Five young people in their early 20s died in a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Co Louth on Saturday night. They were Chloe McGee from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, Alan McCluskey from Drumconrath, Co Meath, Dylan Commins from Ardee, Co Louth, Shay Duffy from Carrickmacross, and Chloe Hipson from Lanarkshire, Scotland. Ann Tydings knows only too well what their families are going through. Twenty-one years ago this month her son Pádraig was killed in a crash, he had just recently celebrated his 22nd birthday.
Kerry County Council has closed a North Kerry road for a month due to concerns about the integrity of a bridge. The L-6060 Duagh to Kilmorna road between Foildarrig junction and Kilmorna junction will remain closed to the public until 5pm on Friday, 11th December. This is because of concerns over Foildarrig Bridge. Jerry spoke to Cllr Liam Speedy Nolan.

Jerry spoke to Dr Laura Bambrick of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. ICTU says the government has included a ‘stealth cut’ to the jobseeker’s pay-related benefit in its social welfare bill. Congress says it discovered that the jobseeker’s pay-related benefit won’t be included in the general rate increase to core social welfare payments announced in last month’s budget. ICTU says this isn’t faire as workers are paying extra PRSI to fund this new payment, which is intended to insure them against a collapse in income in the first weeks after losing their job.
