This Week I have filmmakers Celia Peters, Hilton J Day, Benjamin Mullholland, and comedienne Ambitious Mae.  The Guests talked about being black and on a film set and also what it would take to make stories not only from an Africentric point of view but taking it to the world stage (or screen) as we discussed the possibilities of making films about prominent historical figures from ancient Egypt and the African continent.  I definitely enjoyed catching up with these wonderful people.  Enjoy!

Alrik Bursell is a filmmaker, producer, cinematographer, editor and director.  He's been working in video production for over 10 years and has been working on everything from feature films, to broadcast commercials to DVD instructional videos, if those even exist
Alrik is a big believer in casting diversely and getting more people who don’t look like me in front of the camera. We have 100 years of cinema with 99% of everyone on camera being a certain color, I’m hoping to be a part of the change that’s coming, where we start to see people of all backgrounds be represented in our films.
I’m currently working on my first feature film, The Alternate, which we will be shooting in the fall of 2019.  You can also check out our collaboration, The Rage.

Raelle Myrick-Hodges, a seasoned arts administrator and founder of Philadelphia’s Azuka Theatre is currently the creative director of 651 Arts, a performing arts center focusing on the African diaspora.  Raelle would say that she has been directing live theater since she was a small child as she would charge her own parents admission to see her first play.  Since then she has gone on to work with Broadway legend George C. Wolfe and then stepped out on her own to directing with well over 20 years of experience.

Tyrel Ventura is one of my good friends that I've known for about 20 years.  I met him when I was living in Minneapolis at the tail end of his  father's (Jesse Ventura) term as governor of Minnesota.  Before he began his career as a news commentator for RT's Watching the Hawks he began making short films and being a part of a few independent features.  His training for all this came from real world experience as he worked for academy award winner Sean Penn as his personal assistant.  It was there that he began to learn from veteran   filmmakers like Clint Eastwood and Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
From there he relocated to Los Angeles Ca where he produced tv shows like Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura and the films:  The Wanderers, American Rescue Squad, and my short film The Rage.

A few weeks ago I decided that it would be a good idea to bring together a group of talented artists so we could talk about how this global pandemic has affected them creatively and mentally.  I am stocked that our conversation brought humor and comradery as we talk about our changing world!  Enjoy.
