Description

Tarot has been a 30-year journey for me. I first learned to read tarot in a two-and-a-half-day course, and I was hooked! I loved having my cards read and wanted to demystify the process so I could read for myself and others.

At first, learning tarot felt like a memorization game—understanding the meanings of each card and how they fit into a spread. It took years to weave them into a story and even longer to trust my intuition (which, honestly, I still struggle with!).

In my professional life, I’m an instructional designer, course writer, and digital content creator. So, naturally, I wanted to create a structured way to share how I learned tarot—by focusing on the foundations, especially card symbolism. That’s why I created this bite-sized tarot learning podcast. Each episode is around 3 minutes long, designed to help beginners learn and memorize tarot cards efficiently. Okay… I’m not THAT precise—some episodes are closer to 2.5 or 3.5 minutes, with special episodes running longer!

What You’ll Get from This Podcast:
  • A practical, no-fluff way to learn tarot – focused on symbolism, numerology, and core meanings.
  • A structured approach – designed for left-brained learners who prefer clear explanations before tapping into intuition.
  • Designed for all learning styles – If you’re a visual learner, I recommend looking up the Rider-Waite card images on your phone or using a physical deck while listening.
  • Beginner-friendly but valuable for experienced readers – Even if you know the basics, this podcast can help reinforce key lessons.
I love the woo-woo side of tarot, astrology, and numerology, but I also know that too much mysticism at the start can make learning tarot overwhelming. This podcast keeps things clear and structured, so you can build a strong foundation before diving deeper into intuition and spiritual exploration.

I hope you enjoy learning tarot as much as I do!

