Welcome to Season 3 of Koller Commentary! We're back with some great content, embedding the Enneagram into the powerful stories to come. This week Matt and I kick off the season by going back to our beginnings - our childhood. As I share what each Enneagram Type's Interpreted Childhood Message is, Matt and I both take the seat to reflect on what that message meant for us growing up and how that might have translated to some of our patterns today.  Share your reflections with the Instagram community @kollercommentary!  YEC Enneagram Test Truity Enneagram Test Koller Commentary's Previous Enneagram Episode with Won Hee Are you interested in Enneagram Coaching with Eunjee? Happy World Mental Health Day! I can’t believe I got to sit down with Laura Izumikawa, a professional photographer and videographer, who began creating photos and videos of her adorable napping daughter, Joey, in pop-culture costumes as a way to make her friends and family laugh while on maternity leave. What began as a way for Laura to find humor in parenting turned into a viral phenomenon. Her photos turned into a published book by Simon and Schuster in 2017 called, Naptime with Joey, which I own and have personally signed hehe! Laura and Joey have been featured on USA Today, ABC News, Huffington Post, and BuzzFeed, and recent partnerships include Canon, Apple, Target, Huggies, Mattel, Alaska Air, and Whole Foods.  Laura has since amassed a loyal audience who follow her for her humorous approach to parenting along with informative tips, her relatable approach about home and lifestyle, and teaching her daughters the importance of spreading kindness - all told through the lens of a down-to-earth and candid mother.  Listen in as Laura openly shares about how her faith grounds her in this crazy momfluencer life, how she intentionally protects and balances her identities in motherhood, marriage, and her mental well being, and her unique perspectives and inspiring life tips that have continued to shape and grow her and those around her. Thank you Laura for coming on the pod!!  Laura is an Enneagram 4 or 7 and her MBTI is ISFP - The Adventurer!

This week I got to sit down with Carol Pak, founder of Sool! With renowned beverages like @drinkmakku and @drinksoku, Carol and the @drinksool team have paved the way in innovation to globalize Korean alcohol in an accessible and inclusive way since 2017. I personally fell in love with Makku in October 2021 on a trip to Seattle where this rice-based, all-natural, vegan, and gluten-free drink birthed from our parents' country brought such a physically and emotionally satisfying taste with each sip. Listen in on our conversation as Carol reflects on how all her experiences intersect to lead her to this point today, what she would tell her younger entrepreneur self, and her invaluable perspective as an Asian American female founder of a global product. Prior to Sool, she worked at ZX Ventures (owned by AB InBev), leading the launch of a new alcoholic beverage brand in China. She is native New Yorker, with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Follow Carol on Instagram and LinkedIn. I hope everyone had a Happy Chuseok this past weekend! In honor of creating space for family time, the Chi x Koller family played a game, Parents are Human, a bilingual connection card game designed to spark deep conversations between you and your loved ones. We had so much fun sharing with one another, and even though our family is pretty close to begin with, we got to learn more about how to love and appreciate each other better and even hear some stories from our parents' pasts. Listen in as we share and butcher some Korean words :P, all while soaking in the true meaning of this holiday. With the pandemic and rising inflation, more and more families are focusing on the importance of gathering with families and relatives to have quality time together rather than focusing on the ritual itself. I hope as you join in on our family's conversation, you can be encouraged to go back and start dialogue within your own intimate units! ALSO, stay tuned until the very end to catch a teaser from the cutest guest in the world. HEHEHOHO! In preparation for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) this weekend, I invited my siblings to the pod to reminisce on our younger days as we share our different perspectives on what it was like growing up under the same roof. We swap stories on getting spanked, the pressures of being an Asian American student at a competitive school, and what obedience looked like to each of us. We also swap fond stories of gratitude as we remind ourselves that through any low or high, our family has been and will always be a glue that keeps us together through life, no matter the obstacle. Thank you, Appa and Umma! I am honored to sit down and talk with Jeanie Chang, LMFT, on the podcast this week. We discuss her journey from multiple career changes at an unconventional time, finding success in her choice to put her mental well-being first, and how she has pioneered change for Asian Americans and beyond through her work as a licensed therapist, global speaker, and social medial influencer. Her platform, Noona's Noonchi, creates a powerful and unique community where she discusses the intersection of Korean Dramas and mental health through the unique lens of a mental health clinician. Did I mention she's also a mom of FOUR?!  Jeanie's story of resilience and change is an inspiring one to say the least, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did! Stay tuned to hear about her recent trip to Korea where she got to see her passionate work in real life and also share her favorite dramas as a Korean American licensed clinician.  