From Harrodsburg to Rupp Arena, the Johnson family name has been synonymous with greatness in Kentucky for generations. Now, Jasper Johnson — five-star guard, two-time gold medalist with Team USA, and grandson of legendary coach Alvis Johnson — is ready to write the most compelling chapter yet.
This story covers Jasper’s rise from Woodford County to Overtime Elite to Kentucky, the influence of his father Dennis and grandfather Alvis, the difficult decision to give up football, and why he ultimately chose Kentucky over North Carolina and Alabama. It’s a story about family, legacy, and what it means to carry the weight of expectations into the spotlight at Rupp Arena.

The 11 Personnel crew wrapped up Kentucky Football Fall Camp by hitting the road to hang out with our friends from Monticello Bank. We put people the audience first at KSR, which is why we have a partner where people matter.
What matters right now? That’s an excellent question. It’s fascinating to hear who the coaches and players will and won’t talk about after one month of practice. Is this just a game, or should we dive deep into the meaning behind it all? 11 Personnel wades through the mess as Kentucky Football Fall Camp closes. Highlights:
— Lots of praise for Cutter Boley, but what about Zach Calzada?
— The running backs missed the scrimmages. Is that a big deal?
— It all goes back to the Big Blue Wall.
— One Big Worry about the Kentucky Football team.
Summer is over and the Wildcats are heading back to campus for the real stuff. Kentucky‘s fall semester starts on August 25 with players trickling in this week — including none other than Andrija Jelavić, who finally arrived this past weekend. Jayden Quaintance is back, too, and he’s ramping up his on-court work ahead of his debut in Lexington.
What can we expect out of Jelavić and Quaintance in 2025-26? How does that impact everything else we know about the team coming out of eight weeks of summer workouts?
Also, John Wall has retired from basketball. Can you believe that? Coach Cal’s first rockstar has hung up the sneakers, so we’ll take a trip down memory lane there, too, along with sharing all of Mark Pope’s updates from his latest 70-minute podcast appearance. Why wouldn’t we talk about a podcast on a podcast?
It’s Monday at 4 p.m., which means it’s time for another edition of KSR Happy Hour, the newest show on the KSR YouTube Channel. We’ll need some extra cold beers for this one, as the heat wave continues to blanket the Bluegrass, and Kentucky Football season is so close we can almost taste it.
If this is your first time joining the Happy Hour, welcome! Each week, a rotating panel of KSR writers will recap the news of the day, preview the week ahead, and probably get way off topic, all while enjoying a delicious refreshment from Country Boy Brewing. Drew Franklin is playing in the Louisville golf scramble, so today, I’m joined by Nick Roush and Zack Geoghegan to talk Kentucky Football, Basketball, and whatever else is on our minds.
Mark Stoops dropped quite a bit of news at the Louisville Kickoff Luncheon today when he said Cutter Boley is battling it out with Zach Calzada for Kentucky’s starting quarterback spot, so we’ll start with that. There’s basketball news, too, as Croatian big man Andrija Jelavić finally arrived on campus. Plus, high school football kicks off this week, so we’ll preview what’s coming up under the Friday Night Lights.
