How did I know my wife was "the one"? It was more than a "when you know, you know" type of feeling. She was different and made me feel safe. When our spouse feels safe with us, they have the freedom and ability to be their full selves, and we have the ability to help them grow into the person they were created to be. In December 2022, I was at my heaviest and unhealthiest weight I'd ever been at. At least 5 or 6 times in my adult life I had lost 20-30 pounds, only to put it back on. I wanted to do it different this time. I wanted to build a lifestyle I could consistently stick with for the rest of my life. So I dropped the weight again, and lost 30 pounds. But this time it was slower -- 12 months instead of 3 months -- and I'm better for it. I'm confident I've built a healthier lifestyle I can stick with. Why are we talking about this on a podcast aimed at dads? Because if you're a father or husband, you have a family that's counting on you to be your best. A wife that wants her husband around for the long haul. Kids that want to wrestle with their dad. And friends, employees, coworkers, and a community that's counting on you. You can't bring your best if you aren't at your best. Being physically fit as a dad isn't for vanity; it allows us to perform at our maximum output for a longer duration. So let's talk about it.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. K&M exists to help men win in marriage and parenting. The world is full of things out of our control. My favorite sports team losing is a constant reminder of that. The things out of our control tend to get our worry, attention, and focus... even though we can't do anything about them. But what if we stopped started focusing on the things we can control, and realized the power of influence we already have? Let's talk about it.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. K&M exists to help men win in marriage and parenting. Look... we've all heard it. We may have even participated in it. It sadly feels inevitable if you get a group of men or women together. Someone is going to start complaining about their spouse. Nitpicking, gossiping, complaining, going on and on. It almost seems like a given. But what if these small, seemingly innocent conversations were actually more harmful than we believed. If our words have power and what we focus on is what we see, then talking trash about our spouse behind their back can't have a fruitful outcome, can it? Let's talk about it.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. K&M exists to help men win in marriage and parenting. Does your spouse trust you? Do you trust your spouse? The answers to those questions are probably identical, and you can probably answer in less than a second. If it's a NO, this episode is one you need to listen to, even though I know you don't wanna do that. BUT if you care about your marriage, there has to be trust, which means there has to be opening up and letting go of some things. Let's talk about it.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. K&M exists to help men win in marriage and parenting. You've probably heard the saying "Marriage isn't 50/50, it's 100/100). While the heart behind it is good, both sayings have merit, but neither fully embodies what a healthy marriage looks like. In this episode, KG breaks down how the 50/50 AND the 100/100 mindset can benefit our marriage, as well as an additional mindset that differs from these two.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. Society has gotten it twisted lately. Somehow, going above and beyond for your lady to make sure she's loved, appreciated, and taken care of is seen as soft, unmanly, and characteristic of being a "simp." Stop trippin! In my experience, loving one woman well and committing to her for life is the manliest thing you can do. Boys play games; men set an example. If you want to be a king in your home, you better treat your wife like a queen!Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers. It's easy to take what you have for granted, but for me... everything I have is something I once prayed for. If you were to list out all the attributes you'd want in a partner, would patience make the list? Truthfully, it's not one we think of often, BUT it is painfully apparent when you're dealing with an impatient person. KG takes a look at what it means to be a patient husband and father, and where that stems from. Mental health and porn addiction are two things that keep men from being the type of husband and father they desire to be. So we've been tackling these issues and talking about them openly because we want to help men win in marriage and parenting. And if we can help any men overcome these issues, the tough conversations are worth it. In this episode, KG sits down with Brendon Coe (aka B-Coe) to hear his story and testimony of overcoming these very issues. We take it all the way back to his childhood and explore his journey that has led to him finding the freedom he now enjoys. As you listen, we hope you are inspired and encouraged that freedom IS possible. If you ever need a listening ear, drop us a DM on Instagram @kicksandminivans. Enjoyed today's guest? Mental health is something that impacts us all. When it comes to its impact on men, it can often be ignored, downplayed, or even weaponized against us. Prepare yourself -- we're diving in deep. The use of pornography has become so normalized in our society, a key question has to be asked: What do you believe about porn? Do you believe it's good, bad, or okay as long as your partner says so? Is it really impacting you positively or negatively, or is it neutral? KG and guest Rashad Cunningham break down multiple layers of this topic in this rich conversation.Disclaimer: While we know pornography is an issue that is applicable for various ages and demographics, this is a conversation geared towards and intended for adult audiences. Shame and guilt are two words often used interchangeably, but there are key differences between the two. In fact, guilt is a healthy and helpful, whereas shame is destructive and damaging. In this episode, KG describes the key differences between these two emotions and what to do with them. We know we have limits. We just believe those limits were meant to be broken. But what if the natural capacity we were created with wasn't meant to burden or hinder us, but grow us and help us focus on what matters most? We're joined this episode by Marc Lucenius, founding and lead pastor of 938 Church in West Chester, PA. We discuss what parenting three kids in high school and college is like, what he wishes he knew in his 20s and 30s, and how embracing his limits has made him a better husband, father, and leader.Kicks and Minivans is the podcast for dads... especially the ones who love sneakers.
