less or becoming less capable; it's learning how to stay soft, regulated, present, and receptive while still doing the things your life requires of you. You can make the decisions, pay the bills, lead the business, protect yourself, and hold your standards without doing all of it from fear, urgency, or the belief that everything will fall apart if you stop gripping. The goal isn't to become less strong, it's to become strong and soft at the same time, where your masculine is something you can access when you need it instead of the place you have to live. In this episode, I'm talking about the difference between self-trust and hyper-independence, and how strength can sometimes become protection when depending on other people hasn't always felt safe. I share how self-trust is built through values, decisions, boundaries, follow-through, and knowing you won't abandon yourself when life gets hard. I also talk about receiving, vulnerability, and why allowing trustworthy people to support you doesn't make you less capable or independent. There is a difference between healthy dependence and needing someone else for your stability, and real self-trust should make connection safer, not make other people unnecessary. You can be soft and strong, capable and supported, independent and still allow people to matter. The goal isn't to become a woman who needs nobody, but a woman who knows she can depend on herself and is secure enough to build a life with people she can depend on too.   Kate Hastingsherformation.com+ [email protected] Instagram: @coachkate1 @herformation   Mission Med+ | Dr. Kristin Oakeswww.missionmedplus.com 786-692-9775 + @MissionMed.Plus Discount: "Coach Kate" for 10%
