Social media ushered in an era of easy, deep, and free connection with people all over the world, but it also delivered emotional dependency and addiction for many. AI is at an early crossroads, and the stakes are just as high, if not higher, for some. In this episode, I explore how OpenAI is trying to avoid repeating social media's mistakes with ChatGPT. After observing concerning patterns, including users developing unhealthy attachments, and students using AI as an "answer machine," OpenAI just announced significant changes to prioritize well-being over engagement. I'll share why this moment matters for legal and business professionals, as well as teachers, parents, and other leaders. I'll cover: * The sobering statistics about AI dependency, including why 2/3 of Gen Z males are open to AI relationships * OpenAI's recent changes that are meant to combat unhealthy use * What Dr. Luiza Jarovsky says about this mental health bomb waiting to explode * Why Passle's CEO James Barclay warns us not to "fall in love with your robot" * How legal professionals can use AI as a tool without letting it replace your expertise This is not about avoiding AI. It is about learning from our digital past to build a healthier future. 🎧 Please listen for an honest, discerning perspective about technology, human behavior, and what progress might look like. AI just took a major step forward, and lawyers need to be paying attention. In this episode, I break down the launch of new AI browsers from ChatGPT and Perplexity. These tools are designed to act on your behalf, reading files, scanning emails, analyzing data, and even taking action while running quietly in the background. If that sounds efficient, it also raises serious red flags for anyone who handles sensitive or confidential information. I'll cover: • What agentic AI browsers really do • Why this technology goes beyond typical search • What OpenAI's Sam Altman is saying about the risks • How ABA Model Rule 1.6 applies here • What actions firms should take right now to protect confidentiality This is not about avoiding new technology. It is about using it wisely and protecting your clients in the process. 🎧 Listen in for a clear, practical overview of what's changing, what's at stake, and what you can do next. What is ambient AI, and why does it matter to lawyers, law firms, and legal marketing and business development professionals? In this episode of Legal Marketing Minutes, I define ambient AI in clear terms and explain how it's quietly showing up in tools professionals already use. You'll hear a real-world example from another profession that illustrates the potential for this technology, and I'll walk you through what this shift means for your work in legal. We'll also discuss OpenAI's collaboration with renowned iPhone designer Jony Ive, what he and Sam Altman are building behind the scenes, and how it could impact the way we interact with AI in the future. Topics covered include what ambient AI is, where it's showing up in the legal profession, why it matters, and what ethical questions and compliance considerations law firms need to keep in mind. Ambient AI isn't just coming. It's already here. The question is whether your firm is ready. If you are in a place where you can leave a comment, please do so, as I would love to hear from you. Women and Artificial Intelligence Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a day with approximately 150 to 200 wonderfully smart people who care very much about leading, teaching, supporting, and being a part of the important conversations that are and will be taking place around artificial intelligence. Professor Cat Moon of Vanderbilt Law School recently organized the Women+AI Summit in Nashville at the law school for the purpose of helping attendees learn, network, and secure a seat at the AI table, which many publications think is starting out as a male-dominated career. A common theme I hear from many is that they think that before they spend so much of their time experimenting with AI, Generative AI, the creation of chatbots, or any other task they've heard about when it comes to artificial intelligence, they need to know exactly why they are using it and what specifically it is going to be doing for them. I'm not so sure about that. In fact, I disagree. Let's discuss. If you are in a place where you can leave a comment, please do so as I would love to hear from you. The decision about whether to list clients on your website or other promotional materials, or to ask for testimonials for use in promotional materials, is a very interesting discussion. We discussed this earlier on Ari Kaplan's Virtual Lunch. If you don't know Ari, you should. If you haven't attended the Virtual Lunch, you might find it as interesting as I do. Let's talk about this because we're looking at two different things: listing client names publicly on one's website or other promotional places, or requesting and using testimonials from clients. There are different nuances to them. Let's discuss. This episode is sponsored by LinkedIn Course For Lawyers with Nancy Myrland. For more information, please visit linkedincourseforlawyers.com.
