Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This is part two of a two-part series about our 2023 Death Valley motorcycle trip. In May of 2023, members of Law Abiding Biker™ Media along with members of the Sworn Few LEMC embarked on a 10-day, 4000-mile, 5-state cross-country motorcycle trip. This trip would take us out of Washington State and into Oregon, California, Arizona, and Nevada. We stayed over in cities such as Redding, California, Furnace Creek, California, Huntington Beach, California,  Las Vegas, Nevada, Reno, Nevada, and Bend, Oregon. You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plan HERE.  We took several day trips on our adventure.  You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plans for Huntington Beach HERE, for Death Valley HERE, and for Las Vegas HERE.   There will be a motorcycle documentary film released later on this entire trip and experience! SEE ALL LAW ABIDING BIKER MEDIA DOCUMENTARY FILMS HERE! We visited many places and saw a ton of great country on our Death Valley motorcycle trip. We stayed at some good and not-so-good hotels and motels. We ate at some good restaurants and some bad ones. We experienced good and bad weather and a few of the bikes experienced some mechanical problems that had to be fixed. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We had some very funny times as a group and made memories that will last a lifetime. Everything that happened shaped the trip in some way. Listen in as we tell all the stories of our Midwest motorcycle trip. We also share tips and tricks to assist riders who may be thinking of a long-distance motorcycle road trip. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Our Patron Members support us financially, so we can continue to help as many bikes as we can worldwide. Of course, our Patron Members get benefits and exclusive access such as meetups.  Unfortunately, due to health reasons, I was unable to plan a Patron meetup this year.   There is usually an awesome day ride prepared for the members. We have plenty of time to visit and get to know each other on a more personal level. We normally end the day at a private location where the Patron Members enjoyed a catered dinner by Law Abiding Biker Media!  We look forward to doing a Patron Meetup Ride on our next summer trip.   NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Install Kuryakyn Tracer LED Lower Fairing Grill Lights on a Harley-Davidson Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Official Website: www.lawabidingbiker.com I saw that Indian came out with the 2023 Sport Chief and I said to myself, “Hey, Indian made a Harley Low Rider S”.  Well, it’s clearly their answer to compete with Harley in that category of bike anyways.  I had to take a deep look at this bike and break it down for you and give you my thoughts.  How does the Indian Sport Chief match up to the Harley Low Rider S? I really needed to know. I’ve seen some trying to compare the Sport Chief to the Harley Low Rider ST and I wholeheartedly disagree. I test-rode and reviewed the Low Rider ST last year in Santa Barbara, CA and it’s more in the category of sport touring. It has a very large fairing and windshield, an available dash stereo system with speakers, and hard saddlebags. The Sport Chief is more in the category of a sport cruiser with a very small fairing and windshield, no in-dash stereo system or speakers, and no hard saddlebags, just like the Lowrider S. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE This video is not about the old Harley vs. Indian BS conversations. Honestly, those sorts of attitudes just muddy the real conversation and facts.  Understand, that we ride Harleys, Indians, and other metric bikes here on this channel and support all makes and models of motorcycles.  Remember, competition in the motorcycle marketplace is GOOD and benefits all motorcycle enthusiasts. It pushes companies to put out their best products. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! We could really go back and forth on what things the Sport Chief or Low Rider S has that the other doesn’t and price out adding a particular item or feature on. But, at the end of the day, we’ve found that if you make these bikes almost exactly the same with parts and features they are within a couple of hundred dollars of each other. I love my Lowrider S, but I would not think twice about owning the Sport Chief if I had extra money to throw around. I really want to ride this bike and see what it’s all about. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Get Progressive Suspension for your Harley Davidson!  We installed the Progressive Suspension Monotube Fork Cartridge Kit on Lurch's 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. After riding his Harley with the newly installed Progressive front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, he highly recommends this suspension and we decided to carry Progressive Suspension right in the Law Abiding Biker Store.  We also installed the Progressive Suspension 490 Sport Heavy Duty Series Shocks on his 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special.  He also highly recommends these shocks and we decided to carry them right in the Law Abiding Biker Store.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Lurch was not happy with the overall ride of his 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special, which came with the standard front suspension Harley has used for many years now on its touring models, which has no adjustments. Unfortunately, it is what it is.  He wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Progressive Suspension Monotube Fork Cartridge Kit has!  He was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models.  He wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the 13" Progressive Suspension 490 Sport Heavy Duty Series Shocks have!  WHY LURCH CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Progressive Suspension rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store.  