Happy Reading!
~ Carrie

I use the Rider Wait Tarot if you listen and watch episodes with your own deck. Today, we're dissecting the Ace of Wands. We will start with a simple breakdown of the suit and number. The second part will dig into more symbolism to help you look at this card and tell a story.First, lets start with the suit and number. The suit of wands represents fire and passion within us. So, more "feeling things" rather than "thinking things."Creativity, ideas, action, hope, potential, and motivation are examples. These all come from fire and passion within us. The number one, or Aces, represents the start of something new or a first step. Putting it together, the Ace of Wands can suggest a new idea, a new feeling, taking a first step, a new beginning, a new sense of hope, or motivation to start a new project. Next, let's take the symbolism a step further to help you memorize the meaning of this card when you see it. The sprouting leaves on the Ace of Wands can symbolize the new growth and potential of this new beginning. The hand emerging from the cloud holding the wand can represent grabbing hold of this new beginning and taking action. The landscape in the card's background shows a rugged surface and mountains in the distance, implying a journey with ups and downs that may take some endurance. Next, lets cover the astrology associated with this card. The Ace of Wands represents the sign of Aries. The Aries traits connected with this card are ambition, action, and their pioneering spirit. Now that we have covered the basics, symbolism and even a bit of astrology, how do we apply this knowledge to a reading? Well, looking solely at this card, you would take the meaning and apply it to the meaning of the position in the spread. For example, in the past position, you can say that the current situation is influenced by a new journey that you started in the past that is now getting traction. Here's another example. In the opportunities position, an Ace of Wands may suggest that it's time to jump into something new that you are more passionate about. So how did I memorize the Ace of Wands? Truly, instead of memorizing the card, I memorized the symbols and kept practicing. For the Ace of Wands, instead of memorizing the cards, I memorized the meaning of the number one, which is new beginnings. There are five number ones in the deck. Knowing what one means helps me remember a key piece of five different cards. I memorized that wands are feeling things, like your fire and passion. This is a key trait of fourteen different cards. And repetition. As you listen to these three minute lessons, you will have the consistent reminders of symbolism that apply across different cards in the deck.Thank you for listening. We will start with a simple breakdown of the suit and number. The second part will dig into more symbolism to help you look at this card and tell a story. First, let's start with the suit and number. The suit of wands represents fire and passion within us. Examples are creative projects and ideas, new hope, recognition of potential, and motivation. Wands are structured like a deck of playing cards and has cards numbered one to ten. The ace is a new beginning, and card two is the second step which represents planning and making decisions or choices. Putting it together, the Two of Wands is about planning your next step on a project you are passionate about, and making plans and decisions. Next, let's take the symbolism a step further. In the Rider Wait deck, the Two of Wands has a person with a globe in one hand and a wand in the other. The globe implies influence and opportunities. the wands are up straight and sturdy. representing solid foundation of achievements. The ground beneath the person is solid. The landscape is full of abundance. Water, land, and the mountains. The path ahead shows a journey with ups and downs that may take some endurance. The astrology associated with the Two of Wands is Aries. The Aries traits connected to this card are assertive action, a pioneering spirit, and there may be some impatience. Now that we have covered the basics, symbolism, and even a bit of astrology, how do we apply this card to a reading? Looking solely at this card, you would take its meaning and apply it to the meaning of the position in the spread. For example, in the past position, you can explain that in the past, the person changed directions, started something new they are excited about, and are making plans and decisions around how to move it ahead. How did I memorize the Two of Wands? Instead of memorizing the card itself, I memorized the symbols, numbers and suits and kept practicing. For the Two of Wands, I memorized that all the number two cards are the second step in the journey, which is planning and decisions. Knowing what the two means helps me interpret a piece of five different cards. I memorized that wands are journeys around things that come from passion and fire, not logic. This is a trait of all fourteen wands cards. Wands is a situation that involves creativity, excitement, and bold action. And repetition. In today's special recap episode, I wanted to stop and take a moment to focus on the first half of the journey for the suit of wands, from the ace to the five. This will help create the story of the journey itself, since we have focused on each individual card so far. Let's reflect on a quick recap of the lessons learned and prepare for the road ahead. On the journey, maybe the querent is starting a business or deciding to go back to school. Maybe they are inspired by their favorite music artists and now want to learn to sing or play the guitar. This bold action can be towards anything that lights a fire in their belly that they are motivated to pursue. We began the journey with the ace of wands. Wands are things we are passionate about, not a path of logic, but one of excitement that is fiery and alive within us. The ace is the first step. An idea, a new start. It represents the moment a decision is made to pursue something, and the fire and excitement are building. They say to themselves, "That's it. I'm doing it." Next step is the two of wands, where we are making our plans. We are thinking about the future with this idea coming to fruition. We are making choices about what direction to go to bring this new idea into the world. We are thinking about our next steps. Are we filling out the application for school? Are we doing research on the best guitar to buy or where to take lessons? Are we doing research online on how to be a business owner? Next step is the three of wands.  They are making progress and are taking action on their plans. They are seeing some success and may even be considering expansion. At this stage, they have started school and are taking classes with good grades. They bought a guitar and are taking lessons and are getting positive feedback. Or, their business activities are underway and they are making sales. In all cases, they are in action and are thinking about what else they can do to expand where they are. Next, the four of wands. This stage represents structure, order, and stability. It is associated with the strong foundations and achieving a sense of security. At this stage of the journey, they have reached milestones in school or they are achieving popularity as a musician. The business owner has a steady income that they can rely on to support themselves and to pay their employees. Next, the five of wands throws us a challenge. We are in a rough patch and need to solution it. Maybe it's with our mindset, or maybe something we need to resolve. Maybe our marks weren't what we hoped on a test at school. Our self-doubt has creeped into our mind about performing with our new guitar. Maybe a new business has showed up on the scene with great competing products at a better price. It reminded us that through struggle comes strength and that every conflict is a chance to learn, adapt, and emerge stronger. In summary, the journey from the ace to the challenge of the five, the first half of the journey lays the foundation for personal development, creativity, and sometimes conflict. As they venture forward, they learn lessons, show resilience, make choices, celebrate wins, and overcome challenges. Thank you for listening. As we move towards the next cards, keep in mind the story that's unfolding is one of personal growth and the fiery spirit of ambition.#memorize #suitofwands #learn #learning #Tarot #cards #riderwaite #Tarotdeck #riderTarotdeck #riderwaite #swords #minorarcana #learnTarot #learnTarotcards #learnTarotreading #learnTarotpodcast #memorizeTarot #audiocourse #audio #podcast