Jeanie is an Enneagram 3 and her MBTI is ENFJ - The Protagonist! This week, Matt and I sit down to reflect on our recent move to Dallas. TBH, it was an incredibly hard transition for us, relationally, but I always appreciate my husband for taking time to reflect and seeing how we can grow from every obstacle. We reminisce on Houston, look ahead to opportunities in Dallas, and all the transitions still ahead for the KollerKrew. We also talk about our recent experience in couples therapy and have some fun reading some descriptions about each other's Enneagram Types! There is even a past "quibble" that we would love the Enneagram community to chime in on  towards the end :)  Thank you for allowing us to be vulnerable on the podcast. Have fun listening and three cheers to Matt on starting his first BIG BOY doctor job this week!! Matt is an Enneagram 9 and his MBTI is ESFJ - The Consul. This week, I had a spontaneous conversation with Janice Tong, formerly Janice Yi, to shed some light on our more "positive" birth experiences, share our pregnancy journeys and scares, and reflect on the overall joys and struggles of motherhood as we prepare for the imminent transition from one to two. Our sons, Levi and Jadon, were born a day apart at the start of lockdown in TX, and now, two years later, we are both preparing to welcome our second babies! Janice was born and raised in Dallas with a fun path that took her through bible college to corporate life to now stay-at-home mom life while managing operations for Ignis Community. While Janice and I have been acquaintances with various connections over the years, what brought us even closer now is motherhood, and I love how this stage in life can bring us together! Excuse our heavy breathing as we are both in our third trimesters, and enjoy us ajummas babbling about life :) Janice is an Enneagram 6 and her MBTI is ISFJ - The Defender! This week, I got to sit back down with Grace Yun and hear her reflect on her difficult birth story, celebrate the end of her fourth trimester, and share all the beautifully jumbled reflections of a newborn mama. I know there are a lot of soon-to-be mamas out there, so listen as Grace shares tips for newborn moms and some must-have baby gear for the early days to welcome your little one in soon! This week, I challenge myself to be brave and sit down to vulnerably share reflections from my one year therapy journey thus far! I try to open up with some specific examples and "aha!" moments that revealed the layered hurts that have built within me while still protecting the space that is meant to be fully raw and exposed in just therapy. Thank you for your grace and love as you celebrate this milestone alongside me <3 I hope we can all take small steps to normalize the importance of caring for our mental health. You don't have to be severely struggling to take that first step.  Enneagram 2w3, MBTI ENFJ - The Protagonist! This week, I sit down with two best friends who became first time dads during the pandemic. I invited them onto the podcast to share their reflections in adjusting to fatherhood and also the unique lens of their strong friendship with one another through many seasons of life. We talked for nearly 2 hours as they reflected on their deep love for each other, their wives, their kids, and how this new identity has completely changed them for the better. While these two just became dads and the journey ahead is still vast and mighty, listening to them honor their wives, share some heavy reflections on how they hope to lead their families, and how they continue to value the pillars of their friendship is inspiring to say the least. Oh, but don't you worry, while there were many sweet words exchanged, I still got them to spill the tea on their reckless days and we even had some gossip time at the end about some of their other male besties ;) I also got rebuked a few times by these Enneagram 3 bros, so listen in for a good time! I bet you'll want to reach out to a dear bestie of yours after the episode ends <3  Dad #1, Joon Chong, currently lives in Seattle with his wife, Ashley, and daughter, Olivia, who just turned 1. He works as a product manager at Amazon and loves to explore new areas of Seattle, TV shows, foods, and hobbies with his family. Dad #2, Peter is a follower of Jesus, a husband to Kat, a father to 7 month old Elijah, a pastor at Seven Mile Road, and a weary Texas Longhorns fan. In spite of the humidity and traffic, Houston is home and the city he has grown to love a great deal. Happy Father's Day to all you amazing men out there! Your love and sacrifice do not go unnoticed <3   Both Joon and Peter are Enneagram 3's. I can’t believe I got to (virtually) meet Jane Park on the podcast! This week I sit down with her and discuss her journey from establishing herself as a successful professional, to balancing life as a working mom, to making the tough decision to stay home with her kids, to ultimately finding her groove as a TikTok Momfluencer with over 3.5 million followers. Jane is a digital content creator and mom of two based in Seattle. A former TV news reporter, Jane stumbled onto TikTok at the height of the pandemic, where she shares relatable parenting joys and woes. She's a proud Korean American who is teaching her kids to love their culture and community, often sharing that journey with her social media audience. Jane grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, and has lived all over the U.S., including in New York, Chicago, D.C., and Michigan, before