By installing the 13" Progressive Suspension rear shocks, Lurch raised the rear of his Road Glide Special 1" which gives him more of a lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Lurch was absolutely blown away at how much smother his Harley rode and cornered after installing Progressive Suspension! He did not realize what a difference good shocks would make! Wow, it was more than he ever expected and he highly recommends upgrading your Harley shocks to Progressive Suspension! It even got rid of most of the bagger wobble while cornering at faster speeds.  His Harley just rode like a completely different bike! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, we talk about the 2025 Harley-Davidson Model rumors floating around and we make our predictions.  There is a lot of speculation swirling around the internet about what the 2025 Harley-Davidson model year will bring.  Keep in mind, we do not have any inside information about 2025 models.  Trust us, we try to get info out of our Harly contacts but they are very tight-lipped.  As they should be.  As the new model year approaches it is always for to speculate what might happen.  This episode was live in YouTube for our beloved Patreon members.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The big rumor is that the Ultra Limited models will be eliminated.  If so, you would need to purchase a Street Glide or Road Glide and outfit them with accessories to essentially create an Ultra Limited.  We talk about the pros and cons of this if true.  We speculate what the benefit would be to the purchaser and the MoCo.   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Another rumor is Harley will bring back the polished black inner fairing instead of the matte black inner fairing.  We talk about some model production being moved to Thailand.  Some bikers are disappointed with an American company making a bike overseas.  In the past, Harley promised not to produce bikes in another country.  What does this mean and does it lend credence to the rumor of the Ultra Limited getting the axe? Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Hey Bikaholics, I just wanted to quickly tell you about some changes for our current and future Patron members of Law Abiding Biker Media. We wanted to let you all know about a change we are making that will help us deliver a better membership experience going forward. We are switching from “per piece of content” to “monthly” subscription billing on Patreon effective October 2024. This means that every month you will have a consistent price for all of the benefits that we provide, and it won’t fluctuate based on the number of content pieces per month that we release. Don't stress out. There isn't really anything you need to do as a current member, but we wanted to keep you informed and be transparent. We decided to make this change both for the consistency it provides to members and us, and the flexibility to consider other benefits we can provide that aren’t tied to the number of paid posts we make. Your membership will be converted from a “per creation” amount to an easier “monthly” subscription amount.  Understand, that we've never raised fees in over 10 years for our Patron members. During this transition, we are slightly raising membership fees for the first time for all new memberships as operation costs have increased over time. HERE ARE THE CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP FEES: Base Tier- From $1 to $5 per month Mid Tier- From $12 to $15 per month Top Tier - From $20 to $25 per month The only change existing members will see during this transition is that they'll only be charged once a month now instead of per piece of content that we release. Understand that if you choose to sign up exclusively within the IOS app on your iPhone, you'll pay additional fees to Apple for using their sign-up services. Even if you have an iPhone, you can still choose to sign up outside of Apple IOS ecosystem using the Patreon website directly to sign up and then use the Patreon App like always on your iPhone without the additional Apple fees. You'll be paying Patreon and us directly that way, instead of using Apple and paying their additional fees. Existing members will be happy to know that when we transition, you are grandfathered in at your current pledge level as long as you continue to use your current payment method. Once the transition happens, you can make membership changes in your Patreon account. Thanks for your understanding as we make this transition to a standard monthly subscription fee, which is an easier and more understandable model. We wanted to inform all of our members now so everyone is fully informed before this takes effect in October 2024. Please reach out if you have any questions. We’re looking forward to this next phase of building our community together on Patreon! And if your not yet a Patron member, you are really missing out. It's the fastest growing biker community around and there are a plethora of benefits for becoming a member. You can learn more by heading over to LawAbidingBiker.com/Patreon ________________________________________________________ FURTHER INFORMATION:   Official Website: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com   Email & Voicemail: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com/Contact   Podcast Hotline Phone: 509-731-3548 HELP SUPPORT US! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Our main content for this podcast and our YouTube Channel is street motorcycles; more specifically American V-Twin.  But, we do love all motorcycles.  Many of us have adventure motorcycles and dirt bikes.  Rick recently purchased a Husqvarna Norder 901.  We get into a fun debate about which is a better adventure motorcycle; the Kawasaki KLR650 or a Norden 901.  The truth is it is difficult to find the perfect adventure motorcycle.  They tend to lean either toward dirt or street, without being great at either.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Brian, you may know him as Goat, just bought a Norden 901 Expedition.  Goat is later in his life and getting back into off-rod riding.  He road dirt as a young man, but life got in the way.  There seems to be a trend of guys getting into adventure and dirt riding later in life.  Our guess is that guys like Goat are at a place in life where they can afford to have an extra bike and the time to ride it.   