Keeping Time With Oster Watches

Keeping Time With Oster Watches is a podcast dedicated to enriching conversations about the luxury watch industry. Hosted by Jeremy Oster in Denver Colorado. Featuring guests from the top tiers of industry covering the latest trends, ideas, and products.

Keeping Time S9, E8: Martin Klocke, Sherpa Watches

How does a mechanical watch put out good vibes to the universe with every passing second? Listen in to the latest episode to find out! Our guest is the charming CEO of Sherpa Watches, Martin Klocke. I met Martin recently at Geneve Watch Days and the brand made quite an impression. Capturing authentic vintage vibes with superbly well executed dials in a true "Super-Compressor" case, the Sherpa line strikes quite a chord with a unique identity as a micro-brand out of Germany.  Listen in as we hear the full story of the inspiration behind this storied historical watch, first unveiled by Enicar in 1956 following a Swiss Expedition to Mt Everest. Enicar's SeaPearl watches proved to be incredibly reliable and suitable for extreme environments both deep underwater and as high as mankind would dare to explore, leading to the Sherpa rebranding. Martin shares with us his personal story of discovery of the famed Sherpa watches and his fascination with the 70 year old watches.  Today's faithful recreations provided many challenges to produce. It is wonderful to hear Martin talk about the production of the modern pieces and the technical brilliance of the original concept combined with further refinements. Only producing approximately 100 watches per year, today's Sherpa is a rare example of a passion project that celebrates technical brilliance, distinctive visual appeal and the rare achievement of faithfully respecting an original design with proportions that prove to be timeless. Combine all this with the world's first "Mantramatic" watch and there is far more than meets the eye with this incredibly compelling and fascinating wristwatch for the ages.  We hope that you enjoy Keeping Time podcast with host Jeremy Oster and co-host Doug Hoyt. If you could take a moment to rate, review as well as share with like-minded watch enthusiast friends it truly helps others to discover Keeping Time podcast. Keeping Time S9, E6: Tariff Impact on the Swiss Watch Industry

This episode is a little different. We are addressing the situation in the Swiss watch industry with a focus on an explanation of the tariffs imposed this year. The implications for global trade are quite huge with few countries affected as greatly as Switzerland. Despite a population of approximately 9 million, Switzerland is one of the most important investors into the US economy; from pharmaceuticals to chocolate production and financial services. Yet huge tariffs were directed at Switzerland which affects their export market. One of Switzerland's most famous and most desirable exports is of course luxury watchmaking. This is the reason you all listen to Keeping Time.  Today we are going to discuss in-depth the impact of the tariffs on the US watch market; how it impacts retailers, manufacturers, distributors (and agents) and of course the end-users who purchase these objects of mechanical beauty. We delve into the mechanics of how the tariffs actually work from an import perspective. We then welcome a couple of friends of the podcast who bring different perspectives to the conversation.  Michael Margolis initially joins us to discuss the US impact from the perspective of a US importing agent as well as how it can impact a consumer who decides to purchase in Europe or abroad. Later we are joined by Scott Rosen who discusses the impact of the USA tariffs in the Swiss industry from the perspective of the Swiss.  This in-depth conversation should be insightful for all watch collectors/enthusiasts alike and also those in the industry. Of course, everything today is a moving target so as changes occur the information presented on this episode may be outdated quickly. However, at this time, this is an invaluable conversation with real insight into the current situation created by the price of gold, exchange rate and tariffs. Keeping Time S8, E06: William Massena, Massena Labs

Join us as we welcome William Massena back to Keeping Time podcast. Fresh from Geneva Watch Days, join us as we catch up with William, one of the most knowledgeable and highly respected authorities on all things watches. With a breadth of knowledge spanning the entire history of watchmaking, the former CEO of Antiquorum Watches (auction house) and Managing Director of Time Zone offers a perspective and level of expertise few can challenge. The conversation begins with a deep-dive into the newest product launch from Massena Lab, a striking and unique vintage-inspired, modern take on a classic Regatta Yacht Timer. William explains the unique design approach and discusses his partner for this latest collaboration. The new watch is the first piece launched by a new watch company, ALBISHORN, with a very interesting design-ethos. The patented movement is just one noteworthy element of the new watch. Following discussion of William's eponymous brand, Massena Lab, we switch gears to discuss the recent Geneva Watch Days (GWD). Created just a couple of years ago, during the pandemic, William fully describes the purpose behind the show, the founders of the event and the experience of attending. Let's just say that any watch event that can be enjoyed wearing shorts and flip-flops whilst sipping Rosé is surely worthy of serious consideration.  William brings the show to life for our listeners and fully describes the vibe, experience and intentions of this important newcomer to the watch-industry calendar. The newest GWD releases are discussed. Of course, being a conversation between watch nerds, William Massena and Jeremy Oster, the conversation meanders and explores side-topics with a great detour into unraveling the history of the modern Breguet brand (pre-Swatch Group) and Daniel Roth. The conversation further delves into the early history and importance of FP Journe and Vianney Halter and the connection with Breguet. Incredibly, this fascinating conversational diversion occurs whilst discussing Konstantin Chaykin's record breaking "ThinKing" watch. As always, the conversation with William is natural, free-flowing and filled with information and insight that will be new, even for the most knowledgeable listeners.
