Brandon Timothy Jackson was born on March 7, 1984, in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in a family involved in entertainment—his father is a pastor and his mother is a music teacher—Jackson was exposed to the arts from a young age. He developed an interest in comedy and acting, which led him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Jackson attended the University of Arizona, where he began performing stand-up comedy and honing his skills. Before transitioning to acting, Brandon T. Jackson was a stand-up comedian.