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we talk about our recent multi-state motorcycle trip and the things we learned.  Our recent trip from Nashville, Tennessee, out to the Coast, down and across Florida to Destin, and then back up to Nashville was no exception.  The first debacle occurred at the very beginning of our trip.  This was the first trip that we trailered bikes.  Lurch and Popeye trailered the bikes to Patron Member Russell Roberts's house while the remainder of us flew.  We failed to put the bikes in transport mode assuming there would be no issue since we left the key fobs on the bikes.  Wrong!  At least we had our portable jump packs to get us going.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We continually test and review riding gear for the Law Abiding Biker (LAB) community.  There is a lot of textile riding gear that is comfortable and safe.  We all here at LAB went through our leather phase.  It was what was expected as riding gear for Harley riders.  We believe that the paradigm is shifting and we promote comfortable and safe riding.  On this trip, we tested an Alpinestars T SP X Superair Jacket and an Alpinestars Purpose Mid-Layer Jacket.  The two together are an awesome combination.  The Superair jacket allows for excellent airflow to keep you cool and the Purpose Mid-Layer jacket keeps you warm in cooler weather.  We liked the combo so much that we brought it to our store.   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we talk about all things tires.  We cover how old your motorcycle tires can be and still be safe, what tires are the best, and the best way to balance them.  This episode was presented live on YouTube to our Patreon members.  You can be a Patron of Law Abiding Biker and get our content much sooner than the public.  If you need new tires, please check out our store.  You can contact us if you don't see your desired tire size.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Tires age due to a combination of factors, including exposure to environmental conditions, the materials they are made from, and how they are used. Here are some key points on how tires age: Oxidation: Over time, exposure to oxygen and ozone in the air causes the rubber compounds in tires to degrade. This process, known as oxidation, makes the rubber harder and less flexible, leading to cracks and a decrease in performance. UV Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight can break down the chemical bonds in tire rubber, causing the tires to become brittle and crack. This is especially problematic for tires that are not regularly used and are stored outside. Heat: Exposure to high temperatures accelerates the aging process of tires. Heat causes the rubber to lose elasticity and strength more quickly. Tires used in hot climates or on vehicles that generate a lot of heat (e.g., heavy trucks) age faster. Physical Wear: Regular use leads to physical wear and tear, which contributes to the aging process. The tread wears down, and the internal structure can become compromised due to impacts, punctures, and general use. Storage Conditions: How tires are stored significantly affects their aging. Tires stored in cool, dry, and dark conditions age more slowly compared to those exposed to heat, moisture, and light. Chemical Exposure: Exposure to certain chemicals, oils, and solvents can accelerate the aging process of tires by breaking down the rubber compounds. Maintenance: Proper tire maintenance, including regular inflation, alignment, and rotation, can help slow the aging process. Neglecting these aspects can lead to uneven wear and faster deterioration. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Signs of Aging Tires Cracking: Visible cracks on the sidewalls or between the treads are a common sign of aging. Hardening: The rubber becomes harder and less flexible, reducing the tire's grip on the road. Deformation: Bulges or deformities in the tire structure can indicate internal damage and aging. Tread Wear: Worn-down treads reduce traction and can be a sign of an aged tire. Recommendations Regular Inspections: Have your tires inspected regularly by a professional, especially if they are over five years old. Replacement: Tires should generally be replaced every six to ten years, regardless of their appearance, to ensure safety and performance. Proper Storage: If storing tires for an extended period, keep them in a cool, dry, and dark place to slow the aging process. Understanding how tires age can help you maintain them better and ensure your safety on the road. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Your Stock Harley Shift Linkage Will Fail At Some Point-Fix It! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch, and we give you proper motorcycle clutch break-in procedures to ensure a good working and long-lasting clutch.  Most riders buy their new bike and just ride and don't truly break it in.  I recommend breaking your clutch in correctly to widen your clutch friction zone and ensure durability.   For those unfamiliar with the term, the friction zone is the critical area where the clutch plates are neither fully engaged nor disengaged. Some riders might call it “dragging the clutch.” Mastering control within this zone is crucial for maneuvering your motorcycle, particularly at lower speeds. Experienced riders, like police officers, frequently operate within this zone to navigate challenging courses, which directly translates to safer street riding. Check out my motorcycle clutch break-in video HERE. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Given the shift to cable clutches by Harley, we can still optimize the setup. Harley incorporates a plastic adjuster along the cable line, essentially an automatic adjuster. However, this system lacks the flexibility for riders to fine-tune play or engagement preferences. Fortunately, I've discovered a solution in the form of the Fat Baggers EZ Clutch Adjustor Upgrade. This aftermarket product replaces the stock plastic adjuster with a more durable metal counterpart, enabling precise external adjustments for clutch lever positioning. