Description

Bohmian mechanics is a theory of quantum phenomena based on a particle picture. This lecture is aimed at an audience, who is familiar with some basic textbook quantum mechanics. Its aim is to convey the basic ideas and show some applications of Bohmian mechanics in a rather accessible way.On a fundamental level Bohmian mechanics, often also called the de Broglie-Bohm theory, explains the world in terms of point particles that move on deterministic paths. When used to describe experimental situations, Bohmian mechanics yields the textbook formalism of quantum mechanics, and can therefore be considered as an explanation of the axioms of standard quantum mechanics. Using Bohmian mechanics, one can easily understand all of the quantum puzzles.

This lecture is aimed at an audience who is familiar with some basic quantum mechanics. Its aim is to convey the basic ideas and show some applications of Bohmian mechanics in a rather accessible way. Consequently it sometimes ignores subtleties and demonstrates things in a simplified way. For a more thorough account we refer to the literature that can be found in the script to the lecture.
