Today we are sharing an episode focused on International Women’s Day, which speaks with three employees here at LSH. Sophie Wisdom, National Head of Operational Service Lines and In-house Counsel at Lambert Smith Hampton, Carla Watson, Associate Director and Elise Evans, Director. The topics we touch on throughout this episode are elements that are under review and are being discussed within the company, since being raised on last year’s series of short interviews, for International Women’s Day, here on the podcast. The seeds of International Women’s day were planted in 1908 when 15,000 diverse women marched in New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to women. The following year it was voted by 17 countries to be celebrated as an international day.  The property industry is still a very male-dominated space, however keeping up these conversations helps more awareness to be spread and shared throughout our company, our competitors and our clients. Our Regional Office Market Report 2021 has found that a resurgence of demand for high-quality workspace has driven a sharp recovery in take-up across the regional office markets, subsequently pushing prime rents to new highs. The pandemic may be far from over, but the unwinding of restrictions and successful vaccination roll-out has brought normality back to office life and, crucially, occupiers back to the regional office markets. The recovery is rapidly gathering pace. At 2.2m sq ft, Q3 take-up across 20 key UK regional markets combined was the strongest quarterly outturn since the onset of the pandemic, while Q4 take-up is forecast to hit an impressive 2.7m sq ft, 17% above trend. Consequently, take-up in 2021 as a whole is expected to be circa 8.1m sq ft in 2021, rebounding by 42% on 2020 and only 12% below the annual average. In our latest podcast, we speak with Steve Hemming, Head of Planning, Development & Regeneration, Mary-Jane O'Neill, Head of Planning and special guest Roger Barrett, Group Land & New Homes Director at Connells, about why Government must tackle planning reform.  This is in response to recent survey findings which show that the prevailing planning system is the largest single obstacle to residential development. 68 per cent of respondents to our Residential Development Survey, which canvassed the views of housebuilders, developers, investors, professional services and public sector bodies, identified the “challenging, time consuming and costly” system as the top issue facing the delivery of new homes. Over the next few weeks, bite-sized snippets detailing our South East Office Market Report will be released via LSH Talks. In this particular episode, we talk investment with Charlie Lake, Capital Markets Director.  There is a strong depth of global demand and keen pricing for thematic-led investments in the region, especially where life sciences is concerned. While demand elsewhere in the market is relatively diverse, activity is thinner, reflecting limited distress and an ongoing disparity in pricing aspirations between prospective buyers and sellers.  Investors that are willing to engage in active asset management plays have a huge opportunity to exploit the gap in the market and gain a first-mover advantage. This weeks episode of LSH Talks is a conversation with the Founder and CEO of PlanetMark, Steve Malkin; PlanetMark is an international sustainability certification and programme enabling organisations and their people to improve their social and environmental impacts.  A few weeks ago we spoke with Frankie Bryon about the launch of our ESG Policy, in partnership with PlanetMark, so today we discuss with Steve Malkin, what PlanetMark does and how they can help other large organisations become more sustainable.   Their purpose is to enable meaningful change that creates a more sustainable, equitable world. They do this by supporting all types of businesses in their sustainability goals and certifying their achievements.  We also speak with Frankie Bryon about why at LSH chose to partner with PlanetMark, but also why the conversation about sustainability with our clients has become far more prominent over the last few years.