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Recently, I launched an in-depth tutorial video focusing on  the Harley Infotainment Control Unit "IFCU" Digital Dash system. This cutting-edge technology is now a standard feature on select 2024 models and will continue to be integrated into future touring models. Throughout the creation process of this tutorial, I dedicated extensive time both in the workshop and on the road, immersing myself in every aspect of the IFCU. Despite the absence of accompanying instructions or information, I meticulously explored its functionalities, uncovering both its advantages and limitations. For bikers eager to master the IFCU and harness its full potential, I've crafted a comprehensive tutorial video. You can access it conveniently at LawAbidingBiker.com/IFCU or LawAbidingBiker.com/HarleyDigitalDash.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The clarity and size of the screen, coupled with features like the high contrast mode for sunny conditions, further enhance usability. In my opinion, it stands as the most responsive auto manufacturer digital dash system I've encountered thus far, though not without its minor flaws, which I'll address shortly. Before delving into those nuances, it's crucial to note the subscription fee required for embedded navigation: $349 for 3 years, inclusive of live weather, traffic, and map updates. While some may balk at this additional cost, it's essential to contextualize it against the previous Boom Box, where map updates incurred fees ranging from $150 to $200 each time, without the added benefits of live weather and traffic. Whether the subscription model proves more favorable remains a matter for debate. And for those considering whether to opt for embedded navigation, be aware that without it, you'll encounter a QR code prompting you to purchase it each time you access navigation on the IFCU. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The most pressing question on many minds, one that I'm unable to fully address at this juncture, is how the IFCU will fare in the long run—say, 5 or even 10 years down the road. After all, my previous Harley Street Glide Special served me faithfully for a decade before I upgraded to my 2024 model. Concerns naturally arise regarding the long-term support Harley will provide for the Harley infotainment control unit. Will the system gradually slow down and experience lag over time? And if so, how will such issues be addressed by customer support? Additionally, the longevity of support from the third-party company responsible for developing the Skyline OS operating system is another pertinent consideration. Items mentioned in the podcast: Fat Baggers EZ Clutch Adjuster Kuryakyn Extended Brake Pedal Ultimately, only time will provide the answers we seek. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and Patreon member Bob Dawson.  Bob has a 2021 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special.  Unfortunately, Bob's bike experienced oil sumping.  We talk about what Bob experienced as the issue presented itself, what he went through with the diagnosis of the problem, and what steps Harley went through to resolve the issue.  This is an educational but fun episode.  Grab your refreshment of choice and strap in!  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Symptoms: You may get excessive oil blowback from the crank breathers inside your air intake. You may see excessive oil splattered along the right side of your bike while riding hard or long distances. Your air filter may become saturated with engine oil. You may feel your bike has slightly less powerful as it would on a normal hot day. But eventually, the oil in the crankcase builds to the point that the crank is sloshing through the oil as it gets deeper in the crankcase. Eventually, the crankcase fills leaving massive rotational resistance. Efforts to accelerate are met with no response. The engine simply can’t rapidly change rotational speed because of the resistance. Engine failure comes from there being so much oil build up in the crankcase, that the pan is starved leaving no oil to be pumped to the top end. The engine also overheats just from all the resistance of too much oil in the crankcase. The engine begins to overheat and components such as bearings, lifters, and worse, begin to fail. The rider will never see an oil light which is quite disturbing and a significant design flaw. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Consequences: Oil sumping will result in excessive friction and power loss to your Harley M8 engine.  Excess crankcase oil is whipped into a froth of air and oil by the flywheel. This condition is called oil aeration. Aerated oil makes scavenging much more difficult and can hinder the return of oil from the rocker box area. The combination of these conditions often results in oil being forced out the head breathers, air cleaner contamination, oil leaks, loss of oil supply, lifter clatter, premature component wear, and potential engine failure. It's been a while since I purchased a new bike at a dealership and I learned a few things to share with you.  I was offered something called Theft Protection.  One of the dealerships I was working with automatically added this to my purchase.  It is a clear dab of paint they place on different parts of your bike.  The clear paint contains micro dots with numbers and the paint glows under black light.  As a law enforcement officer (LEO) I can tell you that most LEOs have no idea of this and I can't tell you if this info is in an accessible database.   Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This episode is some good old biker talk with Patreon member Anthony Peters. Anthony has been a long-time member of the Law Abiding Biker Patreon Group.  We learn about his background, how he got into riding motorcycles, what he has ridden and what he is riding now, and much more.   These podcasts are some of our favorites.  We love sitting down with our Patreon members and learning more about them.  Listener feedback tells us that they enjoy them too.   We've had the pleasure of meeting Anthony in the past, but this was our first time meeting Stacey.  She rides as well, and we learn a bit about her.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: The Road to Brotherhood: A Motorcycle Adventure   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE!
