Description

Welcome to Lax Historical Context! Sasha and Sean are two jovial nerds who decided to take their love of whiskey and history and see if anyone wanted to listen to them drink the former and talk about the latter. Each episode features them reviewing a different drink accompanying a random, usually unrelated topic that is at least vaguely historical in nature. Sometimes full of hot air, sometimes offensive, and often both at the same time, Lax Historical Context is the history podcast for people who don’t take life too seriously.

US Presidents may get a holiday, but you know who doesn't? US Vice Presidents. Lax Historical Context is here to right that wrong, by talking about a couple of them for like 40 minutes! Sasha and Sean tell you about a couple of this country's past running mates, while drinking the Saturdays Are For The Brews from Lead Dog Brewing.
Lax Historical Context celebrates everyone's (least) favorite (made-up) holiday, Valentine's Day! Sean and Sasha talk about a couple of couples from history, while drinking a "40" of "Rosé" and those quotation marks are very deserved.
Lax Historical Context isn't leaving you hanging! Sasha and Sean are back to talk about Filibusters, except this time, it's the kind you did know about. Accompanying their discussion is the sour ale Love Child No. 10 from Boulevard Brewing Co.
Lax Historical Context talks about the old time filibusters, with the meaning you didn't know about! As Sasha and Sean tell you about these fight-loving bastards, they drink the Fight Milk white stout from 10 Torr Distilling and Brewing.
Lax Historical Context does another film review! This time, Sean and Sasha discuss the 2000 film The Patriot. To help the conversation along, they drink FiftyFifty Brewing's 2018 Peach Brandy Eclipse Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout.
On this newest episode of Lax Historical Context, Sash and Sean discuss some people from history employed for violence, good or bad. While discussing, they drink the Myrcenary Double IPA from Odell Brewing Company.
Episode 70 - Diets

Episode 70 - Diets

2020-01-1338:09

Lax Historical Context is here to help you all get off to a good start on those New Years Resolution diets. Sean and Sasha talk about a couple of weird diets from history. Sasha makes Sean take a blind taste test for two (awful) beers.
Lax Historical Context welcomes the new year and the new decade by finishing what they started! Sasha and Sean finish the two-parter by talking about 1920. To get into the spirit of the 20s, they drink the Gin and Tonic Fling Craft Cocktail from Boulevard Brewing Co.
Episode 68 - 1919

Episode 68 - 1919

2020-01-0136:49

Lax Historical Context says goodbye to 2019 by talking about 1919! Sasha and Sean conduct the first of two episodes focused on welcoming the new decade! To send out this decade, they drink Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey.
Lax Historical Context gets all festive! Sasha and Sean talk about a couple of Christmas happenings from the past, while they drink a special cocktail surprise provided by Sasha.
Episode 66 - Saints

Episode 66 - Saints

2019-12-1543:24

Look at Lax Historical Context, getting all holier than though! Not really, but Sean and Sasha are talking about a couple of saints. While telling you about them, they drink the Daily Wages from Brasserie Saint James.
Lax Historical Context marks the anniversary of a day that will live in infamy, by discussing a film that did a terrible job at honoring it. Sean and Sasha discuss the 2001 Michael Bay film Pearl Harbor, while drinking Asahi Super Dry, from Asahi Breweries in Japan.
Lax Historical Context is a couple of days late for dinner! To celebrate Thanksgiving, Sean and Sasha discuss the history of Thanksgiving and Black Friday, which now starts on Thursdays, apparently. Their discussion is accompanied by Blue Moon's Harvest Pumpkin Wheat.
Originally a "Meanwhile in Japan" episode, Lax Historical Context instead talks about disasters that happened in 1923 (one of which happened to Japan!). Sasha and Sean also have some fun with a brief 1923 quiz because a lot of stuff apparently happened that year. This episode is accompanied by Seismic Brewing's Shatter Cone IPA.
Lax Historical Context doesn't get topical, at all, they totally swear. Not inspired by current events at all, Sasha and Sean discuss a couple of past presidential scandals. Their conversation is accompanied by The Local Lager from Lead Dog Brewing Co.
Lax Historical Context takes a special trip to the city of brotherly love! Not really, but they are talking about brothers. Specifically, a couple of brothers whose siblings were way more famous than them. Despite neither subject being a twin, Sean and Sasha drink the I Always Felt Closer to IPAs than I Did to People IPA from Evil Twin Brewing.
Lax Historical Context finally finally keeps a promise and focuses on Japan. Kind of. Sean and Sasha talk about a couple of things that went on with Japan during World War II. While discussing, they drink the West Coast Haze made by FiftyFifty Brewing.
At some point (most likely September 1st), Lax Historical Context celebrated one year of podcasting. We realized this because this is now the second Nevada Day episode we've done, so...yay! Right? Anyway, Sasha and Sean talk some more Nevada on account of the special day that isn't Halloween. To celebrate, they drink Nevada Strong, a Belgian strong dark ale aged in brandy barrels and made jointly by Great Basin Brewing in Sparks, NV and Big Dog's Brewing in Las Vegas.
Sasha and Sean put terrible leaders from yesteryear in the spotlight with an episode focusing on the awful things they did. In honor of people who resist awful leaders, they drink The Dissident, the one with marionberries, from Deschutes Brewery.
The folks at Lax Historical Context couldn't figure out a decent title for this one, so here you go. This week's episode sees Sean and Sasha talk about some people who were leaders or who aspired to be leaders and terrible things that that they did or narrowly avoided. You know, how some real world leaders actually endure difficult things? Yeah, like that. But only sort of. Listen to them drink Saugatuck Brewing's Neapolitan Milk Stout as they struggle to connect these two events.