moving back to the west coast. Happy AAPI Month! (Content Warning: This episode contains mention of suicidal ideation, self-harm, and sexual abuse while discussing journeys through mental illness)  As many of you know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This week, I invited Sharon Kim onto the podcast to discuss her own mental health and illness journey and her passionate involvement in bringing awareness and bridging the gap for better mental health access for Korean Americans. Sharon serves as the Executive Director at Mustard Seed Generation (MSG), a nonprofit organization that exists to lower mental health barriers in the Korean American community. She was born in Paraguay to Korean parents and grew up in Paraguay, Spain, and China and has worked in Korea and Mexico. Growing up as a global nomad, she experienced hardships that many Third Culture Kids go through, namely anxiety that comes from constantly moving around as well as a sense of rootlessness and identity crisis. Through those experiences, she became passionate about raising awareness of cross-cultural kids to mono-cultural parents and hopes to help strengthen parent-child relationships through MSG. She holds a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Seoul National University and a master's degree in International Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Sharon enjoys going anywhere and everywhere on a journey with her brown leather journal, a black pen, and a good book in hand in her spare time.   Sharon is an Ennegram 1w2 and her MBTI goes between an INFJ - The Advocate and an ENFJ - The Protagonist Instagram: @msgeneration Podcast: Research Sense for Korean American Therapy Register for their upcoming Mental Health Training for Korean American Church Leaders If you loved this episode as much as I did, head on over to rate and subscribe so you never miss an episode! This week, I got to sit down with Lily Kim as she reflected on her resilient journey from witnessing her parents' divorce at a young age, entering motherhood as a teenager, and allowing herself to be pruned and pulled to come back full circle to experience a redeeming Love. Lily's story is an inspiring one of surrender, redemption, and hope even in your darkest moments, and I am so grateful that she chose to be vulnerable on the pod with me in this episode. Listen in as you hear her lived experiences and even reflect on your own trials that made you who you are today! Lily is our first 1.5 generation guest, born in Korea and raised in Texas since she was 5 years old. She currently resides in Plano, Texas with her husband, Gene, her tweenage daughter Leila, and TWO goldendoodles. Lily works in Demand Generation Marketing for a Silicon Valley Tech Startup. This week, I invite my husband, Matt, onto the pod to reflect upon our past year of marriage as our 4th anniversary comes up at the end of the month! It's easy for both of us to say that this year was the absolute hardest year of marriage, oftentimes leaving us in despair and hopelessness at what our future looked like. We take time to reflect on the struggles that led to this point, how it affected us personally, and what happened to where we can actually be more in love today than we ever thought possible. Listen in as we reflect on things we would do differently if we could go back in time, ways we've grown as a partner-in-crime, and what we look forward to in the days to come!  Matt is a controversial Enneagram 9w8 and his MBTI is ESFJ - The Consul! Hello and Happy New Year's to you all! In this episode, Eunjee hosts her entire family on the pod to discuss the Enneagram in the lens of family! While we are far from Enneagram experts, this was such a rich time to create space for discussion and room for greater understanding of one another. We reflected on our journey and initial reactions to our type results, early memories of our type playing out in childhood, how it shows in our family today, and so many fun nuggets in between. I am incredibly grateful for a family who took time to take the Enneagram test and show up to the pod to transparently share simply because they support my podcast project. We may butt heads at times, but family has been such a blessing and constant during these unprecedented times. I encourage you to use the Enneagram as a tool to spark discussion and connection within your own families. Some guiding questions I created and the Enneagram test I sent to my family are shared below! While we all tested negative for covid, the majority of our family managed to catch a cold during our week together. Excuse a few uneditable sniffles and coughs and most importantly, EUNJOY the great content!  Co-Hosts: Josephine Eunjee Koller (Chi) Guests: Chong Chi (Head of Household), Chong Chi (Mother), Jessica Chi (Oldest Daughter), Alex Chi (Middle Child), Matt Koller (Married into Chi Fam) Guiding Questions: 1. What was your reaction to your type results? Did anything stick out (negative or positive) when reading your description? 2. What is your most vivid weakness? What are some unique strengths? 3. What’s a memory(ies) from your childhood that you can pinpoint that reflects your enneagram type? 4. How do you see these traits playing out in our family today? How about in treating yourself? 5. What can you share to help us as a family understand how you think? 6. What is something you’d like the family to know about what’s difficult for you within our dynamic in the lens of your enneagram? 7. What do you love about our family? How can we grow as we learn more about each other? Enneagram Test from Your Enneagram Coach
